I would recommend finding excellent keywords and going forward with half your budget on Google Adwords then the other half use on Bing Ads.

If you're dead set on the HVAC service, I would head over to upwork and hire a professional who has experience running paid ads and help you manage your budget.

Local SEO is often easy against competition that doesn't understand SEO.

I would build a landing page to collect leads and run ads to it and aggressively follow up with the leads via phone, put 3k into building the right system and you can have leads for life.

You can't get free traffic from Google, so go and use Google AdWords

With adwords be careful my friend. Thats the kind of niche that can really see prices skyrocket. For SEo there are still quite a few long tail keywords that you can rank well for in local results. A lot of small businesses (and their SEOs don't know how to effectively use geographic relevancy)

For HVAC service, it's local business, try to run Google adwords and local Seo with many positive reviews on local Google maps.

How many existing clients have maintenance contracts?

You may like to look internally for the most leverage of the budget you have to work with.

Generating new business is one thing but selling/adding services to existing customers is easy and a cost effective way of adding profit to the bottom line.

Also take a look at what has been spent on promotion that hasn't worked.

It's just a random number fella and in the wrongs hands would be useless.

Some folk on this platform could make a success from 1/10th of that, whilst
others would easily squander the lot without even coming up for air.

My point is that, if you have a successful route to market then, having a certain
amount of money doesn't really matter, as you have a mindset which is set for
for success. You'll always find a way to get were you want to be.

Personally, it is all about testing. I would divide the money between Bing Ads, Adwords, and Facebook Ads to see which one converts better or sends the most traffic to my website. Maybe start with $100 per day on each platform and see where it takes you.

Whatever mix you decide to go with, go slowly. Don't commit the whole wad trying to make a big splash. As others have noted, it's way too easy to blow through your entire budget before you figure out your winning combination.

Start with the website optimization, especially the message to market match. Is this service mainly for homeowners or commercial installations? High end or low end? No right or wrong answers, as long as you know the answers and match your messaging to them.

For a local business, don't neglect news releases to local media. Is there a local lifestyle magazine? Many of these have online editions, and if you can place an article in one of these (usually by buying an ad -- these mags make no pretense of journalism), you can have the best of both worlds.

Are there local events you can participate in? Things like Home Shows held at the local auditorium, where having a booth is a great excuse to target local homeowners with ads and retargeting. Or a Chamber of Commerce event where you can introduce yourself to local businesses if commercial HVAC is your thing.

You need to look for both ROI and ROTI (Return On Investment and Return On Time Invested, respectively).

Getting organic traffic should be target for longer run rather paid ads in shorter run. You may split some of your budget to improve SERP through social media & SEO. Getting dedicated pages for HVAC services like HVAC, residential, commercial, AMCs, Appliance & refrigeration, heating, AC repair & installation etc. and then local city / state based pages along with regular & frequent blog posts about your industry will give a win-win situation with least expenditure. You might get lots of leads / calls if you get high SERP on search engines for better calculated keywords and local key-phrases. You might think to hire a pay on performance model plumber marketing SEO for this.

Optimize keywords on page SEO. Then create a google my business page explaining who you are? What benefits you offer? and What's makes your company different from others.

Credibility- Show potential clients case studies of past work. Use testimonials to get you message across.

You must create professional website content that grab the readers attention, displays benefits, and a call to action.

Now you can start advertising your website.

Do as if you don't have as much money (Example act as if you only have $1000). It may help you decide better on how to spend. You may refer to the book The Power of Broke by Daymond John for more perspective on what I am trying to refer to.

Here's what I've seen work in the first year of my buddy's business. First and foremost, establish a Google Places listing. You want to show up when your local customers are searching for HVAC. Next focus on getting reviews on your Google Places listing. Aim for a solid 50 reviews. Ask your customers to help you out by leaving a review after every service. Follow it up with an email to them with a direct link on how to leave a review. If you're inclined, offer them an incentive for doing so. Something like x% off your next visit. As reviews come in, you'll stand out in the search results. Not sure what you should do with the $5000 lol... If you need a custom mobile app, I'd be the guy to call on

1. First, make sure that your site is ready for conversion, i.e. it has some reviews and testimonials that would help visitors take your desired action (Buy or Call for more information, what have you..). No amount of Ad budget would help with an uninspiring website.

2. Once you have site ready, consider hiring someone on Upwork to optimize your site for local and onsite SEO. You can also do it yourself using Wordpress and a plugin like Yoast. Yoast also has a Local SEO plugin.

3. Once that's done, I'd split rest of my budget, into long-term organic as well as paid traffic. For organic, you can write some good content based on most relevant keywords (local SEO KWs are mostly long-tail). For paid, I'd first figure out where my customers hang out -- i.e. boards, forums, groups etc.. If it's just google, then you can run an Adwords.

4. In my experience, you can hire a capable SEO based out of US for about $1K a month who can help build backlinks which would ensure your long-term success. Generally an SEO campaign, obviously depending on the KW competition, can last anywhere from 4-8 months.

Your $5K budget can go a long way if you plan and use it wisely. Good luck.

Adwords, Bing Ads, and Facebook are a great start. Be sure to include Google Places as a part of the marketing plan, and also checkout the "offline marketing" section of this forum for great ideas too.

As others have said, don't blow the $5000 all at once. Find something that works, and just like a website... offer something for free (like a simple free report/ebook) - and make sure there's a form on the HVAC website where you can collect and followup on leads.

I run Adwords for HVAC in the UK. Adwords all day long, fulfil the existing demand first.

Adwords, specifically the Call Only campaigns. Those are excellent if you can get the keywords right. Most of our local clients like when we run Call Only, as the lead quality tends to be much better for their dollar. Just my recommendation. I would go with Adwords no matter what.

HVAC is a local business. I would not spend any of that 5k on the internet at all. There are many things you can do on your own for free. As someone mentioned make sure you are on google places. A facebook page is free, As well as many of the social platforms.

Your money would be better spent locally.

Although, you could spend a little on SEO but you do not need much because you will be doing local SEO

I don't know much about this niche, but here's what I know... this is a broad appeal problem, and I see over 40s your target market.

Although I've already answered it, I'd like to get your feedback.

What is your age target market?
Are you running this in US?
What is your expected average order value? (This question is important because the higher the order value makes it tougher to convert or more money to spend on Google, FB.
Does it require a personal visit or can you provide a DIY guide for them to do it?

If I would assume the answers. I think your best option would be newspaper space ad. You can go about this in 2 ways: (1) Run a quarter size ad out of your region to generate leads to offer them a free ebook and sell them your service. (2) within your region sell your service in a 1/2 page ad and have them call you for a free quote and then you can sell your best package over the phone.

It will take some thinking to put it together, but once you have it, the sales will be rocking and I sure your average order value will kill online sales.

I currently do 1/2 ads ads direct sale which still works.

Two suggestions among many that you could try:

1- Begin by setting up your list building system so you can collect leads (regardless of where they come from). Obviously, you want to be able to get in front of homeowners or business owners (depending upon your focus) and be able to market to them now and in the future.

2- It's fairly easy to figure out where your top local and regional competitors are getting their traffic and leads. Use the Internet as a way to research your competition and see what they are already doing successfully. Similarweb and other such sites will help you.

I would suggest you guard your cash and not look for ways to spend it on paid advertising until you know exactly what you are doing.

Paid promotion can be a treacherous black hole for the newbie (to that type of advertising). First learn about the demographics and characteristics of your exact audience and (potentially) your very best customers. Find out where you can find them and how best to approach them.

Adwords and Facebook may not be the best alternatives for your service. Find out what is before you pull out your wallet!

MOFU content. Don't waste your money on Top of the Funnel ads because they drive traffic. Middle of the Funnel content drive marketable leads that you can turn into a great lead list.

Just find a way to get interested leads. It's the hardest part of starting a new company.

Build an email list doing "ghetto test": i mean, put a fb ads OR a google adwords ads and see if they perform weell, asking for email for early bird discount.

So you can check if u have a market AND build a potential customers list too.
