Anyone in the Recipe niche? Do you blog or just own a database?

I was noticing a lot of sites for sale in the recipe niche and after doing some keyword research it seems to be wide open. I was wondering if anyone here has had any luck with it or not. And are there any good affiliate programs out there for this niche?

I am thinking of creating a blog with this niche including the database of recipes and wanted to get everyones input on it before I jumped in.

    I have a website in the recipe niche and it is a complete waste of my time.

    sure I sell a couple of ebooks each week and have some small adsense income but this is nothing in relation to the effort I have put in

      Yes, I have spent tooooo much time trying to make my recipe site work. Lots of clicks, but most things can be caught off the net. Even though mine is a niche, still there are recipes out there I guess. I will keep on plugging along, just because I like the recipes!

    Willie Crawford made a killing in this niche, I remember him talking about it one day about how he got his start. He made a killing with a "soul food" recipe site. I actually went and dug it up. Here's an example of someone who did very well in the recipe niche:

    I have been researching the Cookbook/Recipe niche for the past few weeks, myself. I have some great family recipes, have a sister and a cousin who are pastry chefs and a friend who is the head chef at a popular restuarant. I thought with their imput, interviews, etc, I could make a go of it.

    The problem seems to be that there are so many websites where you can download FREE recipes (does the "The Food Network" ring a bell?)

    So I am re-thinking the website idea, but I may still do a cookbook of my favorite really special recipes and try to market that.

    NOTE: To those who posted that they have a recipe website, let me give you one of my brainstorms (I get a lot of those) ...

    What would happen if you posted to your visitors that you were having a contest? These visitors are to send in their very favorite/best recipe. Make sure they include their name & City and State they live in, because the best of the best will be included in a new cookbook that you will be publishing. The winning recipes will be listed with the name (and place of origin) of the person who contributed each recipe. AND the folks who submitted a winning recipes will receive a free copy (digital) of the book. You can have a print-on-demand service do a physical version which you will successfully market for immediate profit.

    Imagine the pride these people will feel (and the orders they send you for the physical book) as they tell their friends... "I'm a published author, Look there on page 36, see?" They will want to buy multiple copies for their friends... you get the idea.

    That's a million dollar idea! (well, at least a couple thousand) .

    There! I've spilled the beans...Take it and run with it!

    I've been in the recipe niche since 2003 and I've made a living at it. Here's a few affiliate products which sell really well in that niche because they have a unique angle:

    You can also get cheap traffic for the recipe niche and promote more lucrative weightloss related products like this one:

    I have a recipe blog and use cb recipe ebook ads on it as well as some banners and adsense. Lots of views and traffic and Adsense clicks but no sales. The site does alright on Adsense and gets lots of traffic but that's about it so far. I agree with the other poster. So many sites are free I think you'd need a really unique angle. Where I have included links to videos on other sites from adapted recipes I am getting a lot of clicks.

      Is a recipe copyrighted? I was wondering about this as I was looking at a few unusual recipes in a published book. All those recipes on the net, some have to be duplicates. Does anyone know the ins and outs of recipe copyright?

        I would think that if a recipe could be copywriten, people wouldn't be able to pass them around among their friends. Just list the ingredients, rewrite the directions in your own words, and give them a different name.
