How/where to promote...

Hi fellow warriors. This is a quick post about looking for markets to promote high vis safety wear. Specifically high visibility vests.

Further the design on the top is based on New Zealand Maori traditional artwork. The tops are fully certified for day wear on site.

My question is; what ideas are there for promoting these to overseas markets. what would be a good approach. Would it better to use targeted marketing or promote to the general market?

If you had to where would you promote items like these?

Your input valuable and appreciated.

Leave a comment as I would like the chance to reciprocate your good ideas.

    Rockerjaw,

In my experience, it's almost always better to market to very specific targeted groups than to try to promote things to everyone (as you call it - the general market). General promotion is best left to huge companies with massive marketing budgets and familiar brands. You are not going to compete with them ... so stick to segmented specialized marketing.

Start by identifying your perfect customers. Surely there are specific and well-defined groups of people that could receive the most benefit from your product. I would go after these groups to start with. Go after those who would consider purchasing your product as a "no-brainer" solution to a need they have.

      This. Squared.

Even though there are many groups that could benefit from designer safety vests, you need to target them individually.

For example, you might find interest from serious bicyclists, parents of kids who walk or ride bikes to school, crossing guards, etc, each needs to be addressed with specific language and benefits. Try to use one promotion to address them all, and you appeal to none.

Beautiful advice John. It really makes me think about other types of avenues that could be targeted. Thank you.

Dear Steve, Thank you for the reply. What Im hearing is to stick to targeted marketing. Start my selecting the group that would purchase the solution: i.e its an obvious choice to a problem their experiencing. Start with them see how that goes and then begin to target other niche markets.

Try contacting the retailers and distributors of safety products. Blackwoods in Australia springs to mind. https://www.protectoralsafe.com.au

There is a large Kiwi population in Australia and they are very patriotic so it makes sense to get it in front of that audience.

Contact these guys and send them some free samples.

Tree Lopping Serving Brisbane and the Gold Coastâ"‚Kiwi Tree Lopping

They are out there in public view and just maybe they might get some low cost exposure for you. There would be several other similar business operations that could not only purchase but promote your brand through exposure.

Send some to the various football teams who often wear different vests at different times during training. You might just get some PR if the right photographer or journalist happens to notice. Most of the ARL and ARU teams would have NZ or Islander players who would potentially help boost exposure.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

Hi! I would focus on Pinterest.com (sign up for a business account). You create boards for free with images that can link back to your products.

The important thing is to also pin other people´s stuff, not just your own. You can create beautiful images for free using a service called Canva.com.

You can really get a lot of traffic using Pinterest. Best of all, you are not dependent on any SEO stuff.

Another site you should look into is Quora.com. Create a profile and start answering questions about your topic. You will get highly targeted traffic quickly.

    Hope this helps!

If you're on a limited budget and want to go down the free route (which can be time consuming) then, I'd go with the following and in this order.

    Quora (Yahoo Answers on steroids)
    Relevant Facebook Groups
    " " " " Google Communities

For the paid route (which can be tricky) then, I do go with the following and in this order.

Facebook Ads (less expensive than Google)
Google Ads (Expensive, but more productive than Facebook)

All the best in what route to market you take
