Haven't been around for 5 years, what did I miss?

After, 5 years of losing money trying to make money in other ways on the internet, I'm back to lose some money on internet marketing again. What were the best hits from the last few years?

Thanks.

From what I can see on here, people seem to be trying to make money selling guides on how to make money. It makes no sense, and thus that's why they aren't making money.

Well with that attitude you surely will continue to lose.

Do you understand the basics of marketing (love how I put instructions in front of people and get crickets...I'd have KILLED for something like this when I started; it's like I'm talking a foreign language no matter how much I simplify the concepts)? Have you identified a target market who admit to having a serious problem? Do you have a solution for that serious problem to sell them?

This really isn't difficult. But most of you give up after three days of effort (be honest with yourself, and hate me all you want for pointing it out) on the shiny object train.

Get leads. Qualify them. Show the qualified leads your offer. It's not "rocket surgery," as a friend of mine likes to say.

Haha. Don't you just hate it when you give people the information they need to be successful, then that information just bounces off their foreheads? LOL

OP: Here is the reality. The principles that work in offline business also work online.

Everything we do is direct marketing, and you need to get people to your offer and convert them to buying what you are selling. Everything else is just words.

Sounds nice, but not detailed enough for you?

Find an audience of people and find out what they need, then sell it to them. Everyone making good money online is doing this. Find an audience and sell them what they want. When they start converting, get more traffic.

Sorry that the answer isn't prettier for you.

If you want to find out what is selling, then go study facebook ads, if you see ads that run over and over for long periods of time, then they are most likely making money, however, you need skill on setting up FB ads. The most important thing to remember is that pay processors do not support "drop shipping" Do not let the "shopify" thing fool you as they will convince you that you can do it, however, if a pay processor catches you using drop shipping, then they can ban your account, then game over, and this also includes paypal in order to get around this, then you need to buy the product, then ship your own product, and by the time you do all this trying to sell that junk from china, then there is virtually no profit left. SEO/content marketing is out of the question as it takes forever to see any real results, and there is no guarantee, period.

trying to make money online can be a bitch, it can be very difficult to get people to buy, and if they do not trust you because your site looks like crap, or you have a bad niche/product, then you will not make anything. There are tons of steps you have to go there, niche research, finding that product that will sell like hotcakes, then coming up with 100s of FB test ads so you can find that 1-2 winners in the bunch, then repeat. This is where a good FB guru comes in that can set all this stuff for you; however, it is always best that you learn FB ads on your own through trial and error....

If you do not have your own product, then do some research, and find a product on clickbank that is doing good, then test some FB ads...

at the end of the day, it is not that simple to make money,
and you can lose money just as fast, then you just end
up hoping around from one project to the next, and
continue to complain how you never make any money...

people are so desperate to make money that they never
stay on any one thing for very long, then they are off
to something else, and they continue to lose money,
and they do not know how to quit when they should have
given up long ago. The universe is not setup so that
everyone will make money, and most will never make
money no matter how much they try...

Thanks for the long honest reply, I can feel that Facebook has caused you much pain. I hope you figure it out. I think I have had a similar experience with a different method, I thought that I could make money trading forex, but now I think that the people making the most money in forex are the people selling the systems. I guess it is still possible to make money trading, but maybe it is beyond me. It took me a while to realize that even if others could make money trading forex, maybe I could not make money in forex. I eventually learned how to build my own trading robots, unfortunately, they are still unprofitable, but one day, when they are I will have a product for a WSO.

I wasted 2 years of my life trading forex at a time when banks were manipulating rates.
Volatility is the enemy of the small trader.
I think news trading is a possibility but you need a reliable broker for that.
What we need is a mentor I think. But not the big guns.

Some of you are taking the OP too seriously. I think the whole "ready to lose some more money" thing was a tongue-in-cheek try for humor. At least, that's how I took it.

512jay, you really haven't missed much in that department. The cover bands change, but the song stays the same.

    > Someone figures out a way to make money (dropshipping, tee shirts, whatever).

    > Turns the method into an expensive course and does a webinar.

    > Audience either buys the course or comes here trying to get the same info for free.

    > They make a half-assed attempt to exactly duplicate the original, then complain that the market is "saturated".

    > Someone figures out a way to make money (dropshipping, tee shirts, whatever)....

And the wheels on the bus go round and round...

I wondered what happened to PIPS a few years ago....amazing it went as long as it did. I think longevity was due to Patricia and her involvement with members.

Did PIPs close or move elsewhere?

I think they tried to modularize it so when offer failed or stopped paying out they would plug in a new system to take the place of the old. This seemed good in theory, but if you only make like thirteen bucks after a year (my case) the hassle of it all just does not seem worth it. I let my domain expire and did not go back to check into any of the systems that I used to run. Probably got a couple of bucks out there behind some defunct website at the moment. Sure wish I had brought some BitCoin back then.

I know the guy behind it did get sued by the FTC, and I think it was related to PIPS, but I am not certain that is what got him in trouble.

  • Hi Jay,

I too was out of IM for several years from late 2009 until early 2015 due to family and health issues. When I first returned, I too knowing how fast things progress online felt I had a lot of catching up to do, when in reality some things have changed mostly effective delivery mediums.

However, Internet Marketing is still just marketing:
    1. Find a group of people who have a problem.
    2. Solve their problem, hopefully in a manner that is either easier or quicker than any solution they have available to them at this time.
    3. Present your solution to them.
    4. All the while building an email list! (This is the single most important aspect of creating a real online business!)

So you see it's still the same game, as I stated above the content delivery methods have changed most with the advancement of technology:
    1. Video Marketing is becoming the standard.
    2. Your websites and delivery methods need to be otimized for the mobile users.
    3. Webinars are becoming more and more prevalent.

This is by far not a complete list, but it covers the most pertinent one IMHO.
The tools to utilize the above mentioned content delivery options have become much better , easier to use and more economical.

    Good Luck,
    Matt

      Kay, it's not just you.

Like when I see references to the "post below" which is actually above in the classic view.

It's also sometimes hard to follow who is talking to who.

Well the people who are losing money is still greater than those who are making money. Why is that? There are a lot of factors as to why they don't earn, one thing here is attitude. You will have to strengthen your resolve to do what it takes to learn the trade. Also you might have very little knowledge about how things work or you might be missing something. Take this time as an opportunity to try again but this time you are fully equipped and ready.

I'm also back after many years lay off.
      Regarding the above comments,
This of course is what the premise was when I went into Forex trading. Study, learn, persevere, follow the winning formula. Find a mentor.
I did and he turned out to be a mega mega fraudster who had a viable and highly plausible system up to a point.
Fortunately, I hadn't invested money in him, just his newsletter which..... Wait for it.... He used to BUILD A LIST...
      Of people to defraud!
TWO YEARS OF MY LIFE I spent with Forex.
Show me a person making money out of forex and I'll show you someone selling a system or tuition of some sort.

A lot have changed since the past 5 years, for one the Affiliate Marketing space
has become very competitive. Websites and videos are getting harder and harder to rank
on Google and Youtube. Ecommerce and Crytocurrencies are now the hot items.

Like you, I haven't been on here much, having "lost" a lot of money on some awful and woeful WSO's in the past, I stopped buying ANY of them, I learnt that the products from some "so called" IM Guru's are just shiiiite!

One thing you have missed is spending money on these "products" that just get put out to pasture! I would see that as a positive. (It's not all negative! ;-) )

Oh, the mobile app trend, forget it, Apple have just killed the mobile drag and drop market and it looks like the industry is moving to progressive web apps!

I'm going to do the good old "rehash some old shit" sorrrrrryyyyyy, so negative, I should've said, "Find an innovative approach to tried and tested techniques to make them more streamlined and profitable"

    Just my ten pence/cents worth!

Not much has changed as far as the making money is concerned. A lot of different ways to make money and a lot more ways to lose money. I'd say 98% of the people that try are on the losing end. Good to have you back, hope you do better this time around.
