What to start? Need some ideas

Hello warriors

I am here after again a long day of surfing the internet for things I could potentialy do for profit. I have a lot of free time available and I want to use it to build a good business online instead of watching youtube videos for half a day.

My problem is that I dont know what to start working on. In the country I live in about $1k is enough to live a normal life. Anything above that brings extra goodies quickly.

Currently I have a full time job but I really want something more in my life. There arent many opportunities here so I have decided about online business where the potential is much bigger.

So I came here ask for some good suggestions about what could I start and offer as an online business.

    Hamptonson,

Start with your strengths as those are the things that will give you an advantage over others in whatever niche you decide to undertake. Inventory your education, life experiences, formal training, work history, hobbies, things you are passionate about, and things you do well (others would say you are very good at).

There are thousands and thousands of niches possible and the best niche for you is the one where you can provide help, guidance, and assistance to others who want to learn or experience what you know or have. Make a list of what you can give others to help them ... then do market research to verify that there is a viable market for what you are offering. (Search this forum and you will find many threads/posts on "market research" that will show you how to do it.)

Focus on things where you have an advantage, things that hold your interest and that motivate you, and things that others are profitably selling online. Don't worry if there is some competition. You can enter the marketplace and carve out your own unique niche because you are unique and different and this business is all about you and what you can give. Look for "gaps" or voids in the marketplace that aren't being filled by competitors. If you are observant and just a little creative you'll be able to come up with things you can provide your audience that will be fresh, unique, and valuable to those that follow you (those in your audience).

IMO, don't quit your day job just yet. Make that as a future goal to motivate you to get earning quickly in your new part-time business.

Others will tell you to pick this or that niche. The problem with their approach is that it doesn't take into consideration what you can do and what you like to do. Solo business online is all about you and what you can give your paying customers that is valuable to them.

The very best to you in your new journey,

    Steve

Take that statement. Trash it. Replace with:

    "do for passion."

Brainstorm what you love doing. Start there. Work with a few niches. Then you can pick a core passion and link to a pressing problem.

When you start for the right reason, with a niche you love working, and learning about, you cut years off of your learning curve.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. If you are only doing it for the money and you truly don't love doing it, you are going to burn yourself out very quick and you are not going to want to do it anymore.

What is the number one thing you absolutely love doing? Can you make a business out of it? Start there. If not, look into other niches related to what you love to do. Explore the millions of online business options out there. If you find one and you can see yourself truly loving the business, go for it!

Hey, thank you very much for the reply. I get stuck at the first part every time. Me and my friend are thinking of starting a local digital agency and online shop with wooden items. Both ideas are huge entries so I dont know if we will do anything again.

For the online store I dont know how its with the rules in the EU, what kind of certificates those items need, etc...

For digital agency the hardest part will be getting clients. Both of us are inexperienced at selling.

      As you should be.

IMO the very first thing you should concentrate on is how to drive targeted traffic. Check out Perry Marshall for training.

If you know how to drive targeted traffic then you can find ways to monetize.

      Without traffic you have nothing.

The only time "passion" should be involved in marketing is if you are running a whore-house or pushing porn.

Identify a source of hungry buyers you can tap into and sell them what they want/need.

The list of things you could do online to create an income are very long.

My recommendation, since you stated you have plenty of time to invest, start a website and blog around a group of products you can promote as an affiliate. This could be Amazon products, Clickbank products, CJ.com products or one of the many others.

Blog daily, share all over social media, invest in some good social media advertising and build a community around your website. If you provide good information, you can build up a nice business in a few months to a year, depending on how much time you invest.

  • What part of the EU are you in specifically? It would help to know a little more about your situation. What is your experience in terms of jobs and such? Also, I may be wrong, but just off the cuff I'm inclined to doubt marketing "wooden items" is the best thing to try.

No matter what you sell online, it all boils down to marketing. Marketing is marketing is marketing no matter what you sell. Learn from the search tool above to learn about internet marketing. There are alot of free materials here on the forum that you can learn from, and will give you the correct way to start selling online.

I would highly recommend you to take some time to really think about the topics you are passionate about and if you have any skills correlated with those passions.

The way to build a profitable business online is by being of genuine service to people in a specific niche. You need to do your research on the many different niches and ask yourself what type of value can you bring to them. You need to really think about this and sit down to take notes and create a plan to build a real niche business.

Once you know which niche you are going to build a business in, then you can start creating your blueprint or internet marketing plan, if you will. You need to create this plan prior to getting started. This is so important.

I would highly recommend you to invest in your education and learn about blogging and internet marketing. Build your own self-hosted blog. It will be your home online. Your blog is like your store that is open 24/7 and people can visit and buy from you at any time. This business model online has a lot of leverage.

Don't chare the money - chase the dream.

I was watching the Notorious B.I.G. movie the other day and this quote was said. It is so true that often we can get lost chasing the money and forget about the ultimate dream. You don't really want the money, what you want is the opportunities the money will get you. So, you need to focus on the right things in order to get the right outcomes.

You want to genuinely help others. Focus on being of real service to a niche audience and the money will be a by-product of all of that. If you focus on the money you will fail miserably. And I believe this is one of the main mistakes of every newbie online. They just want the money. They want to make money more than they want to help. So, everything they do online is out of an energy of Fear. If you do everything out of fear you will not get very far. You need to do everything out of love. Love for the people in your niche and truly looking to always help as much as possible.

This is the real way to building a successful business online.

Of course, there are many things you need to learn. You need to learn the technical things and the concepts. Like email marketing, and social media marketing. Just do everything with the right energy and intention and you should be good to go.

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards!

If you want to thrive into internet marketing and earn a good amount of money from it, I suggest that you dive into something that already interests you. You can be a blogger, you can sell products and services -- all of which can be under a niche that is of your interest. If you're comfortable with the niche you've chosen, this shouldn't be too difficult. -Micah

I suggest you start with affiliate marketing. You don't have to create any products, but you are learning how to market the product vendor's product. Eventually you will create your own products and you will know exactly how to market them online cost effectively.

There is a wealth of information on internet marketing and affiliate marketing on this forum. Use the search function on this forum and type in "affiliate marketing" or "Internet marketing" and read all the threads pertaining to those topics for free. Then take immediate action and start promoting your first product online. Money loves speed.

There are two kinds of passion that can drive you to success. The first is what Ryan and Freddie were talking about -- picking a subject you are passionate about and turning it into a business. The other is a passion for the process, whether it's blogging or ecommerce or selling hot dogs from a cart on the corner. You may not love hot dogs, but you do love the process of learning to choose locations, attract attention, sell an acceptable product at a profit, etc.

In a perfect world, both of these would have some overlap, and you could choose to operate in that overlapping zone.

Picking something purely for the money is a gateway drug for a full-blown addiction to Bright Shiny Object Syndrome.

I would caution you against trying to start a digital agency unless you and/or your partner have some serious skills -- and a track record -- in the area you choose to operate in. I'm virtually certain that someone will jump in and say you don't need to know anything because you can get all the skills you need on Fiverr. Problem number one is that, unless you have some skills, you have no way to evaluate your outsourcer other than easily-faked reviews. Problem number two is an ethical problem -- you're playing with someone else's money and potentially their livelihood.

What happens if you sell an SEO package, say, and your Fiverr outsourcer gets your client banned from Google?

Hi, one of the most important things you can do is educate yourself as much as possible on one particular aspect of IM. Affiliate marketing for example, there is plenty of free and valuable information on this forum.

Stick to one thing and master it. Whatever you do when you hit a hurdle don't be tempted to ditch what you are doing and move on the next fad.

So long as you understand that it will take time and there will be a few bumps in the road then you will get there in the end.

As has been mentioned , in simple terms it really just boils down to targeted traffic and an offer, this could be a youtube channel directing visitors to a page or an instagram account sending followers to the same page or offer.

It will take some trial and error.

    Good luck.

What are your passions / hobbies? Follow through with a niche you are interested in and build a business around it. If you are passionate about the business it will never feel like work.

You may want to do something that gives you fairly quick success. Creating classes for Skillshare could be something to try. I would recommend that you signup to their free 2 months and check out classes about making money with skillshare by Howard Lynch. Skillshare may not produce a lot of money but at least you may earn something within your first 30 days (without spending extra money). That may be good for the motivation or for proof that it is possible to earn online.

What ever online avenue you travel, it's all about building your list so you have people to help and market to.

I agree that finding a "niche" is one way to go, but I believe following systems is what will bring success!

Do you know how to start building a list and what to do with it? That is a great starting point!

Best of luck as I know how hard it can be to get started .

    Follow your passion/something that interests
you. (This is really "simple" advice however it
makes a World of difference ...)

As someone put it another way:

"Follow your bliss." And to take it another step
further ... Follow your bliss -- and that also
includes really helping People/your Market in
    some way.
