Are aged domains worthless ?

Hi

Are aged domains of any value any more?

I have a friend who wants to sell a 10-year old domain

he says he paid $4600 for it 6 years ago, and now wants to sell it for $260

i've looked on the wayback machine, and it looks like it started out as a forum back in 2007, but then was just redirected to the owners main site

i know it's a niche specific domain, but i was just wondering if his price was too low for a 10 year old niche-specific domain, or too high ?????

thanks

.

I'm not sure how the age of the domain has any relevance for this particular name. Does it have a lot of backlinks? Does it still rank in the search enignes?

He may have bought it when it had some backlink juice, but it doesn't have any now. In any case, the name has no particular exact match domain name allure. Just a couple of words strung together. And those names are a dime a dozen.

Its worthless. It has no branding value, it has no link strength and as far as Google is concerned it has no age (Google goes off the age of it being indexed in their search engine NOT the year it was registered- it is not presently indexed AT ALL).

If you like the name its worth $9.00 registration fee

    $10 is vastly overpaying.

if you don''t like the name 50 cents is too much.

Tell your friend just because he bought a car for $5000 doesn't mean its worth $10 after its sat for years, no longer runs and is rusted up.

The car's metal would have some value but a domain with none of the above things going for it isn't even worth a belch.

The answer to this question is always ...

A domain is worth exactly what you can sell it for.
