  It may be "unique" in the sense it will be the only one like it, but it's also a derivative work and may not be published without the permission of the original copyright holder. A copyright holder has the copyright to derivative images unless he sells or gives his rights away.

Paid or donated, aren't all images potentially infringing if someone uploaded copyrighted images?
Does paying for it defray some of the risk?
