Best way to source experts to interview for podcasts?

Hey Fellow Warriors,

I'm still fairly new in the IM industry and getting my head around all the different methods for driving traffic. I recently figured out how to start podcasting, and now its time to develop some contacts to interview (keeping within the theme of my blog - opportunities to make $50k in 365 days).

What are some of the best ways to source experts and approach them?
Should I be using Skype for all my interviews?
I've downloaded a program called PowerGramo - is this the program to use for skype recording?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Podcasting is definitely a great extra traffic method that more people should use in their arsenal.
The quality of PowerGramo is a very nice fit if you want to do interviews using Skype.

Just a tip: I would get a little bit more specific when you say you want to interview experts
"within the theme of my blog - opportunities to make $50k in 365 days."
Do you mean making $50k in Real-Estate, Internet Marketing, Fly Fishing?

Try to clarify more what your theme is. Then you can narrow it down to the appropriate keywords and niche that describes what you do.

    For example:
Instead of describing your theme as
"opportunities to make $50k in 365 days."
You can now say "Opportunities to make $50k in 365 days doing Fly Fishing!" or whatever you have narrowed down and determined your keywords/niche to be.

    Some more examples:

    - Opportunities to make $50k in 365 days with Real Estate!
    - Opportunities to make $50k in 365 days in Internet Marketing!

    Finding some experts:
Now that you have identified your keywords or niche - Just go to Google and do a search for:

    (your keyword/niche) expert

This should return to you a nice list of experts that you could contact to do interviews.
You could also search blogs and forums for your particular niche and find experts there as well.

    Some advice about approaching experts:
Starting off - You may want to consider approaching people in your local area to do interviews. They may not be people in your particular niche but it would benefit you in the following ways:

    • It will help you to develop you interview skills.
    • They will be easier to approach and even delighted that you wanted to interview them.

After you have a few interviews under your belt - Now you can begin to approach the experts that fit your theme. By this time you will also have some examples of your work so that they can take you seriously when you approach them.

Remember that peoples' time is important and if they see that you are trying to do something positive then they are more likely to help you out more so than not.

    --->
Now go out there and Start Interviewing!

What are some of the best ways to source experts and approach them?
The two best ways are these:

1)Go to Amazon and find book authors who seem to have the expertise you're looking for. Book authors are always looking for promotional avenues and don't usually care that someone is a beginner interviewer, because all publicity is good publicity as long as they're able to mention their latest book. Don't be shy about approaching "famous" authors like Joe Vitale, Yanik Silver, etc. Chances are more than 50% that they'll say yes.

2)Put a (free) request on Help a Reporter Out (HARO - Help a Reporter Out (TM)). Be very clear there about who you are looking for and what information you want people to provide in their reply. This will bring less well-known case study candidates out of the woodwork.

      Good luck,

I did this a few years back now but here's how I had a hot selling product on ebay all from getting an 'expert' to talk to me. I simply searched online news items, websites, newspapers, trade magazines and ezines to see who people were refering to. Sometimes it becomes obvious quickly if there are a handful of 'experts' in your niche. Then I just emailed about half a dozen of them introducing myself and basically playing to their ego's by saying that I can see they're an expert in *niche* and I'd love such an expert to tell me how they became successful in *niche*.
That's how I did it. I'm sure there may be quicker and maybe better ways now. Good luck.

      I don't know what your niche is but try this;

      RTIR

When approaching an expert I always explain what I'm doing and how their knowledge can help.

I also offer them a copy of the interview and remember you might get a few nos before you get a yes.
