How would you go about developing this affiliate business model?

Hi all,

First post here looking for your thoughts! I am looking to develop a company which involves a "personal assistant on demand" similar to Go Magic.

Customers would text us if they want restaurant, flight or hotel reservations, etc. and we would take care of it on their behalf. My revenue model would be earning revenue through the commissions I would get from making these bookings.

To start off with, I would like to make the flight and hotel bookings through online travel agents such as Expedia (of course later on one would make individual deals with hotels, restaurants, etc. but I want to try this model out first). Now, Expedia has an affiliate program which offers 6% commission. However, if I am the one making all the bookings (through my own computer) instead of advertising the affiliate link on a website, would that be allowed? Is there something I am missing here, or is there a better way of earning this commission rather than going through their standard affiliate program?

A lot of affiliate programs want to see and review your web site before they will approve you as an affiliate - they are somewhat picky about who they want to deal with (understandably). That's one hurdle.

Then there is the fact that you have no reputation in the industry. Why would someone risk booking their important vacation or business travel with you (and no experience) when they can book for the same price with an established firm that has thousands of positive testimonials and a good track record? (If I'm spending thousands I want it to be without risk as much as possible.)

Finally, how can you make decent money on a six percent commission? How can you make decent money on booking restaurants?

Your question: "... if I am the one making all the bookings (through my own computer) instead of advertising the affiliate link on a website, would that be allowed?"

How can anyone know what the booking company will or won't allow unless they go right to the source? Isn't this a question for the affiliate company's support?
