How do you use exit pops, if you do? Do you try to get an email address or something else?

Many thanks

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. You should test this and see what gets the best results for YOU. Eveyone's results will be different.

I dont use them. When i used to use the "pop-ups" kinds, it was a quick free offer in exchange for name and email address. My subscribers this way didn't last long though. I had a high unsubscribe rate after they downloaded the freebie. If you dont have a squeeze page... and you have a blog or standard website... you should opt for a hover ad to capture leads when they first visit your site.

Google "wishpond 5 exit pop ups" Once you go there you will learn what an exit popup is for. It explains about 5 exit popups that they like. And it will answer you question, "How do you use exit pop ups?" You may get some good ideas from there.

Personally I hate popups and it's rare I will do business with any site that has them. However, I know some people love them.

I hate them as well - however they work.

I don't make a pitch straight away with the exit pop but instead ask them a question (it's normally quite loaded).

The idea is to take advantage of what Cialdini calls 'consistency and commitment'. After they have agreed with the statement or said yes to the question a second section appears which states that we also agree with the statement and invites them to join xxxxxx amount of others who feel the same.

Some social proof has been added into the mix here.

If they say no to the question we do an online variation of feel felt found and try and take them to some content.

I think there is a google seo penalty where they lower down the value of a webpage if it use an exit pop up. Read it somewhere, not 100% if it is true or not.

I have done in the past. I used exit pops on my blog. Mainly for subscribers so name, and email addresses. I like to use exit intent to reduce annoying my readers.

I gave it up when I realized Google wasn't happy with them. They are particularly finicky about having them on any page you might want to use in Adsense. Frankly, I'm having better luck with a fixed banner ad at the top. The value of your freebie or offer can make all the difference either way.

Sometimes you can get a good result with exit pop-ups. But you have to create a good and interesting pop up. It is important not to irritate visitors who visit your site often.

    Hello,
I have tested this over the years, I use a floating Custom Graphic, that says Free ebook, so when you scroll on my website, it stays in view at all times, but never pops out, so I find that this is the best way to get optins from any site.

Most people do not like pop ups, and most of them, pop up as soon as your reading something that you really like, then her comes that annoying pop up, ah so ya don't use them at all.

What works well is a animated gif optin, this way you can control the movement of animation used on gif image, that is what I test now.

    ok hope this helps everyone

    I personally don't.

I use a simple scroll down type of capture page with a call-to-action. This is simply a two-step page that will allow me to capture an email address to add them to my list.

I don't use an exit pop-up simply because I want to try and capture the email right away. The average time you have to grab someones attention and keep them focused is about 5-7 seconds.

I use them with a lot of good results.

PResentation matters. Your graphic, your copy, and your offer are paramount. Interrupting them can go off pretty badly if you're not giving them something useful .

A popup that says sign up for our newsletter won't cut it. You need more mph.

For ecommerce stores, I tend to give away a discount.

For other niches a report, case study, or tool is a great way to get people to part with their email address.

On my personal website, I have a calculator that pops up. It'll let you calculate how big your list needs to be in order to reach your income goals. It has a 45% opt-in rate.

I had one before that was like - follow my journey. That one had a 10% opt-in rate. Huge difference.

Usually exit pop-ups are not so effective. I do not know why people are still prefer this instead of leading your customers to the actual registration (which is much better) but I guess that you can try with some visual video exit pop-up solution which are were popular today.

Basic idea is to take someone contact email to fill up your subscribe list database.. Just be sure to set only once to appear per visit..
Some people activate it to appear again and again on each page and that is wrong.
