Yes. As long as people turn to Google with their problems, there will always be opportunity waiting for those willing to solve them.

As for getting ranked at the top of search results within one day, I don't know if that story is true, and if it is, I don't know how it's done, but I do know that it isn't typical and shouldn't be expected.

Yeah, I am not sure how accurate that story actually is. One of my clients does pool tile cleaning, which is a niche inside a niche basically. We were able to launch a new site for him with only onsite SEO and he is ranking #1 for just about everything related to his business. He said his phone is ringing off the hook like it never has before. I say this to point out that it can be done without backlinking.

As far as content marketing, we absolutely believe that can make a difference in your ranking. Overnight, I doubt it. But over time, you will see a steady increase in visibility if it is done correctly. This sound like the guy built Burj Khalifa in a day. But it is possible with some complications.
The Bottom Line:
Ranking an article in a single day with a brand new site is not possible for competitive keywords. But it is possible for very very low competitive keywords. OK take it this way.

I have a site and wrote an article on SEO, It is 2000 words long and targets the keyword SEO. What do you think? Will I rank? Probably on the 40th page.

So, turn the wheel. If I write a 2000 words article on a keyword like heavy duty laging bags to buy in 2018. Probably I would be able to rank in few days.

This is easy if you think about it.

If you target a low competitive keyword. Then your chances of ranking are high. But the amount of traffic you will get from that keyword will be less. but if somehow that keyword goes trending, you will get a ton of traffic from that keyword.

Yes. I think blogging is still working if you blog for a specific group of people answering their issues and questions through your blog by targeting the search term they use in Google to find answers and solutions... and don't neglect product reviews and "best of posts"

The reason why you get conflicting stories is that, some folk talk through a hole which isn't their mouth.

Blogging will continue to work for years to come in the online world, as Google strives for informative and unique content and with that will reward people who address this correctly.

As for competing, well it's down to the niche you're in and how competitive it is, what you're writing about and the kind of demand for it both on terms of eyeballs and the person with a debit card in his hand ready to buy something.

Don't think it's possible to get to #1 on Google in one day on anything no matter how good your ad copy...seems like you need a ton of back-links/content/sharing to generate that type of momentum and it can take months unless the topic is so niche that it's almost obscure.

If you think about it, there are all of the fundamentals that you need with advantages:


A website, with articles that uses SEO.


You can link it to your social media accounts for added exposure.


You can use it to update visitors in your niche.


There are plenty of plugins free and paid to automate processes.

I'm not a fan of blogging.

If you have a blog you will have to drive traffic to it.

If you are going to drive traffic, to me it makes more sense to drive it to a squeeze page.

However, you still need some form of a site for the domain and a blog is good for such.

Just my 2 cents.

Blogging is only getting bigger and better. I have been blogging since 2010 and I can tell you right now, we are in such amazing times to get blogging.

Now with Google's RankBrain AI - the best bloggers are on the rise.

You see, blogging is all about giving your niche audience the best solutions to their problems. The more in-depth your articles are the better.

Dead are the days where a 600 words article can rank high in the search engines. The longer your article and the more unique it is the better Google rankings it will get. As simple as that.

Now, you also have to keep up with the updates from the search engines, in more particular Google.

I'm not sure if you are aware of the artificial intelligence Google now uses for ranking metrics - it is called RankBrain. And it acts as a person, a search engine engineer. It can tell whether your content is super valuable to the searcher or not.

Long tail keywords are a thing of the past now. This is because to RankBrain a bunch of similar long tail keywords all mean the same. So, it doesn't matter if you use a bunch of such keywords anymore, just focus on one main Meidum tail keyword and LSI keywords and you are good to go.

Backlinks and on-page search engine optimization are still very important but they are not the most important factors for high rankings. What is the most important is the real VALUE that you bring to the Searcher.

Remember, the number one priority for Google is their USER - their SEARCHER. They are nothing without these people.

So, if you want to rank high, what should you do?

You need to provide that Google searcher with the best content around and the best UX (user-experience). This is not rocket science!

My best bet on what you are sharing here is that this guy wrote a super helpful article for those keywords and people started clicking on the search result and stayed on the site for more than one minute and actaully engaged with the page. This tells Google and RankBrain that article is super relevant and the searcher is really satisfied, so it ranks higher regardless of backlinks and in a lot of cases even keywords.

Building your own blog is the best thing you can build for passive income online. It has been changing people's lives and increased small businesses revenues for years now. The proof is in the pudding!

And the ones who do not succeed with blogging? Well, they just don't want it bad enough to actually educate themselves and take massive consistent action (these are most likely people looking for the get-rich-quick systems). You have work your business if you want your business to work for you man! No shortcuts here!

Blogging is still going strong.

We are taking on established magazines and other publications and winning the war for readers.

And the good thing is that as far as I can tell in many niches the competition gave up after Penguin/Panda. In my main niches I've not seen that many new competitors arrive on the scene.

Choose your niche wisely though.

This year I've tried the languages niche but that seems a bust. Last year I did pretty well with clothing.

New niches appear all the time. I'm currently testing one in an extremely high value sector. This niche will be massive but I don't think anyone has considered it a niche worth blogging about.

Just because this happened to one person (maybe didn't even happen) doesn't mean this is typical or will happen again.

Blogging can still work but you need to put the work in.

Web pages can easily rank on a day or at least a few days if the keyword (s) competition is low enough.
I think the important point here is the fact that the company sells swimming pools. A fairly high cost product I assume. So to Make $1.7 million you probably don't have to sell that many pools. Therefore you number of leads from your web page can be relatively low.

This strategy does not work if you are selling a $17 ebook.

Yes you need traffic to make sales but how much you need depends of a number of factors like niche, targeting, product cost, product popularity and more.

So yes blogging works for generating leads but how you convert those leads to sales and profit is whole new story.

My personal opinion is that blogging adds credibility to any business, online or off. Even if your main talent is creating videos for YouTube, your creations should have some reference to a home site rather than a fly-by-night landing page. I am speaking of primarily to those who are concentrated in one particular niche, but even affiliates with a lot of different products can add to their reputation with a good site

If you enjoy writing or can a afford to outsource your posts, then there should not be an issue. Some posts will rank well, others will not. Your content can also be recycled on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, used for email newsletters, etc. adding to more exposure, credibility and trust.

If we compared the amount of people blogging/writing in 2009 (when I first started online) and today, you would find the numbers have increased astronomically. A lot more people are working from home, many because they believe the myth about it being easy money and you can make it fast.

The truth is that, as these numbers increase, so does your competition. This makes it harder because you either need to put more hours into it or outsource the work to somebody else and pay them money. Either way, you have to "pay."

You should choose a niche you're passionate about and then drill down to find the ideal sub-niche. If you're going to spend a lot of time and/or money, it might as well be on a topic you enjoy or are passionate about because that does make it a bit easier.

If you're put off by this simple explanation, then don't bother because you're too thin-skinned. If you go ahead, you need to drive traffic to your blog/site/landing pages. You'll have to choose the best ways to brand and market yourself so you can start building a degree of success.

Blogging works (then and now). We cannot be sure how reliable that story was but that is not impossible to happen as well. You can rank #1 overnight for your keywords for just publishing the article alone. A good content will always rank well overtime.

As for the search volume and traffic, you may have found that the keyword has low search volume that does not coincide with his traffic stats. While that may be confusing, this can happen as well. Remember, not all traffic are from those target keywords alone. The page may be ranking for "other" keywords as well.

Blogging is still a viable option in 2018 for sure.

However, it is more of a long term plan. I am an active blogger who generates traffic, leads and sales with SEO.

But it was no overnight success by no means and by blog was first a one page lead capture page that I first registered back in 2006.

I basically used that domain for a lead capture page in the beginning but eventually merged it to an HTML site and eventually a WordPress blog.

It has its scrapes and brusises (and has gotten slapped a few times).

But now it performs well.

The article pool story is definitely possible to land on spot # 1 for a highly competitive keyword with an 'authority' blog.

I'm not going to say that the story is off, but it sounds like there's more to the story.

And i'm saying that because... YOU (mikeb222) simply read the article by the guy - YOU wasn't the one who created and marketed the article.

So all you know is what you heard. This is pure speculation, this is hearsay. I'm not saying that the story is false, but ME and YOU know that marketing online is tough.

The guy's story basically sounds like "i made $20,928 in 2 days by posting 56 comments on facebook".

I would say it absolutely does without a doubt. It's not really a question of whether blogging still works or not, but rather it's the technical aspects like getting seen, driving traffic to your blog, backlinking, etc that changes. Blogging will absolutely still work as long as we keep up with the changing algorithms and the like.
