Owning a website gives you control over the content.

With a blog hosted on someone else's website, you have no control. They can shut down at any time.

For example, thousands of people used to post articles to Squidoo.com to get traffic from Google. Then one day the entire site shut down, and all that hard work went to waste.

Don't abandon your website. You can do a lot more when you have your own domain and website. You can blog on your own website and customize it to fit your ow needs.

When you blog on someone else's website, you're restricted by their rules and limited to their features. Once your business grows, it's be harder to move your traffic to your own site.

A website is the identity of your business or work and your can do lots on it.

If you have a website, It shows that you are serious about your work.

As the saying goes.
'All apples are fruits but not all fruits are apples.'

Similarly,
'All blogs are websites but not all websites are blogs.'

I use blogger. I love it. I also have a domain name forward on my blog. I also own a few other domains and have HTML websites on them in different niches.
One strategy that I like to use has a really good resource on the HTML domain along with affiliate links attached to 'em and blog about relevant topics including a link to my property for more information. This is a really good strategy if you use WordPress.com as your blog platform instead of a self-hosted WP blog on your own domain.

I have been using blogger for the better part of 2 years and had no problems with being banned or anything of that sort but you do need to be mindful of their rules.

If you are talking about free platforms like blogger, it is not safe as you do not have all control over it. It can be erased completely on minor violation by Google.

People are generally "trust" more for something on paid things rather than free things. Paid is normally coming with "professionism".

There's nothing wrong with a blog. It's a quick and easy way to get website development done. Most Wordpress installations are point-and-click. You dont have to stick with Blogger (google owned). Also, there's nothing wrong with a website. What's the problem with either of them if you're not making money anyway?

Whatever platform you choose is up to you. Free platforms often come with restrictions, sponsored advertising (not your own), and the uncertainty of the company behind the service. And yes, buyers are more likely to take you and your business seriously if you have your own hosted site and registered domain.

WordPress is often suggested if you want to blog. The advantages include fast, easy set up, millions of themes for every purpose (many free), great community of users if you need help, many free tutorials, and lots of plug-ins that will add functionality to your site.

Here's a secret: WordPress is a good choice for a web site even if you don't plan to blog! It's a nice content management alternative that you can sell from and do just about anything else you want (membership site, directory site, consulting site, graphics/artwork site, etc). There are so many themes and plug-ins for Wordpress and you don't need to know HTML or other "technical" skills to be good at it!

Just one other observation about your posts in this thread. You don't need to take a year to do anything in online business. Get your site going, get some content on it, and set up your email list building system.

Don't wait to begin business until everything is perfect. Set a goal to open your site in two weeks - that's plenty of time to prepare to get started. Build a list, create products, begin affiliate marketing, or whatever you plan to do starting now. A year from now you'll be way ahead - time is a very precious asset you have.

Blogs: With blogs you get new content on a regular basis. Also, you get to read new things in a simpler language.

Coming to websites.
Websites: Majorly the main content remains the same on a website. Also, you get a very formal and straight forward content here.

To conclude, if you like to stay in touch with new content, blogs can help you to a large extent instead of a website.

Having your own website means:

- You build an asset (if it's monetized properly its value increases over time)
- You have more control over all the files/images/videos..basically all your hard work
- You'll be seen with different eyes by your competitors, you can become an authority in your niche

Generally, websites have three types:-

Informatic
Static
E-commerce

Informatic -

In this type user only add data for information purpose of a company like an address of company, contact detail, about us for the company. You can't change information on regular basis. For example see Official Websites of any Company.

Static Website -

In this type, the user can change the data when they want. Static website is free to edit like for example Facebook (social websites), Blog, photo sharing websites, personal websites etc.

E-commerce -

We all know about this segment. Just see Flipkart, Amazon, or Snapdeal etc.

Website means digital identification of any company, community or organizer. So blog is also a part of a website.

i think the free websites will be good ! BUT we can't ad google or somethings if we haven't a strong web.

But Steve B's right about Wordpress. It can work whether or not you want to blog or have a business website. It's quite user-friendly and provides you with a lot of options. Still outsourced to a developer to save me time though, but the point still stands.

There are many limitations of having a free blog like one on blogger.com. Biggest problem is that they can delete your blog any tie for even small violations.

Websites have their own space. Especially if you have a product/service for sale. It is just that WordPress can do both blog and website.

Website increase value of your brand. You can control everything in your website whatever you want. There is no restriction and terms or conditions.

As it has been pointed out, you may have more control when you host your own site. It could also be added that building your own website may also mean that it does not have unnecessary coding. Thus it may load faster on mobile phones. In terms of customization too, you may have more freedom as far as what you want a site to be able to do, when you host it yourself.

Blog is not beneficial as the website, One of the big thing is that we have buy the plans for blog submission in the other websites, so it's better to create website and also add blogs in it.

You can also sell your website and recoup the full value of the domain, something you can't do on a hosted platform.

well, Blog is also a good option for sure, but yes if you have your own websites, content should be yours and you have a full control on that. while it may be possible that in blog section, it should be some external sites. if there are any problem with that sites, definitely it affects your blog content too.

That is not the right question you should ask if I may be blunt.

The correct question you should ask is -

Why should I pay for domains and web hosting when I can do everything on a blog for free?

Like Blogger, Wordpress or Wix just to name a few examples.

The question is like

Why should I pay for my office / shop / restaurant rent when I can have a free roadside stall?

My answer is simple.

When you have a domain and hosting, you have the rights to own your website in terms of creating how you want your site or blog to look, adding /editing / updating content and most importantly be able to send your subscribers and customers fresh content from time to time.

Whereas if you have a free one, you might never know that Google or even Wordpress will remove if they see your content as not being in their best interest as well as the interest of other searchers and users.

Free blogging platforms are garbage. You have no control at all and could lose everything in a blink of an eye.

Why wouldn't you pay for your own website? Are you really that cheap that you can't afford $10 for a domain and a few bucks a month for hosting?

IMHO, if you won't pay for a domain and hosting, whatever you're working on, you either think will fail or you're just not that seriously committed to it.

last word, you need the both. Making money online is not necessarily easier with one or the other.
whether you choose a blog or a website, you still have to learn how to generate targeted traffic or you won't make anything... period.
the reason I say this is because blogs are typically easier and cheaper to setup than websites. and because of this, people often run to create a blog and then later find out it's not always the best approach for their needs.

It seems no one has mentioned you can have a static website that includes a blog and also various landing and sales pages and more.

A website is a place you can visit online with a domain and allows you to view the content but that could be a specific one. On the other side, the blog would also be containing the content but it is created to have a simple interface and regular posts. These posts will be displayed in an order, with the new content coming at the top.
So, obviously one can have a website therein including a blog section, giving you an option to control the content and have more options to do the changes.

Blog is a good option and almost free of charge, cost reduction, easy to customize, fast and reliable,... But to do more, you need websites. With websites you can do much-much- and much more than you can with blog! I see both of them are great their ways as mentioned.
I hope you can make a good choice that makes you happy with.

Never rely on sites owned by somebody else. They can shut down your site any time simply because they don't like your content. Always invest in a domain name and in your own blog/wwebsite.

For me owning a Website is more powerful over a free blog site because in a owned website you have the power to decide which goes where and be able to control the content, placing, and even the ads you can place on, on the other hand blogs are free but you can only do minimum revision and your site might not look what you've wanted it to be.
