Ideal Video Length For Sales Videos?

Hi guys,

I get this question or dilemma a lot with my video clients, so I decided to shoot an entire video on the topic, basing in on some research released by Wistia around a year or so ago.

They pulled data from 565,000 videos with more than 1.3 billion plays, so I think it's quite representative.

Have a look and let me know what you think, I hope you find it useful!

If you just wanna skip the video, basically the sweet spot is anything under 2:00, after that the engagement rate starts dropping.

Research source: https://wistia.com/blog/optimal-video-length

Cheers,
-Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

    nice video - you're a star!

Yes I have heard that under 3 minutes is best.

What surprises me is the fact that more than 40% of people will watch a video for more
    than fifteen minutes

A lot of videos I post are just one minute long.

Just enough to whet people's appetite, then if they want to find out more I have a link under the video to my website.

    Best Regards

    Hi Thanks.

I had been keeping sales videos under 3 min because I noticed a drop off.

My YouTube Videos I had been keeping at under 10 min for travel videos, info videso etc.

Seems to be the sweet spot for YT videos about most topics.

    Eduard,

Great video & data! I've heard 2-3 minutes is a good range. But it depends on what you are doing too!

      Thanks, glad you like it!

It's not that surprising though, not many people land on a video by accident and our attention span might be bad, but it's not THAT bad lol especially if it's something you're interested in. I find myself watching 1h+ videos all the time

Indeed, YouTube is a little different, especially if you do a vlog or other piece of content that people were actively searching for (to learn something, etc.)

Depend on the niche, the content, the offer, the audience and even the country or the city. Down here... less than 1 minute is the best! So... just to say that there's really no clue but following the trend in any data we may find from trustworthy sources (which actually they made it), or at least related to our thing.

Short and sweet always works best. Between 2-5 mins works best in my experience - longer can work if you have a call to action about 3 mins in.

Yes I think it also depends with how much spare time you have.

If I only have an hour to spend on the internet and I want to get some things done, if I am attracted to a video I will only watch fairly short ones otherwise my time will fly by and I will not have done half of what I intended.

I think this applies especially to sales videos - people do not usually go on the internet to watch sales videos - they are usually attracted to them by a good headline or image and they will not usually spend too long watching them!

If you wish to have ad video then even 1 minute is a long one, everything more then couple of minutes is just wasting of time and lose of profit.

Your experience seems to match the results

Indeed! Nobody usually goes on the Internet with the purpose of watching a sales video which is why I think the purpose of such a video is not to go straight for the sale, but to attract and spark more interest so that the cold prospect now turned warmer looks for more info on the sales page / website

That might be the case, would be interesting if Facebook released some research on engagement rates for video ads, that would be fantastic to look at!
