New To Affiliate Marketing And The Forum, Where Do I Start!? :)

Hows it going everyone,

Still learning the forum etiquette so sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong area... A little about myself, I currently run a Dropshipping business through eBay, and I want to really buckle down on Affiliate Marketing. I have opened a MaxBounty account but really just trying to learn as much as I can and soak up knowledge and energy from you pros! So that takes me to the question, Where do I start!? What would you do in if you were in my shoes? I am eager to learn and I can afford to dedicate 3-5 hours a day learning.

Thank you so much! I appreciate any help in advance!!

NEW EDIT 12/24:
Happy Holidays! So I have taken action and began studying... I have been reading MONTH ONE by Tom Addams, and this has been helping me exponentially to learn about things. I am at a decision to make right now on what type of Niche I am going to go into with my Blog Website. I have a Broad Market and I want to Segment that into a specific group of 2-4 niches. Are There any general tips on searching if you have a good niche to use? Thank you!

    Hi Lazar,

    welcome to the forum.

You probably know that Maxbounty uses CPA (cost per action) to reward affiliates such as yourself.

So what you need to do is look at offers that you think that you can successfully promote and start promoting them.

If you have a website, you can create pages for products that you want to promote, then it is just a matter of getting visitors to your pages.

In your dropshipping business on Ebay all the traffic is generated by Ebay itself and you pay to advertise on Ebay.

    This is where CPA differs.

You will need to get the traffic and visitors to your site yourself, then you make money every time someone does whatever it is you will be paid for (clicking on a link, completing a form etc).

A lot of people use Facebook to advertise, but there are plenty of ways to get traffic free and paid to your site.

Use the Search tab at the top and search for "traffic" "free traffic" and you will start to find plenty of ways to get some good traffic to your site.

I hope you make plenty from you new enterprise.

    Best Regards

While the fulfillment of the product has already been done for you, and hopefully the conversion tool (sales letter, VSL) is proven before you get there, affiliate marketing requires you to generate traffic.

Best place I know to go for traffic expertise is to get Tom Addams' Month One WSO right now. You do not want to make mistakes paying for traffic and learning at the cost of your money. You want to make that money work for you with the best chance of getting good results! And that's why I recommend spending $20 and getting expertise on your side before starting to throw big money at the traffic problem.

I would start by doing various WF searches around affiliate marketing and maxbounty. Alot of people have been down similar paths as your's, and have found the answers they have been looking for just from this forum. I suggest you do the same. Don't buy any course yet. Learn how to do research for your specific situation first.

    Lazar you are welcome,

I agree with Jason regarding traffic.

You want to get free traffic to start with.

That's why I mentioned searching the forum first as there are a ton of free ways to get free traffic.

Once you have some free visitors that are making a profit for you, you will then now how much traffic you will need to convert traffic to sales or profit and you will know how much you can afford to pay for each lead before you make a profit.

    Best Regards

Do you have an idea on what traffic sources of types of traffic you are interested in?

      ChrisBa,

Well to be completely honest with you, right now, my mind is going in 100 different directions, so I am trying to get collected. I have done FB ads, IG Ads for ecomm businesses, but I really do have any definite route I know I want to take at this moment. I am reading "Month One" PDF right now just to make sure I learn more about the IM world.

I hope that answers your question, lol.

My recommendation is to pick one method or traffic source and learn it and focus on it. Jumping around too much can be deadly.

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers for a little over 17 years.

What has worked tirelessly for me is as follows...

I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them, as they have overall worked the best. They also tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some of the verticals (niches) I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, loans, debt, credit, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

The bulk of the PPL offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I also promote offers that pay more and less. You don't want to get too caught up on what an offer pays because how well it converts is just as important. For example, if you have an offer that pays $9, but if it converts at 2X or more of a $20 offer, then it will perform about the same or possibly better. At the same time, if you have an offer that pays $90 and it converts poorly, it may not even be worth promoting.

I have also done just as good with dating website sign-ups and pretty good with free trial + S/H offers. I also promote a very limited number of offers that are straight up purchase offers. However, mass appeal needs to exist and I also look for one of the following...

    1) The product is new and/or novel-unique and you can't purchase it locally or even something similar. I don't waste my time with it once something similar shows up in Walmart.

    2) The buyer can truly get what is being offered at a decent discount.

    3) Solves a house is on fire type problem.

However, most of the above (non PPL) I will promote on the back-end. Which is why the first thing I look for is mass appeal.

Bottom line, it's far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.

    Something to think about.

      Diablo,

Seriously, Thank you for ALL that input, it was super helpful and I will make sure to use those tips!

What have you found to be the best way for a starter to gain that traffic needed? I have been given advice to do Youtube Video REviews with the affiliate link in descriptions, or creating articles on sites that have clout with google, making your own blog... I am just being pulled in so many ways.

I drive traffic quite differently than most and don't use any mainstream methods. However, IMO it is why I have been so successful.

I build responsive email lists using fresh / targeted 3rd party email data and generating real-time, co-reg leads.

3rd party data is email leads of users that have shown an interest in a specific PPL niche or offer and have given permission to receive messages from third parties. You get the opt-in record of each user and it's 100% can-spam compliant.

Co-reg is simply where I place an ad for a specific PPL offer on a co-registration network and their publishers display it at the time a user is signing up with them and can request more info about my offer. When a user requests more info their contact info is then automatically imported into my ESP account and they are sent a message regarding the offer. Which I pay on a per lead basis.

So with the above, I am getting fresh / targeted leads specifically for the PPL offers I'm promoting. However, they are not typically as responsive as a high-quality opt-in list that you build yourself. So to compensate for this you need to work with higher volume. This is not a big deal since the cost is much cheaper and highly scalable compared to traditional list building methods.

When mailing, you want to skim off the top any fast-track conversions and then for long-term success, you want to always be collecting your opens / clickers, segmenting and removing unresponsive users...converting the leads from quantity to quality and into quality responsive lists. Which you can then also cross-promote other offers on the back-end.

So basically I promote PPL offers because they provide the path of least resistance to generating conversions/$$$ and converting the data into cash producing assets.

There is more to it than it sounds, but done right it can be extremely profitable.

I am sure it has already been said, but the key is to pick a traffic source that you feel comfortable trying and that has a good track record of converting with your system... Do not try an reinvent the wheel, things that work work, and you have to learn what works from the people doing it.

Then you can go about blazing a new path with testing different ways and coming up with different angles.

Kind of like learning to walk then run, and then figure out a way to get faster and out run the other guys and win the race...

    HTH

General tips on niche research is pretty much just going and doing searches on the big platforms, Google, Facebook and YouTube and see what kind of results come back.

And then checking forums for that niche and then going to the marketplaces where the products are and seeing what and how many sells they are making...

Don't be afraid of seeing alot of search results and alot of sells for a product in that niche that is a good thing. You just have to find your niche inside that niche to get your piece of the pie. If that makes sense...
