Passive income from affiliate is not correct?

I am starting with Amazon Affiliate Marketing. I am worried that the income in fact is not "passive" anymore. To run an Amazon Affiliate site, it's required a lot of effort, time, and money. So, I don't believe we can earn passive income from affiliate, it's actually active income.
Any ideas?

    First, it never was "passive" income, you always had to DO something. Your belief is right on, you can't earn passive income from your Amazon Affiliate Marketing efforts, especially if there isn't any effort.

    What ideas are you seeking? Any affiliate program is going to require you to DO and participate. If you want real passive income, buy some land with a working gas well on it and collect the monthly income.

    NO way to get passive income from a start-up affiliate effort.

    There are a lot of affiliate programs you dont need to pay to become an affiliate.

    Hi AM 101,

    You do the legwork to build a foundation: what you mention.

    Then when you are asleep - or busing across New Zealand as I am now - people buy my eBooks and yep, I'm an Associate too so earn some of the affiliate side too. Income appears to be passive and in a way, it is. I did not need to sit here for an hour and offer services; not trading time for money.

    Active work charged with the right energy helps you enjoy life while money flows in; very different than a service based model.

    You can join affiliate programs which have recurring commissions
    rather than promoting one off sales. It takes the same effort to do
    either.

    Make sure you build an email list or send prospects to an affiliate
    program with residual income so that you make the most of all
    your leads.

    It still requires work and a proper system.

    True passive income doesn't exist in internet marketing.

    If there is any work required, then it's not true passive income.

    Over the past few years, it's been turned into a buzz word and it's definition modified by marketers that you can do X amount of work up front and then somehow it will then turn into automated income that you no longer have to work for or will only require minimal work. Which for the average person neither is very likely, especially long term.

    If you are selling products with one time offer which you could earn per sale, yes that's an active income. But, if you are promoting products that has a recurring commission, that is a passive income.

    Many of our websites are "passive" income, in the sense that they do not require any work from us after they are already running strong - and ours are traditional eCommerce site, not affiliate ones.

    Any type of site can become passive income after you have put all of the work in, getting it ranked well and/or setting up profitable advertising campaigns. Even if there is additional work involved, placing orders with suppliers or handling customer service, people can be hired to do those things so that all you really need to do is sit back and collect the money.

    Thinking that there is no work involved before getting to that point is a pipe dream, however. We have quite a few sites that earn substantial income where we no longer play any active role. They took years to get to that point most of the time, though.

    A business with more potential "passive" income is creating your own product and having affiliates promote it...this is as close as you will get.

    I prefer to think of this as "leveraged" income - you work once and benefit over and over again...ideally you reach a point where you build multiple products where you can leverage the traffic from affiliates, paid ads, organic content and then be paid multiple times as you offer valuable products either as one-time offers or recurring billing.
