I have been running my business for the past 3 years and all my business leads have come via word of mouth or from contacts that I meet on courses.
My problems is that I have been to these local courses several times now and I am asked politely not to attend again.
I provide digital marketing services to SME's in rural Ireland. The problem with that is they either think they can do it themselves or don't believe it works. I have tried the following to drum up more business:
  • Direct mail
  • Cold calling
  • Email marketing
  • Facebook ads
  • Forums
But I can't get a steady flow of enquiries because once I get in front of them I am able to convert. So my question is, is anyone else in the same position and does anyone have any ideas to generate more leads?

It seems that you're having trouble converting your leads, right?

Because honestly, you can find all the leads you'll ever need from the following platforms:

    1. Facebook
    2. Google AdWords
    3. Bing Ads
    4. Solo Ads (if you're in a very mainstream niche).
So, at this point, I must operate under the assumption that your offer simply isn't converting.

If that's the case, I must ask myself... Why is it not converting?

One thing I love to do, is spend a ton of time brainstorming what truly frustrates and frightens my prospects.

    • Maybe they're frustrated because they're on the brink of utter failure, simply due to a lack of leads.
    • Maybe they're scared to death that they can't pay their electric bill, and their company is on the verge of epic and total failure.
    • Maybe they've been ripped off by marketers in the past who promised the world, yet delivered nothing.
    • Maybe they've tried Facebook ads, but their offers never converted.
    • Maybe they simply fear, that you cannot help them.
    • Maybe they suffer from a lack of confidence, and believe that they are actually doomed regardless of any assistance that you might offer.
Brainstorming exercises such as this, will empower you to craft brilliant lead generation campaigns that speak directly to your end user, thereby giving you a statistically higher chance of connecting with your prospects, to the point where they might just say "Yes".

    Because, as we've discussed, I don't think it's a traffic problem.

I'm wishing you the utmost best, and would humbly submit to spend time digging deep into the psychology of your end user demographic. Only then shall you better endeavor to create a lead generation campaign that speaks directly to the frustrations and needs of your ideal user.

    Wishing you the best.

The problem with that is they either think they can do it themselves or don't believe it works.

Big-time mental blocks / limiting beliefs here.

For you to work strategies to allow in clients who dig your services, get rid of these limiting beliefs.

The only reason you keep coming across these folks is because they are mirroring your deep client and business related fears to you.

All that strategies are viable; but the energy of the person using those approaches has to be coming from a place of abundance and fun, versus from an energy of scarcity and fear.

Clear the fear, then you will find those clients, along virtually any lines where you offer value and build connections.

Guest posting could be one such channel, in addition to the above mentioned, but ya gotta do the energy work first.

There are those who believe it does not work, and they are no concern of yours.

There are those who believe it works, but they want to do it themselves. They do not concern you, either.

There are those who know it works and who don't want to do it themselves. These are the ones you're after.

Your problem is positioning and understanding who to go after.

Seems like you are limiting yourself geographically and in terms of the businesses you go after.

Sort out more who you send your stuff to.

Why have you been asked NOT to attend again?

You should check out this course by Bob Serling called, "How To Market Your Way To A Million Dollar Professional Service Practice".

    • Hi Randall,
Thanks for the reply. The reason they ask me not to attend is because they feel I am poaching their potential clients. Regards the book, I'll give that a look, Regards Clive

Try to offer them free trial, if they see any effects you can be sure they will turn into paying customers. This is what I do since 2005, I am starting from free trial, then we start from something small I mean 100-200USD/mo but I have a stories when I reached in one client over 9000$/month (started from free trial). Try to get some trust first, if your services will bring the money to your customer it will surely turn into paying customer.

    • Hi npoint,
I did do that I would offer a month free social media marketing and what happened was I would do all the work setting things up so they were correct, increase their engagement and likes and then they said "thank you but no thank you" regards Clive

Take a real good look at what you're offering upfront. Try and give as much value as you can upfront for free to get them on an autoresponder and continue adding value.

Try to Create Facebook Ads by creating a custom audiences and at the same time use audience targeting by targeting Marketing Managers, CEO's and CMO's for your business. Use Facebook Pixel, by creating exact URL and retarget the audience frequently, definitely there will be chance of getting Leads.

Secondly instead of facebook, try to target the audience in LinkedIn where you can potential leads through the paltform of professionals.

Have you tried magazine advertising? I know some people say its out od date due to people using the internet, but I believe it can still work. The key if you go this route would be to create small ads that won't cost that much. One method I know of is to use a virtual phone number in order to get the entire message to people when they call it from the ad. This way you can pay minimal money to advertise while maximizing potential return. The cost of a virtual phone number is also pretty cheap. Usually about $10.00 a month.

    • Hi Pheonix, nice idea. I did try this some time ago (without the phone) but would be willing to try again, thanks Clive

Secondly,I think that you may have the wrong audience so maybe it is time to re strategize .

    Simply Social Media,

So first of all, if you are attending local courses, you probably shouldn't be marketing directly at the events. Have a conversation with people, get their contact info and follow up with them later.

Maybe you need to focus on a particular niche of local business, maybe offer a free service to them, such as setting up a social media profile for them to get people to know, like and trust you, before you pitch them on something.

    • Hi Chris, I don't pitch to them on the course. During the course I disseminate some ideas I think will help them, it is from that, that I get the enquiry. I like the idea of just setting up the profile and that is something that would/could be a quick win, regards Clive

Have you considered sending a cold email campaign?

By sending an outbound cold email campaign you can expand your reach and increase growth as well as fill your funnel.

Manually building an email list of industry-related contacts is time-consuming and not an efficient use of your team's time. Purchase an email lists to give you a head start on the lead generation process. The less time you have to spend chasing down fresh leads, the more time and resources you have available to focus on closing them.

the right question is to get leads, that of the higher caliber.

    HIGH QUALITY IS KEY!

If they are high quality they will most likely buy your stuff.

    How do you do that,

I would say YOUTUBE and SOLO ADS, [and work with a high quality vendor]

I have used this to get high quality leads and sell products from $7 all the way to $7000 USD.

Its all about being consisant and being a driver of high quality leads, traffic and or buyers

I even paid $2000 for a list or leads of affilaited buyers, which generated about $10000 in commisions, so profit of $8000 using a list of paid buyers.

That is how you do it. work SMARTER ...not HARDER!
