Looking To Start A New Business? Here's An Idea...

Here it is in a nutshell: start a service that converts
ebooks to Kindle format.

I spent the last several days learning how to convert
one of my ebooks to Kindle and just uploaded it to
Amazon.com today.

It is not really that difficult, but there are a few steps
to learn and it is time-consuming.

As I was researching how to do it, I ran across just a
couple of services out there that provide this service
(and it's not cheap!)

I may have missed it, but I didn't see any services
like this being advertised in the Warriors for Hire
section. It seems to me that fellow Warriors might
make up a great target market for this service.

I've got too many irons in the fire right now, but
thought someone out there might just want to
jump on this. You might even be able to out-source
the work itself.

Your thoughts?

An update for those of you thinking about
        selling on Kindle...

I uploaded my first offering to Amazon's Digital
        Text Platform (http://dtp.amazon.com) on
Tuesday, 13 Oct, and it is now live 2 days later.

        So far so good

Brian, you can only sell ebooks for kindle if you are a US citizen right? Also, if i am not mistaken, doesn't mobipocket creator convert pdf to kindle format FREE?

      Jay,

My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong!)
is that you must have a US bank account and a Social
      Security number.

I'm not familiar with mobipocket. But I do know that you
can convert pdf's and word docs for free at the amazon
dtp site. The problem I experienced is that the formatting
gets messed up and you still need to manually clean it up.
(Hence my idea for a business converting ebooks to Kindle)

        Hey everyone,

We're a Canadian business and recently set up an account to sell kindle books. If I'm not mistaken, Amazon will only deposit funds into a US account. However, they will cut a cheque and mail once your commissions total over $100

        Cheers,

        Guy

P.S. There will be withholding taxes, but I think there's some paperwork you can fill out to have them waived???

Brian, why don't you write a step by step tutorial of the conversion process and offer it as a wso? I'd definitely buy it!

      Jay,

      I don't have a Kindle either (yet)!

The amazon dtp site has an online-viewer that lets
you check how your book would look on Kindle.

Even so, I've asked my sister (who does own a
Kindle) to check out my book and let me know how
      the formatting looks to her.

Thanks Brian, i found something to view it with, and i see what you mean! The document would still need formatting to look decent on a kindle, and not just messy..hmm..

    Hi,

I have also uploaded a document to Kindle though it has been a while, it's not hard to do. As a matter of fact I was planning on uploading another book, but I'm writing a report right now. Hmm, I should finish said report then look to offer my services, or write a report

PS. I have a Kindle they are fabulous especially if you are traveling.

PSS. Wow, I just noticed the date when this thread was started, still it could work!
