So let me get this right,
All I have to do if I want to rank for a keyword is email the site owners to remove their sites so that my site can move up the serps. WOW I never thought of that, now thats what I call thinking way outside the box, forget link wheels long live emails. lol

Actually, I'd write them back and ask:

A: How much will you pay me to remove my site? Or

B: How much will you pay me to buy my site? Or

C: How much will you pay me to rank you higher for the keyword blank blank blank?

Then point out options A-C would be much cheaper in cost compared to a lawyer to laugh in their face.

Also point out if this is their main business and they will be losing a lot of income it would be in their best interest to pay me accordingly.

Tell him something like - "Hey we see you are number 2 for this keyword. We are number 1 and we only want useless sites like ours to be on the first page of google. Please remove your site now so we can replace your #2 position with other useless sites from some other niche".

Yeah, you're right. I guess if I were a dentist and I advertise in the yellow pages and some other dentist comes along and buys a full page color ad that gets put in front of my half page black and white ad I should send a letter to the dentist whose ad is now bigger and in front of mine and tell them:

My name is Dr. Smith and I run Smith's Dental Practice. I have run my dentist practice for over 2 years and I had the best position in the yellow pages under dentists in this phone book until yesterday when the new phone book came out and your ad is now before mine.

But infact I see your dental practice is useless and has nothing to do with dentistry.

Can you please remove your ad from the yellow pages so that my ad can go higher. Please understand that dentistry is my main business and we cannot afford to be there so the best thing will be that you please remove your ad from the yellow pages.

If you don't agree to remove your ad from the yellow pages for dentistry we may go upto any extent and may sue you for this. Please don't force us to do so.

Seems it is a phenomena.

I have many top placed domains. Many with keywords that do not even appear in the top placed site. Some of the keywords used in Google are names of MLM companies and even though those keywords are not in the site, these companies send me threatening legal letters demanding that I take a particular site down because it is ranking on the same page as the company page.

This may sound silly but some of these law firms are serious even though their is no case law or legal positioning that comes close to justifying this.

But, it is going to get worse is my humble opinion. Where their is ignorance, greed and attorneys, you can expect disasters.

Other than that it still cracks me up.

My philosophy, if you can't rank well, change your strategy, adapt but don't bully someone into moving aside just so that you can maintain your position.

I got a registered letter in mail the other day that I had to sign for that basically said the same thing... take your site down or I will sue. I don't know if I should chuck the letter in the trash or take it more seriously? Kind of scary... people sue for anything these days... yikes!

Too funny! I really need this laugh.

I've also taken it to heart and explained to my orange cat that when the calico cat wants to sit on my lap, he has to get off because he's obviously taking up too much space and the calico cat is in much greater need of the lap.

The problem is that he doesn't quite seem to get it. He just looks at me and purrs, which is not exactly the result the calico cat was looking for. Guess I'll just have to make them read this thread.
