Looking for new hosting with strong security

I have been with Hostgator for about 10 years now with very few problems (I have a business account with about 15 domains on it)

Last week all my sites were taken offline due to malware on a 3 page microsite

They told me it would be $107 to manually clean the site before they would re-activate all my sites. I paid the money and 48hrs later my sites were up and running again

Today I come home to find all my sites are offline again and that if I wanted them back again I would have to pay another $107

They then tried to upsell me on a "better security package" that would cost me $99 a month for each site.

Most of these sites are blogs and are not monetized (I have an ecommerce store hosted on 3d cart for that) so I am not happy at paying a fee of $99 each

Can someone recommend hosting that isn't going to drain my bank account on EXTRA security fees please?

thanks

It is highly unlikely that the host has anything to do with your security problems. The real issue is the platform that you built the websites on, which is why the same problem occurred almost immediately. Moving to another host is not going to solve that problem.

Thanks for the fast reply Dave - well let me re-phrase it then

Is there any wordpress plug in that will save me getting gouged paying $99 a site in security charges?

    Aussie Al,

You might consider either iThemes Security plugin or Wordfence plugin - both have free and paid versions. Even the free version is better than nothing.

Until you find and remove the access point the hackers used, you will continue to run into the same problem, regardless of your hosting.

It's ironic, but chances are very good it's a Wordpress plugin that is allowing access in the first place. It could be a theme or WP core vulnerability as well of course, but most access for hackers comes through plugins.

Agree with others it is not the hosts fault. Ran into the same problems awhile back. Use wordfence and sign up for the free emails. Here is a link to get to wordfences home page and read more about their offers - https://www.wordfence.com (Non affiliate link) Also you can go directly to wordpress.org and download it. Good luck.

Also, make sure your plugins are updated regularly. Avoid using plugins that have not been updated for many months.

Go to Webhosting Talk and check on any discounts for the host you choose. They often have bigger discounts than you'll find anywhere else. Sometimes they are lifetime discounts too. It's well worth your time.

I highly recommend WF's own Vikash. They don't come any better as he is talented, knowledgeable, honest and fairly priced. He will make you a good deal.

So it turns out that Hostgator and Sitelock are owned by the same people and this is a regular stunt they pull with customers.

I have now read numerous reports of people who split their hosting over a few companies and only having their HG hosted sites infected by malware and held to ransom by signing up for Sitelock to get their sites back:
    https://www.ripoffreport.com/reports...earch/sitelock

Sitelock held me over a barrel and told me I had to sign up to get my sites back - now they are telling me I need to pay out $300 for an "early termination" of my agreement if I do not want to pay month to month

So I am really looking for hosting that is not run by the Endurance International Group, as apparently they pull the same stunt on all their hosted properties. SO please do not recommend me Bluehost

    thanks

I have hosted all of my sites with Hostgator for nearly 10 years - except those built on Shopify. And up until about 6 months ago, I never had a problem.

Then, every one of my sites started becoming infected. I would remove the malware and have a security audit done and it would be infected again within a week. This happened 4-5 times in a row.

I switched over to Namecheap hosting and I haven't had any issues yet.

So - have you spoken with Vikash mentioned in Post No. 12? Are you really looking for a solution or just like to see how many people you can get to reply, usually with one mediocre recommendation after another? lol

I think I am pretty interested in Namecheap - Vikash looks more like a wordpress webmaster or helping in migration which Namecheap can do for me.

Personally he doesn't look like the solution to my problems - thanks though

Trust me - whatever you need, he can do. Any type of hosting. A conversation wouldn't hurt.
