NEW BLOGGER WHO NEEDS TRAFFIC

I just created a blog that is not your typical lifestyle blog. It is full of heart, advice, stories and so much more. It will mostly be enticing to the college/ high school crowd. Any ideas on how to grow my audience?

The easiest way, find and join some Facebook Group that related to your blog niche, you can post your blog there, but don't spamming.

    Jordan,

What is your goal with this blog? Is it to learn blogging? Just have fun? Or are you trying to make money with it?

If you intend to make money with your blog, you probably need to re-think your audience.

"It will mostly be enticing to the college/ high school crowd." These are two groups that don't have a lot of discretionary income - and some are without credit cards to buy anything.

So my advice is to set a goal and some intermediate objectives of what you want to accomplish with your new blog. Those will largely determine how and where you go after traffic.

    The very best to you,

    Hi Jordan,
Go to Facebook, type your niche (Lifestyle blog) in the search bar. Click groups. Read the descriptions of the groups. If they allow you to share your blog post links, ask to join the groups. This is my Number 1 tip for you.
Use Instagram. Hashtagify.com will help you find relevant hashtags. I use Buffer to post my links to Instagram along with the hashtags.

    Hi Jordan,

Sounds like you have passion down. Good deal

    OK....

    - Write 1000 words daily in a Word document, just for practice....practice in private, shine on a public stage when the lights come on

    - build friendships with top bloggers in the self help and personal development niche by writing 2-4 paragraph, genuine comments on their blogs and by promoting them on social media and via your blog....patiently building strong bonds with power brokers by helping them (without asking for anything in return) is the direct way to inspire them to promote you and endorse you, expanding your reach

    - set a year to year timeline for your blog....avoid being in Survival Mode, trying to make daily bread through your blog...do set goals for years on out to develop a winning, patient, persistent blogging mindset.

    Happy Blogging!

I am happy to hear that you share my passion. This means we will both be Internet gazillionaires from blogging about using our passion to be successful.

              Wasn't that easy???

    Jordan Mosich,

    Welcome!

First of all, not sure students are the best market if you are trying to sell something, they are broke.

Make sure you have some way to monetize your blog. Getting traffic to your blog will take some time. SEO is a great way, you can also try guest blog, get into a comment exchange group, paid traffic to your blog...etc.

In addition to the awesome advice you've already been given on this thread, I'd add this:

Have a monetization system in place as early as possible, so you can put the profits back into growing the blog.

    You'll grow faster.

    Don't.

College students live off of ramen noodles, part-time subway jobs, and papa johns delivery pizzas on friday nights. What makes you think they have money to spend and money to blow on a blog targeted to them? Why would an audience choose your blog over the rave party next friday night? That's college students. Do you really think high school students have money to blow on your blog also?

Social Media like Facebook and Instagram are silver lining for you in dark clouds. These are best platform to drive traffic to your blog

As has been suggested use various social media platforms to drive traffic.

And to make money from it perhaps CPA offers where they don't have
    to spend anything.

Start with Facebook ads targeting your typical audience.

Build an Email List in exchange for example to some tips related to your niche: a report for having some gig works, to speed up learning or reading etc.

So you can market that list and inform them with the new content of your blog: turn them from occasionally visitors to fans.

Then you can import that list to facebook, so you build a lookalike audience and promote new post also to this lookalike audience.

You have to identify were your audience is located and make sure that you post at the times they are likely to be online . So run a few test to see where you are getting the traffic from

I have also taken note that you are going to be covering a selection of articles which might confuse your readers as to what your blog is about .

If your blog isn't going to be specific maybe you should consider a digital magazine blog set up .

Think ! Where does your target audience hang out, is it in forums or facebook groups.Once you know where they are then you need to hang out with them. Provide tons of value first and then drop links to your blog.

Also master one or two traffic sources first, for example forums. Live and breathe the forums and set a schedule like 1 hour per day for a month at least and then maybe an hour on facebook as well.

That's all you need to get started.

Whether students is an ideal target market is a different story, that depends if you have found a unique angle or some specific passion or problem that they all have in common.

You can post about your blog on different forums and create business pages on social media like Instagram, Facebook and post snippets of each post to drive that traffic to your blog.

There are many online Facebook groups where you can post about your blog and ask them to join. Further, if you have time, create your youtube channel by the blog name and make small 1 minute videos or whatever you desire to generate immense traffic.

I think that a blog related to college and youth niche can best be promoted using social media, especially fb and instagram. Personally, I've had notable success using these two methods, no matter what niche I promoted over the years.
What's working currently is videos. You may want to throw some live/recorded videos into the mix.

You can use the Social Media Site, Relevant Blog Commenting, Forum Posting & so on. I believe if you can do this work, you will get a good result. On the flip side if you do not know how to do this work, you can hire a freelancer to do this work for you. I think nowadays there are many Freelancer in various Freelancing Market Place at a cheap rate. Thanks for your efforts.

First, I would think about growing a email list. Get yourself an autoresponder and add a subscription form on your blog. Then I would promote your content on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc. Other places like YouTube is a good idea.

Quick question - how are you getting traffic now? Perhaps there is a way to help scale that up.

One thing that will help you is creating a social media fan page where you can build your audience and give them maximum value.

You can then direct your traffic to your blog with a link on your social media page.

Where are these high school/college kids that you're trying to target hanging out? What are they talking about? What are some of their issues and questions?

Spend some time and find out which social media groups and blogs your target audience are joining and join them yourself.

Always provide as much value in each blog as possible and people will really want to read it.

Backlinks will help. I agree that you should have a social media fan page, which could greatly help. You will also want to make sure you have great content on the site and it is interactive, which can really help you out a great deal.

Get a massive list of keywords related to your niche

Find specific blog posts and comment while linking to specific content on your blog

This is quite an investment that can pay off big time

    How?

You can get guest post opportunities
Your post can get linked to without you providing guest posts
    You can get interviewed
you can be added to social media distribution lists
