I need some idea about niche on a domain name.

Hii warriors, I have a domain onlinemarketlinks.com. Now I want to promote a health and beauty product by creating a landing page on my website.

Is the vertical is matching to the domain name? Can I promote any offer from any niche with this domain?

Your kind feedback will be valuable to me.

Thank you!

Warm Regards
Chandan Kumar.

  • The name is generic enough to match anything, but I'd be careful about casting too wide a net. If it were me, I'd try to maintain some sort of underlying theme.

  • You can if you want, and if you do a good job with your marketing, you can and will get sales. Just think about the management though of your products and pages/directories within your site. You have to also consider how you're going to proceed with backend marketing. It's best to go into a small niche instead of being a generalist.

    • Thank you so much, Randall, I will niche down further by creating directories. Your suggestion is really helpful for me.
  • No it isn't matching at all. It's important to have the domain name and niche somewhat matching. You domain name isn't making any sense about any niche.

  • Chandan,

IMO, no, the domain name doesn't match the niche at all. As some have said . . . you certainly can use the domain name to promote any offer from any niche . . .

but really, the question is . . . will your domain be the best fit for health and beauty products?

No. The domain name is so broad, it isn't the best choice for any specific niche.

Ask yourself the question: When consumers come online looking for health or beauty products, what terms are they going to search on?

Who is going to search the phrase "online market links?" No one.

A much more profitable approach, IMO, is to have a domain name that is close to the best keyword phrases that people are going to use when they look for your products.

General, generic, wide reaching domain names are not the best way to go when you sell niche products. Be specific. Specialize.

When you try to appeal to every possible person online in your marketplace, no one will find you.

  • Yes, the main domain name is broad and unspecific. Used alone, it would be hard to hone in on a niche. That's where subdomains and folders come in,

I own one of those domains. Have since 1996. It's dormant right now, but over the last 20+ years, I've used it to promote many things, from newsletters on varying subjects to bizopps to beepers (blast from the past).

For health and beauty products, using something like example.com/skincreams or skincreams.example.com goes a long way to honing in on something more specific.

  • A domain name is a terrible thing to waste. You can always use as a directory of online Farmer's Markets or the major shopping platforms like Jet, Etsy, Alibaba, Ruby Lane, etc. Be sure to add affiliate links from each one.

You can get a new domain name for $10 or less, so if you are really inspired to a health and beauty type promotion, you would probably be better off with something more specific. You might not get a good .com, but there are other options. Here's a list of free domain name finders:

Below are FREE domain name generators
    Bust a Name.
    Shopify Business Name Generator

  • I don't think it's a good idea to use a health/beauty-related product on your domain since the product niche is out of topic on your domain. To be honest, the domain name looks spammy to me.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • you can promote whatever you want to..... but yes if its health and beauty so one can prefer having a relevant or some what similar domain name which relates you with your product. But yes if cant go for another domain, atleast you can test the same whether this is worth doing or not.

  • For choosing a domain you basically have 3 main options for marketing your website

    1. Exact Match Domain (EMD)
    2. Partial Match Domain (PMD)
    3. Brandable domain name

EMD involves using your domain name as the main keyword phrase. Such practise was used before to rank in Google. For instance, if "how to shop online" then EMD for this website would be shoppnline[.]com.
Few years ago EMD's had got lot of love from Google and such websites used to rank higher and faster. However this isn't the case anymore.

It may work against you actually. Google doesn't like EMDs and on top of that it is difficult to build your brand on the Internet with exact match domain name. So I don't recommend you to choose this option.

PMD - it is when only a part of your main keyword phrase is included in the domain name. For example, if your main keyword phrase is "weight loss program", PMD in this case could be weightlossmadness[.]com.

PMD is a good option as one of the primary advantage is that such domains are brandable. Secondly, it has the part of your main keyword phrase so that the potential visitors get an idea about your site. Last but not least, there are no chances of your site getting penalised as it doesn't exactly match your main keyword phrase.

Although brandable domains aren't related directly to the topic of your website and doesn't include any keywords in the domain so they offer a perfect option for building a brand around your website.
However see that your domain name is not confusing.

For eg: if you have a website for fitness, it's not a good idea to have a domain name purplecarpets[.]com

Your web domain falls in the same category. So better change the domain to reap benefits in future... Go for a PMD domain name...

  • Yes, you can promote anything you want on the domain. However, with the domain you own, I think the good niches suite for it are online marketing, blogging, make money online,..or sth related to it. IMO

    Good luck,

  • In my opinion, you should be more specific:

    1. Get the offer to promote
    2. Register good domain name for especially for this offer, like: offernameofficial or buyoffername or offernamesale
    3. Use ony domains with .com or .net

A good domain name allows you to increase sales by up to three times. This is the result of my experience.

  • Hi Chandran. Usually the name for domain starts with tips, secret, howto, askme etc. These are pretty common name. But I think the best is still use your own name and overtime you can build your names in online business especially when you keep posting good content in google and FB pages.
