What are the essential skills for the start?

In my opinion, the most important skills are learning to drive traffic and build responsive mailing lists...generate cost-effective leads. Everything else you can optimize and improve as you go.

Those who succeed in business are self-starters. Without that internal motivation, even the best products and advice will be ineffective.

And if you want to succeed in marketing, become a student of people. Make it your mission to understand your intended market's motives, desires, fears and concerns.

All the rest is detail.

There are a lot of things you will need to learn as a "newbie". Here's is what I recommend:

1. Have crystal clear written goals (30, 60, 90 & 1 year)
2. Be positioned for success: Have a the right product and system to promote that product that pays good to high commissions (higher ticket items will require less sales)
3. Be in the right environment: be surrounded by positive people that will encourage you
4. Take massive action: especially when just starting out, you will need to work very hard to gain momentum and keep it going
5. 30/30/30 Challenge; Avoid all news, newspapers, magazines etc, read a positive book for 30 minutes a day, listen to 30 minutes of a positive audio a day, do this every day for 30 days. If you miss a day you must start over.
6. Attend industry events: meet other people in your niche, network, mastermind and learn from others
7. Forget about the money: focus on creating value and helping others, the money will follow.

One other item I would highly recommend is to find a mentor in your niche and model what they do.

I think, Try to learn a lot from the front man. Go to google learn everything only

In order to find success in Internet Marketing or Affiliate Marketing to be precise, you need
1. A great product with huge demand.
2. You should pick a niche that's everlasting.
3. Recurring earning systems that appear in your bank account every month without putting in an extra effort.
4. You need a professional Sales funnel to convert leads into sales.
5. You need a perfect offer for that particular product so that people buy from you.
If you can find something that fits that criteria then you will be successful.
If you are struggling to find an offer like that then keep on following this forum and you will find something or better you wait for my post on how I made a ton of money in one month promoting a single product.

It depends on the type of the business you want to start. First, start your business and then you learn what is needed.

For my training, I follow authority websites and I have joined some training programs before to learn specific skills.

This form is a super helpful resource for learning the right skills.

But more than that, picking 1 niche, sticking to it, developing your creating and connecting skills, and following 1-2 mentors in your niche will put you on the straight and narrow.

Also, not doing the online bit mainly for money, but to have fun, to help folks and to patiently build something bigger than yourself. Then the money flows in over the long haul.

It's important to know how things work fundamentally or behind the scenes and always do your own research instead of believing 100% what you read. And keep learning from other people's mistakes.

What's the thing with the guys who have written only a few posts on WF and giving me the advice now!!!

I certainly appreciate every single pointer, but why bother saying something when you are inexperienced in this like me? I mean someone is new on this platform and suddenly giving the advice like he is 20 years in this. Makes no sense.

I was trying to reach for all of you who have been in my shoes and made it. Trying to learn something from those type of guys. Not you newbies.

The essential skills necessary are:

- The ability to wait for success (years)
- The ability to NOT re-create the wheel
- The ability to follow directions
- A good niche selection
- A good backend marketing campaign
- Good math
- An understanding of how to get rich with backend marketing
- A membership, continuity program, coaching, seminar, etc (high income models)

Simple.

For me, the number one is market research.

It will make traffic and conversion way easier. Why? Because you'll know what your market struggles with. This way, you will know EXACTLY what to say in your ads, sales letters, emails and any other kind of media

Plus, it will cure creators (not just writers) block forever. Can't come up with an idea for your email...podcast...or video? See what your market is struggling with and voila, here's your idea.

Money and/or time to invest. Humility and a willingness to learn. Reasonably comfortable taking risks. Good coaching. Patience. Determination.

Based on experience, I started in affiliate marketing with zero experience. Fast forward 10 years later, I am earning a decent income with my sites. So, starting from zero, I made this far LOL. My advise to you is, do not think too much. Just do it! You can learn almost anything online. The web is a huge database of information and all you have to do is to spend time on it, be patient, and have a strong set of mind that this is what you want to be doing, against all odds.

Build an SEO friendly website and write some awesome quality content and share it on social networking sites for first few months...if you have good skills you will surely generate traffic through search engines...you can go for paid courses but they will also teach you the same ...the more efforts you will put the more you can become an expert...!!

You have to be a passionate explorer in any sphere you need! As for marketing, first of all, you should know what are keywords and how to use them - it could be written in any "SEO for beginners" book. Then, high quality and free web-marketing course - google support for google adwords and google analytics. There you could even get free certificate

I think every start up requires a lot of patience, perseverance and hard work from a beginner. I am as a forex trader I gained proper knowledge, skills and expertise about forex market and forex trading. I have also learnt about forex market via demo trading accounts with a regulated and trusted broker. I believe without proper guidance and a great command over the business, any business can't survive in his field for a long time.

And if you can afford it get a mentor that will guide you in the right direction show you what to do and how to do it correctly as this will prevent you from making the mistakes they made when they got started. Though mistakes is good cause through mistakes you learn and become better.

Your skills should be to learn about marketing.
This includes:
Website design, writing skills, copywriting, advertising, finding your market (who wants to buy what you are selling), learning to give away free quality products, and much more.

What ever you decide to sell make sure it's a stellar product. Only the best will do. This is a tough market and junk products won't last long.

There is some great advice here, except . . .

for the statements suggesting you have to learn everything about marketing. No you don't.

I just want to add this . . .

There are dozens and dozens of different marketing models and strategies - every one of them can make you money and every one of them can totally flop for you. You don't need to know them all. Biting off too much will not service your well - you'll get overwhelmed and quit in disgust.

Just get really good at doing one thing . . . just one . . . and you can make a great amount of money online. Specialize. Optimize everything you do. Test and track and optimize. Use the best automation tools you can find. Leverage your own work so your results are multiplied. Set up a system that is profitable and stick with it. Eventually, you'll be able to get others to run your system for you such that you can pay them and still pay yourself as well.

The people in this business that make a lot of money have great focus - they specialize, they have systems of optimized selling in place, and they understand how to do one thing very profitably - then they do it over, and over, and over again.
