Always go for non-hypehnated domain names first. They will always be of more value because you do not want 'special' characters. A-Z is the best if possible.

    Russ,
    Have a look
best car reviews - Google Search

Do you see a single domain with "-" ?

A domain without dashes is good for SEO as compared to same name with dashes, this is my understanding, although which one will rank higher
totally depends on how much work you put into it, i.e, back links and on page optimization..

I think dashed domains are easier to read though

Don't know the date of this article, but from all the reports, books and PDF's I've read over just the last few months, I've still not heard a 'definitive' answer regarding the use of 'dashes' in ones domain name and whether it HELPS or hurts when it comes to pure SEO 'love' from the search engines.

Personally speaking though, I would, as my first option, go with NO DASHES with a 'dot-com' domain. If that one was taken, then what's better..

      online-car-reviews.com or onlinecarreviews.net ????

    Hi russell,

bestcarreviews.com --> Of course this is the domain you must choose..

Like rahull said, The domain without dashes good for SEO and also it have high value on google,

Real Case Example --> if you own that one and you compete with others that has same domain name as yours but have a dashes with it, of course you are the WINNER!

Hope you understand all explained here

    Cheers,
    Vaan

Yep, the one without the hypens would probably be best.

I'm not sure if Google penalise you for having a hyphenated name (I personally think they would a bit, but it's never been confirmed nor denied - is just me guessing), although Humans certainly aren't too fond of hyphenated domains.

If it was me, I'd prefer to click ads/spend money on a site with domain (say) BestCarReviews.com instead of Best-Car-Reviews.com - the second just doesn't look right to me.

There's no reason for Google to penalize for hyphens. Their spiders and/or indexing software can easily read the domain and ignore the hyphens.

People use them all the time in the post title part of their URLs with great success. Our own Warrior Forum's software inserts hyphens into the URL and some WF posts get indexed and ranked number one for various keywords.

I do think the non-hyphenated domain names look the best aesthetically, though. A bunch of hyphens not only needlessly lengthens a domain name, but I think clutters it. Plus, it makes hand typing the name into an address bar a pain.

I buy domains that will potentially have value to the new owners since I sell sites. It is much more difficult to unload a hyphenated domain. I've sold some domains for as much as $900 for the domain only. With hyphens, I wouldn't have gotten a nickel.
