PLR software is the answer. Ask him for the PLR rights to the software. Then you could rename whatever you want, put your name on it, etc.

With standard reseller rights to the software, he's probably still selling it too - plus other people too. And he has probably implemented things in place where he makes money also on the link(s) embedded within the software.

Generally not. Typically, reseller or resale rights don't allow you to change anything. You buy a license to sell the product, not as your own (you don't own it), but simply as another seller.

When you purchase "private label" or "white label" rights, typically the license allows you to change the title or whatever else you want, call the product your own, and even split it up or "repurpose" it to something different than it was originally.

How do you proceed? Find the license that came with the software and read it carefully - it should tell you what you are allowed to do and what is prohibited. If you don't have a license (very unlikely), ask the seller to give you his terms in writing. I always make it a point to review the license terms before I purchase any license so I know if the product can be legally used for the purpose I have in mind prior to making my purchase.

One caution: often sellers will offer reseller rights when their own sales of the product turn into a trickle. It's a way to milk more profit out of a product with declining (or no) sales. So be a little cautious - the "shelf life" of technology-related products is often very short.

Randall has the right idea with PLR rights, which will enable you to put your own label on a product that you didn't create.

If you have a lot of products/software with just resell-right and not able to change anything.. then you can sell it as is using a membership-site or a marketplace-like site. So you can offer a better bargain for people, even though you sell the same product with others. This because you sell them all on your own site. So you have control on them. How many people sell the same thing exactly in Amazon? They don't care about the competition. Each one has their own trick on the same platform to gain their own buyers. So, don't worry with the competition. If you sell them all in your own site... then you just need to promote your site. Tell people that you also sell the same software/products but you have a better offer for them. Good luck!
