Who is my audience for my youtube channel?

Humor can be used as a delivery vehicle for almost anything. I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with you using a comedic persona while educating about frugality. I actually think it would work well. But you'd definitely have to maintain focus on the fact that your mission is to teach frugal living or financial lessons or whatever it is you're teaching, and that comedy is a tool to get those messages across when appropriate, and that just being funny for funny's sake isn't the goal of your videos.

If you can sell deodorant with funny you can definitely teach lessons on frugality with it.

Thanks for the reply. My issue is, sometimes I go so far in my comedy so that my information turns somewhat into a spoof. I'm worrued I may confuse viewers

Hey, cool, you coined a new and useful word. It's when you rue worrying about something!

As for your concern, humor is a great vehicle. On the occasions when you think you may have carried it a bit too far, a couple options come to mind:

1) You can edit the video.

2) You can add a "but seriously folks" moment at the end of the video. (e.g. But seriously folks, this tip really can save you X of dollars if you put it to use.)

I use humor in my tutorials. It worked so well I had a publisher ask me to write a book for them, and another company asked me to write a newsletter for them.

You might, but I don't know of a single person who WANTS to be frugal, they get there from necessity. I'm sure there are a few people who embrace the frugal lifestyle, but not much of an audience.

Use your humor to relate and address this, maybe they became frugal by spending their money on WSOs, or invested in Bernie Madoff.

No one can tell you what to do, but if you are funny, then you might find a bigger audience for your humor than for your tips.

Tell them how you HAD to become frugal, put the tips in your routine.

Good luck, but you need to get a good handle on what YOU want to do, asking this place "What should I do?" is an indication you don't know what you want.

Comedy mixed with education is not a bad thing. I would a call this Infotainment. Where you are both entertaining and educating at the same thing. I think it's a great idea!

What's the one common characteristic of those who seriously adopt a frugal lifestyle?

They do lots of things to avoid spending money. I've seen suggestions to wash out plastic food bags and re-use them. Saw a feature story about a woman who saved the end caps from frozen OJ cans to make her kid's Halloween costume. Then there's the whole extreme couponing thing, where people structure their whole lives around accumulating mass quantities of stuff they'll end up throwing out when it goes bad.

Lots of fodder for humor/comedy here.

I wouldn't worry too much about the seriously frugal - they won't spend money with you anyway.

That's a good point. I think all-in-all the comedy element would carry me further, and I can always use frugal titling (such as "learn any language free") to draw the audience.

Shoot, I got this negative comment on my video

duolingo, memrise, belinguapp, tandem. You're welcome. This man is so over-the-top that the video is unwatchable.

I was worried I'd run into this problem. My passion is more in comedy and spoofing, and it seems people in the frugal segment may not appreciate the added comedy fluff.

If you are basing any thought what so ever to change what it is you are doing based on ONE comment... dude you will end up so confused its not even funny. Think of it this way.. if say you have 100 views and 10 comments say this kind of thing, THEN and only THEN might I pay attention.... but ONE single comment... you cant make everyone happy

The good news is that you got a reaction. Take it from people like Rush Limbaugh - one man's "so over the top it's unwatchable" is another man's treasure.

The worst place you can be is in the vanilla middle when you don't get any reaction at all, good or bad.

Vibe with R's take, you can appeal to the frugal crowd, but use a humorous angle. I do it with blogging, and travel. I sometimes inject humorous travel stories into my posts to teach people how to blog. The niche is always blogging tips, but the vehicle or delivery is through humor, and travel, and more than that, the art of story telling to help folks learn blogging. Carry on with frugal, covering that niche, and keep the humor flowing. Just make sure that you offer real frugal tips versus simply yucking it up. Or if you want to yuck it up, ya gotta make the choice to rebrand yourself, start a new site and to move into a different direction, the comedy niche.

You know, I think you have a really good point here. In fact I'm aware that I'm more interested in yucking it up than providing solid info/research.

It gives me an idea though: there is a website that allows people to buy amazon products at a big discount because they are no name (probably junk) products. Maybe i can just review those and make fun of them/put them through extreme testing, etc.

Comedy and frugal are 2 different audiences.

Yes you can talk about frugal stuff while being funny.

Most people want to be entertained and tend to watch more longer than trying to watch serious stuff.
