Just google "Press release services" there are many out there. Then just research to find the one that meets you needs, and budget

prweb.com is probably the most well known in the industry

No, he's asking us to research for him.

Most of the time, the best place to broadcast your news release is to a list you've compiled yourself.

For example, over on the Copywriting section, you'll find a post about a release to promote a local event. Broadcasting that release globally would be a waste of resources, because most of the outlets that received it would be well outside the geographic area such an event would be likely to draw from. Much better to compile a list of local media, with correct person to address the release to by name and title.

On a broader scale, if you have a new product for, say, the health industry, sending your release to outlets that cover tech gadgets would be a waste (unless there was plausible overlap).

Back before Google caught on to their shenanigans, spammers would pepper the online PR sites with keyword loaded garbage in the search for quality links with no work. Most such links are nofollow these days, and thus worth almost nothing for SEO. And the sites that are worth using tend to cost money.

So the best place to broadcast an official news release is to a hand-picked list of media outlets who might agree that the contents of the release are actually news. If it's basically just an ad, start with the marketing or advertising department...

Don't some of the broadcast services like PrWeb or PrLog give you the ability to filter to local sources?

Also, is it best practice to post your news release on your website THEN submit to distribution services/news sources, or, wait until it gets out there then just put an announcement on your website with an excerpt, and then link to the PR on the most prominent news site?

Even if they do, the releases still come in under a generic address, sent to whatever email the outlet uses to collect releases. It's far more powerful to be able to direct your news to the proper person, by name and title, than end up in the slush file waiting for someone to pick through it.

Post the complete release on your website, then submit it to whichever services you happen to use. Make sure there's a link to your release, especially if you have additional assets like images or backgrounders on any people quoted in the release. If it's a blog and you're quoting the blogger, link to the about page from your release page.

  • I would distribute via PRweb, and Presswire. And also on any relevant news sites or services within your niche.
