Are "all" of these plugins necessary, and if not, which ones should I *remove*?

Depends what functions you need, but as a general rule it's best to keep plugins at a minimum. The more plugins, the more potential exploits that could arise for people to target.

Yeah... and activate akismet - very useful :-) and do a good blog too!

I have a few others... but as it was said it depends on what you plan to do with your blog, how you run it and what's the purpose of it.

Depends why you wanted them in the first place. I have a blog hosted with godaddy and have removed some as performance was poor, on the other hand I have blogs with hostgator and no performance issues. If they slow your site down you will lose custom, so dump the ones you don't need. BTW, anyone else experiences slow response time with godaddy?

Hey everybody, since I want to use my website as more of a "site" instead of a *blog*, which plugins would y'all recommend I delete from my list? Would I need "Askimet" since I don't plan on users commenting on my site?

I agree with a few of the others - keep plugins to a minimum.

Every extra plugin is an extra possibility for something to go wrong, particularly at WordPress upgrade times.

Another risk is that the plugin author stops supporting it - again, problems at upgrade time.

Some plugins definitely slow performance - they're generally ones that have to access other sites for information to do their job - like Share This, or Related Sites plugins, for example.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

I got to the stage where I was suffering from a disease called "pluginitis" , where I was constantly looking around for for the next great plugin.

I had dozens installed and they were causing me a lot of hassle. I ended up uninstalling all but a handful and started concentrating on good content. The result was my traffic improved massively and running the site was so much easier too. I now run a minimalist set up.

I think I've ALSO suffered a similar disease

How many plugins do you need before its considered a security risk? LOL
And if you have plugins installed but not activated - is this also a security risk?
