Are all 1 word domains name considered premium?

No. The majority of single word domains are not premium. A premium domain is one that is based on a word that would be of great value to a commercial enterprise. A domain like cars.com would be premium. A domain like cantankerously.com, not nearly as much. There are different levels of 'premium'

True, Gene, but for some people "cantankerously.com" would be very appropriate and therefore "premium".

It was your domain flipping thread that got me onto this. I am following your report but I went on a tangent with the short domain.

I agree about the different levels of premium. I ran a list of widget components through your software and started getting very common generic names of everything widget that were available in .com and .net. If you were in this niche I am sure they would be valuable.

I don't really want to reveal the niche but if it was the cars niche it would be things like carseats, speedshifter, radialtire, common components like these.

I am surprised since it is an extremely popular niche.

I guess a test is the way to go. I have an account at sedo and plan to look into DNJournal but can you recommend other places to sell domains?

Depending on the length of the word and whether it's a noun or not, you could have some valuable domains. I would focus on items/things we use as opposed to, say, a type of moss found in Brazil.

I am by no means an expert at domain flipping or picking up dropped domains but something I noticed...

I'm not really sure how all of the dropped domains are tracked but it seems that there are a lot of unclaimed .com's that were dropped before .com's became cheap enough to buy in bulk and domaining/flipping became popular. They are sort of flying under the radar and nobody is buying them up because they aren't showing up on any reports.

It may be total coincidence on my part, searching for the right thing at the right time but I've found a few gems laying around that came with backlinks and page rank even though they had been dropped several years ago.

If you can find a nice one word brandable .com then jump on it. Your only out $2 - 10 bucks.

Dave, another good place to list/sell domains is at Afternic.com. I prefer Sedo.com because their sales process is much cleaner and easier, but I list at both. I highly recommend setting an actual purchase price on each domain you list -- you'll sell a whole lot more than if you leave it open for offers.

Here is the best way to know if you have a premium domain. If you said that it's they are niche one word domains available, check to see how often people are searching for that term with Google Trends. That should help you make a decision for which domains are premium and which aren't.

Thanks all for the solid advice. I have jumped in and registered a bunch of domains.

I had them run through sedo's free estimating tool and was just wondering if anyone has experience with the accuracy of this.

Also, Gene, do you pay the $39 at sedo to feature the domains?

Any free estimating tool is good only for entertainment value. Even paid appraisals are completely unreliable. If you paid 10 different appraisers, you would get 10 completely different results, unless your domain is truly outstanding.

The BEST way to determine the value of your domain name is to compare it, feature for feature, with similar domains that have actually sold in the recent past. This site is VERY helpful in doing just that: DN Sale Price- Domain Name Sales Price and History (no affiliation whatsoever).

No, I have never used the $39 feature domain option -- based on the experience of other pro domainers.

That is what I was looking for. After seeing what sold for four letter domains I was trying to figure out what some ment but ?? ALmost like they sold simply because they were four letter domains not because they ment anything to the general population.

I have found several dozen short (under 10 letters) 1 word domains but I don't plan to share them here. I have no reason to start this thread other then to ask some questions. You aren't forced to stay and read this post if you feel I have an alternate motive.

Depends on the length and commercial value... There are plenty of one word domain names that are available at throwaway prices since it is difficult to monetize them...
