I have a question regarding List Building.
I really inderstand that the money is in the list, my question is :

Do you build ONE list per niche or do you build several ?

I haven't built any lists yet..so take this with a pinch of salt..

From my understanding, you can build main lists for each niches and then have sublists.
From the main lists you might get more responses from certain products and then you add those people into the sublists.

That way you'll have many highly targeted lists, and main larger ones.
General offers can be made to main lists..targeted or special offers can be made to sublists.

Also, have you heard of product funnels? Depending on your product funnel setup you might have several there also. (1 list feeding into another list)

It depends on how niche your niche is (if that makes sense). If you're building an Internet marketing list, then you might want to segment it a little into marketing channels (so one main IM list, then targeted lists around SEO, PPC, affiliate, etc) that way you can communicate and promote to a very targeted audience.

However, if your niche is Jellyfish Owners in Spain, then I'm not sure you'd want to get any more granular than that

I prefer to focus on my main list..

It's hard to maintain the relationship with the list, especially if our list get bigger..

So focusing on your main list and build relationship with them is the only way to make profit with them..

      And one thing,

"The money is not in the list, but in the relationship with the list"

Remember LISTS CONSIST OF REAL PEOPLE WHO NEED REAL SOLUTIONS TO THEIR PROBLEMS!
So threat them like they are your friends..

      Goodluck,
      Vaan

Hi, In my homble opinion you would like to have a list for each Nich, speacialy if your niches are lazer targeted, say if you have a niche in how to generate traffic in your Internet Marketing Nich and you have a niche in how to create your email list, as reletvie as the seem members in each may not be interested in the other (if this make sense ) so I personlay have a list for each niche and IF I have a product that can benefit all then I promote to all of my list .....
Let me know what you think....
    Regards

You just build as many lists as it's necessary.
The more targeted your list is, the better it will be for your conversion and maintaining a relationship isn't as difficult as you think.
Some lists can just be fed with preloaded emails and for ohers, you would use broadcasts.
If the broadcast you are sending concerns more than one list, then just include the other lists when you send it.
Organization is the most important aspect of our business and the more targeted is your list the better results you will achieve.
As Jeff Scott has mentioned, segmenting your list which is one level deeper than just using different list for different micro niches or promotions can boost your profit even more (like choosing people from a certain country).

    Hope I could help,

There is only one list that is important ... The buyers list .

Now if you are in the dog niche you need to break them down to like collar people , those seeking training direction, and so on. Still each one of these micro-niches needs to be put on their own buyers list when possible .

I see several saying the money is in the relationship. This is true to an extent but the money either depends on a good relationship or a constant flow of new members .

I prefer the relationship route myself but there is a lot of list builders online that make a lot of money every day with little to no relationship going on.

They simply play the numbers game .

Sometimes I think they have got it figured out better than me . Sometimes when you put all you have into a list ... they start thinking that their opinion is of utmost importance .

You can spend a lot of time trying to please everyone but yourself .

The numbers game list builder is like . " I lost 200 members today but 450 new ones took my oto".
