Just Got Laid Off - What's the Quickest Way to Make Money?

So... I was preparing for my first product launch, and then.... I got laid off. So now I don't have this job on the side getting me money while I build my business.

I have a wife and 2 kids, need money right away. What is the quickest way to make some? Doesn't need to be much, just $1,500 to survive...

I know that CB is out because it takes too long to get the first payment. So what else could I do?

Services and WSO's will probably be the quickest.

Sorry about the layoff. It really hurts when you are not in control and someone else is.

Don't spend your money on Internet Marketing unless
you have another source coming in. If you have any
special skills like: website building, writing, graphic
design, etc., It might be easier to sell your freelance
    services to other marketers.

Get another job quickly and continue your internet
    "money-making" later.

    Sam Kane

P.S. Maybe an emergency WSO where you honestly offer
your services/skills to other warriors is your best bet.

I know it's already been said twice before me, but I figured third time's a charm, right?

Providing services is the quickest way to make some extra cash.

Very sorry about the lay off.

Actually, there is no fastest way to get money. Everything takes time and effort.

Agree with SamKane, considering you've got a wife and kids, too. Selling skills you have and make money from it. Offer services to another member, or be a tutor, it was a good idea, too. If you can write, you can sell your writing too.

Pay attention to what is your potential. Sell it and make money from it.

4th - providing services is the only way to make money without risking any income or savings that you may have. If you are not already making money online now is not the time to start testing to see what will work for you.

3 fastest ways to get the cash if you have paypal:

Ebay - go and auction off what ever you can consider a BIN offer

RAP - find some Rap products and slap up a campaign lickity split. They are paypal and instant payment. Rap forum will give you an idea of where the vendors are.

Sell your services - you can ask for a deposit up front depending what it is.

      Hey Nelson...

Have any skills you can offer your local offline business owners? Web design / Re-design can often lead to fast income with payment up front or a 50% deposit...(can easily be outsourced if you lack the actual skills...just be a pimp & get the jobs ...lol....BTW, webdesignpimp.com is available)...bag an easy job or two for 1,500-2,000 & your set...then start lining up some projects for next month...

Then there's setting up autoreponders, email campaigns, newsletters, online ads, etc......use your aweber / getresponse affiliate links to sell the product, (monthly residual income...) then charge a monthly fee to manage it all...

Along those same lines...it's easy to set up & manage blogs, twitter, facebook, linkedin accounts...charging initial set-up fee + monthly management charges...

Also articles / press releases for local businesses brings in some fast cash....

Lots of ways to make fast cash & residual income just by visiting some local businesses & talking to the owners,.....or writing them (post card method), emailing them....or picking up the phone & calling them...& schedule an appointment...
Just do a fast WF search for "offline" & you will get a slew of methods & means that can be applied immediately...& possibly have cash in hand with-in a week...

Good luck Nelson...let us know how you make out either way you go...

Man, it sucks, I know. Go deliver some pizzas to help income get in, quickly. I know all about it. Pizza Delivery is great part time work, usually average around $15 per hour, and, it doesn't take much to get you to where you need to be to grow your business.

    Nelson,
sorry to hear about the layoff. I went through 2, plus 2 business closings, in the early part of the decade during the dot com - bust so I know how you feel.

First, I don't know if Canada has the equivalent of the unemployment insurance program like here in the US, but if they do make sure you've got all the paperwork in. Every little bit helps.

Next, contact your main creditors and let them know - see if they can help delay/lower payments. My mortgage is with a credit union and both times I was laid off they allowed me to skip 3 months of payments to help keep us on our feet.

Folks have given some great advice here. As Jill recommended - look at ebay and at offering your services to others.

Also look at selling things on craigslist or other online classified sites. Stuff you have in your attic etc - I'm not talking about spamming them with IM offers. If you have anything you don't need in the house look to get rid of it. Most folks post pretty boring ads - they're not copywriters after all - so if you take some of the information offered here on the forum on copy writing you'll be able to sell your items at a premium.

If you have any old gold jewelry - look at selling it at a jewelry store. Gold is sky high at this time. A pawn shop would be your next best bet - and definitely stay away from those tv advert sites who say they buy gold - they'll rip you off so bad that the Devil is having trouble expanding Hell to handle that crowd.

Figure out what your skill set is and see if folks might be interested in doing a JV with you. I don't think you can run a WSO yet, but keep contributing and learning on the forum.

Finally - PM me with your email address, lets see if there's something else I can do to help out - I just want to see if basically you're sincere and see how we can help each other out and maybe see about getting you into the War Room. I'm jack.tackett on skype as well.

    Lets Talk,

    best,
    --Jack

    Hi Nelson,

I am sorry you lost your job. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as quickest way... or a fast money making method. Running an internet business, is like running an offline business, you must work hard and it takes time.

If I was you, I'd look for another job, that guarantees some sort of income. Still, keep doing the internet marketing on the side, but make sure to... have some sort of income coming in.

I highly recommend the 30daychallenge Thirty Day Challenge. This can bring you up to speed, on some of the latest marketing techniques... that are used by top marketers today.

Offering your services/talent is the one of the ways, that can bring in some decent income ina quick way. Visit the WSO section of the forum, have a look at what is being offered and see if you can offer something that is similar.

You can also go to sites such as Elance | Hire experts to do your work: outsource to companies, consultants and freelance professionals. and see if you can offer your services on there. I'd still get a job that guarantees an income and do the IM stuff on the side... till it starts making you reliable income, that surpasses your offline job's income.

If you know some local business owners or your friends know some local business owners then you can help them with their internet marketing for a fee.

Most businesses can easily afford to pay you $500 to $2,500+ if you come up with some simple ways to increase their sales and profits.

And they'll pay you 50%+ in advance.

With your internet marketing experience (and I'm assuming you know how to put a website online) you have some skills that are VERY valuable to small business owners.

Keep in mind that many business owners pay thousands of dollars just to have a website created that makes them nothing in real sales.

If you can help a business make just an extra $100 a week in profits that's over $5,000 a year.

And with many internet marketing strategies (like SEO) those extra sales keep coming in year after year.

That makes a $1,500 fee look very modest.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

Sorry to hear that you got laid off...

Well, Do you have a load of private label rights, resell rights, master resell rights or other content that you own the rights to just taking up space on your hard drive?

Then it's time to have a fire sale.

Simply gather up all the content you have, make an unbelievably low, "no brainer" offer, and let your sale run for about one week. You'll make the most money if you advertise your sale on niche forums, via affiliates, via joint venture partners, on CraigsList.org and elsewhere.

Here's an idea that is very similar to the last - except in this case, you seek out items offline to buy, and then sell them online for a profit. Of course you can also seek out online products to buy and sell them offline.

    Thats one way...

Here are a few ways to raise quick cash flipping offline products online:

Attend yard sales, estate sales and offline auctions to find products to resell.

Attend flea markets, craft fairs and similar events to find products.

Place want ads in your local newspaper to seek out "hot" products to resell.

Visit stores that are going out of business to secure liquidated merchandise you can resell.

Seek out closeouts, overstocks and liquidated merchandise online and offline through publications and sites like The Closeout News.

Once you get the merchandise in hand, selling it is easy. Simply go to eBay.com, CraigsList, USFreeAds or niche marketplaces to move your products fast.

    Hope this helps...take care...

Sorry to hear about your layoff.

For me, I will advise that never try to dive into internet marketing stuff unless you know what you are doing and unless you have a budget to start with.

For me, if you to make money instantly for free, I would highly suggest offering your services as a freelancer.

Write articles or design graphics using sites like elance.com or scriptlance.com

Hope you could get out of your current situation smoothly.. All the best..

    Cheers!

If I had a wife and 2 kids depending on it, I would get out there and get another job as fast as I could and continue to build up your Internet business. I don't know what skills you have but instead of launching a product, if you have skills that other people need, offer those services, but I would still get out there and get that job, even if it's working for a fast food restaurant to get some reliable source of income.

    Great responses so far.

Check Craigslist and check the biz/sales section, a lot of companies are now using contract sales people instead of full time employees. You can get paid on a commission basis, and if you work full time actually pull over 40-50k a year.

If you don't find a job in 2 weeks, give me an IM, as I think I'll be needing a few more sales reps.

Just remember that with every bad event comes a new opportunity.

    Great responses all.

Go with services...sell the shovels to the gold diggers...

A few things off the top of my head:
    Niche research
    Article writing
    Social bookmarking submissions
    Social bookmarking account setups

Take a look through the WSO's at the services being offered to get some ideas of what to do and what to charge.

That would be good if he was from the Philippines and could live off of a 9k a year salary. That type of Internet grunt work is not the way to go. The pay is absolutely terrible--he could make more working at McDonald's.

Well at least a few people on here are making some sense. The very first thing you need to do is sit down with your wife and figure out your current financial status. Whats your budget? How long will your current savings etc keep the mortgage/rent paid and food on the table? Once you figure this out then you have a much more educated base on which to stand so your not spazzing out as much. You might have more time to get things going then you thought you had.

Secondly, apply for unemployment. If you dont know if you're eligible for it due to the time you were at your job or whatever, simply make a call and find out. This could buy you even more time.

Third, hit the streets and pickup a job as a waiter, bartender, or barista. They are all pretty quick jobs to get and as far as part time work goes, they pay exceptionally well.

Fourth, keep your eyes on completing your product launch provided youve been successful with the first three steps. Your wife and kids are your priority. But you also im hoping have a passion for your product and not just doing it to make a quick buck. So its obviously something that brings you joy. Keep at it and that will help to keep you in an upbeat mood which will trickle down to your wife and children. Thus, everybody will remain in good spirits.

I hope this info helps you my friend. Take care.

Ok...today is the 11th. Say he pounds the pavement all this week in search of a "real job".....lets say he gets lucky & lands one, starting the following wednesday, the 21st....for $15 an hour...40 hr work week...
Now...many corporate payroll periods run from weds to tues..with payday on thursday or Friday. But...keep in mind that many businesses also hold the first weeks pay.
So...he starts on the 21st, Wedensday....works all week & the following week....finally payday comes. His pay is about 600.00 per week before taxes, 400.00 after (33% holding)...2 weeks is about 800.00...GREAT!!

BUT...look at the calander!! it's already the 6th of November...His bills...his rent were all due on the 1st.....needing 1,500 minimum as he stated...but he's only got 800.00....& he's a week late already....he's screwed!!

Now.....IF he had followed the advice of some & had Taken Action & utilized some of his IM skills...

            Senerio 1: He chooses different niches & writes 10 articles about each....& writes 20 articles a day for 5 days for the next 3 weeks....sells them in niche packs of 10 for 50.00 each...thats 100.00 per day...at 15 days = 1,500.00.....
*his bills & rent is paid on time, there's food on the table & he has the entire month to work on more (double the time he just had)...

*prices stated are bare bones minimum...most likely can get more depending on the niches, quality of your work & demand...

Senerio 2: Going the "offline" route.....He spends the next 2 days researching the warrior forum for "offline threads" compiling useful info to use & some different approaches to take...also researching some local businesses...making a list of 50 to visit personally & 100 to send a letter / post card to...
(it's the 11th now).....by next wednesday he sets out to visit some local businesses....visiting 10 per day. Also he sends out his 100 letters / cards on the following saturday...hoping for a tuesday delivery...
by friday (the 23rd) he has 2 appointments set up from his visit with 50 local business...plus...he gets 2 replies from his mailings.
Of the 4 appointments, he lands 3 jobs....2 for web design, 1 for setting up a autoresponder / newsletter ...
The Web design projects are for 2,000.00 & 1,500.00....thats 3,500 total, gets 50% deopsit on each up-front...(1,750.00) he outsources both for 500.00 ea (with a 50% deposit to the designers)
            Thats 1,750 minus 500 deposits = 1,250.00

He provides the autoresponder on his affiliate link...charges a 450.00 set-up fee (paid in full up front)+ a 150.00 management fee...
            1,250 + 450 = 1,700.00

*his bills & rent is paid, foods on the table....plus...he gets a referral from his clients & starts on next months earnings.... wash, rinse, repeat....plus gets residual income from his autoresponder affiliate....
The balance of the web design payment comes in after those are complete, bringing in another 1250.00...plus the newsletter 150.00 management fee charged brings it to 1,500.00.... that is used for next months bills

*again...prices stated are minimums....web design can fetch much more & i've seen some in the WF getting up to 1,000 per autoresponder st-up...shot for what ever your local market will bare...

Yes, quick money is doable in IM...For the nay sayers... Take action & find out...

*Do as Sophist suggests & file for unemployment.....outsource as much of the IM work as you can...allowing you time to concentrate on your upcoming product launch....

              Start offering services.

I'd recommend figuring out if you feel comfortable writing, doing virtual assistant work, bookmarking, basically do anything anyone else doesn't want to do, and do it better than the rest of your competition. Spend the $20 on a WSO, go to other forums and post for free (you won't get a great result necessarily from the others since many of them are willing to sacrifice quality for savings) but it's more eyeballs none the less.

PM me if you need help writing sales copy or anything. PLEASE try out what I'm saying before you follow any article marketing strategy, this is a long term profit idea AT BEST (using articles), providing a service will get you instant money.

I wish the OP would listen to the advice also...
Who knows? So many times people start a "how to" thread...get boat loads of stellar advice, but the OP never answers back. No one knows if they ever used the advice & took action on it...or if they just blew it off...
Sad part is....most times they never acknowlegde in anyway...those who went out of their way to help...
There is a lot of solid advice in this thread....If not the OP, then I hope someone can benefit from it all.
There always seems to be at least 2 open threads on "how can I make money fast" in the main discussion forum at any given time...with great replies in each. Tons of info to be had for those who search for it...

I've often wondered why this happens as I've seen it numerous times myself. Is it because subconsciously people think that by posing the question itself they have "tried it"? And in so doing they pacify that initial drive to succeed just enough where they don't need to follow up, they just continue getting by?

I don't know if what I said even makes sense. And I don't know this OP's reasons. He might be the next post for all I know, and has spent the last couple days doing what was advised. I'm just thinking out loud I suppose.

He provides the autoresponder on his affiliate link...charges a 450.00 set-up fee (paid in full up front)+ a 150.00 management fee...

    Nelson,

I can relate my friend. During the last 2 years I have only worked 7 months and my credit cards are....

I live in South Florida which like CA has the second highest unemploy rate.

I have been an accountant for over 20 years, last 10 as a controller and 2 years ago was laid off and have been having the hardest time finding a job.

I am also a single full-time dad to an 8 yr old boy which makes it harder to find a job as I am the only one who can take him to school and pick him up so work has to e close too school.

Its been 5 months now and I am stressed as hell but hoping things will change.

I tried the CB thing and after getting 1200 clicks to affiliate programs I was promoting and no sales I gave up.

Trying a few ideas now and hoping something will work out. I am like you and would be happy with $1500 a month and build from there.

    Good luck.

    John

P.S. Sometimes finding another job is not as easy as some people think. For me it took me 7 months first time and that was with 20 yrs experience in my field and with degree.

I was either over qualified or under qualifed. A lot of companies won't hire you if you were making 70K and their position only pays 35K as they figure you will be gone as soon as something better comes along. They don't care if you have a family to take care or bills....

Just locate buyer for your articles...
      • Try running a WSO here at the WF
      • Try running a classified ad
      • Try posting in the "warrior for hire" section
      • Put links in your WF sig
      • Try other forums also...
      • If your niche has forums or blogs...post there
      • Twitter, Facebook
You need to target your niche....if you can find the buyers....everyday is payday

      Good luck,

    1. Do you qualify for any type of unemployment? If so file tomorrow. I once got laid off from a job when the owner sold it over lunch and by closing time the same day I had my paperwork in.

    2. Can you reduce your expenses? Maybe scale back on TV, cell phone, internet etc. for a short time until you get back on your feet.

    3. Make a list of all of your skills and talents. Think outside the box. My uncle goes around town painting curb numbers for $12 a job. It isn't a ton BUT it is enough to get by.

    4. Part time work or full time work. Look for a job that you can get - maybe part time or full time. Again not a career here - just something to stop the blood loss.

Good luck and sorry for being laid off.

    First -- a sidenote.
I use about 3 different tab extensions on Firefox -- one of the advantages of which is that my tabs run in along the left side of my browser window (treestyle tabs) -- with the title of the page.

And, as I looked at it, the subject of the thread got chopped off...

    Mine says ....

    "Just Got Laid"

    LOL.

I'll transmorgify a saying I got from Kevin Riley. I was reading a rather contentious WF thread one day, and then Kevin popped up with a post about hamsters -- a rather de-railing post, LOL.

I asked him about it, and he said "Why fight when you can laugh?

Okay -- "Why cry when you can laugh." I think there is a quote from Bertrand Russell or someone from the same land of about the same time which basically says there's nothing so serious that you can't laugh at it. (Actually, the statement
has a nice parallelism, which I don't recall ...dang, have to going to dig up that quote.)

I guess what I'm trying to give you one of the most important things you can have in this situation: equanimity; "don't panic" (remember, the answer is 42); a useful perspective.

If you've got talents -- knowledge -- skills -- shop 'em around to your fellow warriors. Explain your situation, too. Write it up in a WSO and you may well be good to go.

    Live JoyFully!

    Judy

PS You can not only survive this, but thrive this. It may be the universe's way of telling you what you need to do, making you take the step that you were just too terrified to make on your own. (Or would have to make too many explanations to family...)

      Hi

I completely agree with SamKane about focusing on finding another job quickly, then going back to your internet projects. If you have a wife and kids, this is probably your best bet.

I'm lucky in this regard. I have two Site Build It! sites and one is at the point where it's chugging away, building its own traffic practically and the money just rolls in now. All the work I did in the past is paying off. Soon I'll never be at the mercy of anyone else.

To be honest, though, it took three years and the sacrifice of a lot of personal time to get to this point. Which is why I agree with Sam.

The best way to get into internet marketing is to start up alongside a full-time job, so I would recommend looking for a new job immediately. You can grow your business professionally and sensibly that way, without having the pressure of needing a return straight away. Good luck whatever you decide.

I'm a single mom with an autistic teenager, I know a lot about irregular income and the need to come up with money in a hurry.

First, think of it in three boxes - immediate desperate need, things you can do that will pay off in a few weeks or a few months, and things for the long term. You need to put some effort into the medium and long terms, or you'll forever be dealing with the immediate desperate need part. But the immediate needs come first.

    Immediate money:
*sell things on craigslist. Fastest cash I know of. And you KNOW you have a lot of stuff that you can let go of. Try other local boards also.
*ebay, not so good these days with stuff you have sitting around - but worth trying for stuff that didn't sell on craigslist.
*right now, gold. You'll be surprised what you have around the house. You can go out and cruise garage sales, but the pros will probably beat you to the good stuff.
*tell ALL of your friends and acquaintances about your situation and that you're looking for some immediate temp/day work that pays right away. That's how I tap into the local network of people who need an extra person for a day or a week.

plus of course the suggestions from the other great people here.

    Best - Pat

Oh man, do I hear you. I was thisclose to launching a membership site that would've promised great OTO commissions + residual income, but noooooooo I had to put everything on hold at the last second. Why? I had a fallout with my mom and ended up out of her house. (We've really never had a great relationship - lots of mental/emotional abuse and alienation - that simply patching a bandaid on wouldn't have fixed.)

While we Warriors know that IM has earthshattering income potential, don't rely on it to kick off in time to put food on the table right away.

Go to job search places like Monster, Yahoo Hotjobs and Career Builder. (My personal favorite is Monster.) Submit your resume (ResumeMaker is a GREAT timesaver - you need to personalize it a bit but it really helps you out) to these sites so employers can find you, as well as turn in your resume to job postings you're most interested in.

Get into the War Room as soon as possible. I actually managed to make some good change from Blogger without spending a dime - before I discovered Twitter, RSS, Squidoo, or backlinks. The War Room is filled with tools to make the process a lot more powerful. (Bonus: some really good WSOs are free for War Room members.)

I'm also looking at other ways to make a fair amount of cash fairly quickly, so I'll be watching this thread as well. Good luck!

    Hey Mate,

I feel your pain and am very sorry to hear. The only thing I can recommend for some quick cash is to go offline and offer your services to local businesses but at the same time look for a full time job as when you are setting up that is definitely something you want to be able to lean on.

You could do product launches, setup Aweber and squeeze page's also using your affiliate link of course. Base charges on a results basis or hourly rate. You can also add affiliate products into the add campaign if they are your own and offer the companies commission for advertising them win win. The best part for them you market is the subscriber list to which they can have for ever and consistently endure to increase and market too.

    Wish you all the best,

    Karn

To be honest with you. Find a new job, THEN focus on making money online. Start reading this forum and then if you have any questions , ask away. Bunch of people here will be happy to help you and resolve your confusion. But really, there is enough information in this forum to create a library.

Clickbank products. Find ONE product. Promote that ONE product. Sell your first product. Get paid 20 to 100 bucks. Make 25 sales a month(1 sale a day) approximately $1000 to $1500.

Sam is right. I am in the same position and whilst not laid of my prior business collapsed but my o/heads are the same. I did Lifepath which I like immensly but after 5 months and much outlay I am yet to make a cent ;-( Consultany of your skill sets sold online may be a route.

Promote new product launches that are going to have high organic search volume. Leverage the authority of Web 2.0 properties to give you some link juice. Go after affiliate programs that pay instantly via PayPal on every other sale with the Rapid Action Profits script. Write informative reviews and give great bonuses. Once you're bringing in some revenue, expand your efforts with other marketing mediums. Rinse and repeat.

Oh, and this CAN be extremely fast, given that you do the necessary work before the product launches. I've even gotten sales for a product that wasn't officially released yet, with zero advertising, just getting free traffic.
