Would You Do Me A Favor?

If you're selling something or giving something away...and all you're using is a video, would you please include a text transcript because I don't care how good looking you are, I'm not going to sit and listen to you drone on and on.

Let me read the text.

My time is very valuable.

And I really don't care what studies you've read or dissected or had fortune tellers or astrologists tell you as far as what works...what does it hurt to include the transcript? You'll increase your sales.

Just a little favor.

    Hi Max,

I agree with the fact that it is nice to have a transcript in a Word or PDF because it is often a lot quicker to read something than listen so someone talking - and you can easily scan through a document to get to the bits that interest you - something you cannot do with a video!

That's true. It would help to increase the sale especially from NON native English buyers.

    max5ty,

Not sure what you asking for here. This is good advise, but this is a text forum, not a video forum, so not really applicable here.

While I realize it is SOP and some unwritten rule of IM, I resent having words placed on the screen and having someone read them aloud to me, droning on and on and on. Just tell me your story and spice it up with some interesting images (not your phony income screen shots) and you have a much better chance of having me stick around to watch your video. If you're going to insult what infinitesimal intelligence I actually possess, color me gone.

Yeah, I get it. I'm not your usual suspect.

ADDED: Oh, now I get what the OP was driving at. lol Still, I maintain my position.

    Sorry max5ty,

It's not going to happen. Not one in a thousand marketers are going to send you a transcript of their video - they don't cater to individual's needs. I've never received one in over 20+ years of buying things online.

You might get a transcript from someone if you request one. Have you ever done that? But don't hold your breath - to expect one is just a pipe dream.

Besides, many marketers simply show themselves (or not) and read the text of their offer on their video (a horribly boring and insulting tactic) so getting a transcript of their message isn't going to happen.

If you don't care for video, just move on.

      Thanks for your response.

Wasn't referring to video as much as I was to the functionality of the presentation by Internet Marketers.

      Thanks for your comment.

I normally do just move on.

Been a Copywriter for over 30 years...having worked with some of the biggest brands in the world, as well as a few of the top Internet Marketers. So, wasn't wanting a script to use. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

I get tons of emails daily that are offering to sell me something. I click the link and often get met with a video...it's the obvious craze (which by the way, I really am wondering why so many are still so fixated on using email when there's better ways, but that's another topic for another day)...

...anyways, was saying I prefer to read rather than watch due to the time I have and mainly due to the boring junk that is out there. I know saying that will make some all angsty and farty.

I visit sites that have video with no hint of how long it lasts...no way to fast forward...stuff-that-no-one-could-really-remember-exactly-in-an-effort-to-just-tell-the-story-already.

Which means one thing, and one thing only: The only way for me to survive (without checking myself into a mental institution every year), is by aggressively GUARDING MY TIME.

I know there are some sites that offer the transcript if you try and leave the site, and I've seen some sites (not many) that will allow you to read a transcript. Then there's the dreaded sites that think they'll hold you hostage...and I want to kill myself. Like, just up and off myself on the spot (angrily pounding the keyboard).

My comment was that if the viewer were able to simply read rather than watch, sales would increase. But hey, if you have someone that is sitting spell bound and drooling over their overwhelmed selves with every word that is said...they can still watch the video.

We're all afraid of having an ugly baby...so I'm not mainlining vodka here and saying this has to be the rule. Simply saying give it a try...you'll have me quicker as a customer.

      Thanks again for your response.

i do that too. if i can not forward the video i just cancel and move on. I hate 40 minute video about anything. marketers do not realize that long videos are boring and intemidating / overwhelming. but i guess they work or else they will not be using them.
    ================================================== =====
here is a tip: if you do not want to wait to watch the whole video. get the name of the marketer. and type in youtube and get the 5 minute explanation about he is selling
