Is Podcasting an important part of your strategy?

Hi there

I love being here, among people with similar goals and on a similar journey.

I am a solo entrepreneur, trying to build an audience.
I am doing allright, I am getting somewhere.

My strategy is based on content marketing, providing value in order to get noticed and build a reputation and a list.

My challenge is time. I use 4-6 hrs a week to produce that content:

- blog posts, Facebook posts, videos for YT and FB, Instagram posts, even live on FB and the occasional Webinar.

My question today is:

- do you see distinct advantages in podcasting for growth/audience building purposes?

Isn't it a little last century? See, I have had a paying podcasting account, but not really time to put the effort.

Should I ask my users? Run a few tests?
Should I just quit?

Producing podcast episodes would cost time and money, without a clear return.

It wont' make me money either. It would be yet another tool in my arsenal.

I find that the other channels are more rewarding, as they create engagement and the results are more measureable.

And, unless I hire people to help me make more free content, I don't really have the time to play with that.

What's your 2c?

I personally don't use podcasts but none of my projects really warrant it. With that being said with what you are doing, it sounds like it could help reach your desisted results. Why not try a handful and see what happens?

Certain podcasts are very popular, it depends on the topic. For example Suze Orman's podcasts are very popular. Plus you have to consider how often you will create content for the podcast - respectfully for each niche that you go into. Will it be everyday, once a week, etc? How often do your listeners want to hear from you? I would test Youtube first to see if an audience in your niche exists. If it exists there, then give it a shot with podcasting and iTunes. If they dont exist on Youtube, hey... it never hurts to test.

I thought about getting into podcasting, but a lot of my time is already dedicated to writing and youtube video blogging.

There comes a point when you have to decide what are the important topics. To me, youtube is more important than podcasting.

Even promoting your site on facebook pages would probbly give better results than podcasting.

I dig my podcast for adding a personalized, human element to my campaign. Definitely a huge fan. Most importantly though, you want to have fun with doing podcasts and you will be good to go.

You have to consider it in the context of your business, target audience product and personal strengths even limitations (if video production is an issue).

Over the years I have had a very positive experience with using podcasts (as a customer) on fitness websites, marketing websites etc. Yes a Youtube video is great.. but podcasts are many times better if you want to acquire information while going about your everyday tasks and they are optimised for audio not visual so its better than just converting a vid to an mp3 for me anyway, also they are easy to make if you keep them simple. I dont expect them to be super professional or contain important interviews.. good quality audio and a confident coherent speaker is all I want.

Personally I'm a huge fan of mp3s and will use them when I can driving, running, etc. and they would play a huge role in getting me on board as a follower, subscriber, customer etc.

I don't think that it's very "last century" at all, and I think that podcasts gained more and more popularity over the last few years. They are very popular in niches like Personal Development, Business, Online Marketing etc.

I don't know if it was Gary Vee or someone else who said something like "if you don't have a podcast or a Youtube video series, you will be out of business by 2020".

I think that it mostly depends on your niche and your audience. Are they willing to listen to your podcasts more than watching Youtube videos? If your audience consists of busy adults or entrepreneurs, then yes...they are more likely to listen to a podcast while they do their own things. But if your audience consists of young people, they are more likely to watch a shorter video on Youtube, then to listen to an 1-hour podcast.

    Podcasts works if:
    a) you have valuable information to share and
    b) you're not boring to listen to

You can try testing it out to see if it generates good results. If you have A but not B, then try hiring people to do it. You're generally duplicating yourself and can save you all the effort. See if you can find someone on Onlinejobs.

No matter what business you're involved in, podcasting is essential to include in your content marketing strategies. It will help in building goodwill, earning trust, and positioning you as an authority in your industry and can set yourself apart from all the other alternatives.

When you publish your podcast on platforms such as iTunes and Stitcher, you expose your content to thousands of potential listeners for free.

Even by adding transcription services to your podcast episodes, you can easily create content for your website and blog for sharing with your peers.
