What expenses do you deduct from Tax Declaration?

Apart from the obvious: programs purchased, phone broadband etc.. Is there anything else major you offset against tax? I think you can count a room in the house as a study and so write off a sum based on it's rent etc..
I've never used an accountant so interested in case I've missed something obvious.
Thanks

Happens every year about this time.

Tax advice from a public forum is questionable to begin with. Asking about taxes with no country/location listed is a bit silly.

You mean tax laws are different in different countries? Or do you mean you don't read minds?

I think it's a pretty basic question actually. I was asking in general terms - not asking for specialist advice. I'm always amazed at some of the pointless responses you get on public forums.

What you can deduct does depend on the tax jurisdiction you're in.

One one level, everything that helps you run the business, seems like a good answer.

But... does your jurisdiction allow everything you spent, the way you spent it?

Better yet, is it a good idea for you to deduct it? Is it a good diea to deduct it this year or is it a good idea to deduct it next year?

And, of course, how (on which part of your taxes) do you deduct them.

Ask a stupid question, expect less than helpful answers.

Start with your country's tax authority -- in the USA, that would be the IRS.

Then do some googling for blogs/sites run by bona fide experts in your country.

I could give you ideas based on my interpretation of the US Tax Code, but I could be wrong (as determined by the IRS and the courts if it got that far). If you followed my advice, you might run afoul of your taxing authority.

So including what country you are asking about is kind of a minimum if you want reasonable answers.

As far as general terms go, DABK's general answer is about as specific as you should get.

Why not try googling Tax deductions and specify your business. You can deduct square footage used in the business. This USA-California also percentae of utilities, any products like paper pens ink cartridges for the printer. telephone charges for a home phone and cell phone, advertising costs, your Warrior membership if applicable. If you take clients to dinner? give stuff to salvation army... give your time to any needy causes???

Webhosting costs and autoresponder costs are 2 things that can be included.
