How to Promote an App

It's the same way you promote anything else. Submit to Google Play and iTunes obviously, and other sites like them.... and then you standard online marketing strategies to get recurring traffic to your site. You may want to use paid advertising to speed up the process. If you have alot of competitors promoting similar apps, consider a different niche to be in.

I've met many app entrepreneurs who have made it in the app world without spending a penny on promoting their app. And I've known entrepreneurs who've earned more than a million dollars selling their app, largely promoting it for free.

If you can't manually recruit customers or don't have tremendous customer referrals, you need to generate a lot of buzz on social media.

In my experience, it does not make sense to pay advertising dollars at first. You should know that the cost of a customer acquisition is never lower than the price of the app. I can offer you hundreds of tips, but following promotional tactics will help you get started.

(a) Build a microsite that has one or two-pager showcases your app to the web audience. Take cues from Snapchat and Path.

(b) Build a teaser website one or two month before your launch to collect email addresses of people who would like to know when the app launches.

(c) Start a blog and attach it to your microsite. Write interesting content that will draw people to your website.

(d) Share your content in your Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn profiles several times in a week.
