What's the best way to monetize blog traffic efficiently?

Hi, Warriors! Longtime lurker, first real post.

So I have this blog in the dating/seduction/how-to-be-successful-with-women niche that's more or less a passion project of mine. I just write content there from time to time to help people and I wasn't expecting it to get big or anything, nor to make money from it. I'm posting around once or twice a month since I don't really have the time due to other projects.

However, for several months now it's been getting decent traffic: 850-1050 unique visitors per day. And it's growing steadily. I didn't think much of it, but some of my buddies pointed out that I'm throwing away a couple of thousand dollars every month because I'm not monetizing it. I'm also getting a steady 30+ subscribers to my e-mail list per week. But I don't send out any marketing stuff.

I do have a website where I sell an info product in the same niche which is completely on auto-pilot and gets most of its traffic elsewhere. Which brings me a decent chunk of change each month, but nothing huge. However, even though I link the sales page in each of my blog posts, the vast majority (like 95%) of my sales aren't coming from the blog but other traffic sources.

So here's the big question. How do I monetize such a blog properly? I was even thinking of possibly hiring someone to monetize it for me if it'd be profitable, either for a lump sum or a small percentage of profits. I don't have the time nor the necessary experience to figure this out on my own.

Thoughts? Ideas?

    Grundyboy,

you're a vey fortunate fellow - 850 to 1050 uniques per day! That is phenomenal traffic - you are definitely writing some great articles that the search engines love.

What I would do is go over to Clickbank and join if you are not already a member and start promoting:

"How To Get Your Ex Back"

This can bring you in up to $63 per sale on average.

Then put "dating" in the search field and you will see a lot of good options, e.g:

300 Creative Dates By Oprah Winfrey - Paying $20.80 on average - she is very well respected so you should have little trouble selling this.

There are hundreds of dating books and programmes there - I am sure you will make some great money - and a very valuable website.

    I wish you good fortune.

    All the best

Hmm. How would I go about promoting this affiliate product? Seems like just posting a link to it at the end of some relevant posts wouldn't do much. Or would it?

Most of your income will come from email so spend more of your time communicating with your email list and providing value to your subscribers. Mail them offers that will help them get the results they desire. As far as the blog is concerned, focus on generating leads because it's hard to convert cold traffic into customers.

Hmm, so realistically that 850-1050 people per day is almost worthless if it's difficult to convert them?

I'm terrible at email marketing so I wouldn't know how to do it efficiently. Guess I'll read up on that. Thanks for the advice.

Affiliate products in your niche should perform well on your blog. Consider writing honest reviews of products that you consider helpful.

Hmm, well I'm not about to go buying various products from affiliates and spending days, weeks or months testing and then reviewing them. So that's out.

        Grundyboy,

I don't think you realise what affiliate marketing is.

You won't buy products from affiliates.

You can find products that are already selling very well and have a link to them on your website - as I mentioned with Clickbank.

Its well worth a try - and won't cost you 1 cent and you won't need to spend months testing them because a lot of these are already selling extremely well.

        Best Regards

          Ged,

I understood that part. However, he suggested I write honest reviews about the products I find helpful. How would I be able to write an honest review if I don't buy and try out the product to see if it's actually helpful? That's why I wrote that I'm not about to go buying them to test and write about them.

In any case, I just tried signing up for Clickbank and got a message saying I can't. I'm European and my country's listed in their approved countries list, so that's pretty weird. Then I checked out JVZOO and they don't seem to have any dating products with decent numbers.

            Hi Grundyboy,

sorry to hear you cannot sign up with Clickbank or JVZOO.

What I would do if I were you would be to google "dating affiliate programmes"

You will then find a list of affiliate programmes that you can join.

For example I have just found EHarmony has an affiliate programme paying £70 per subscriber.

Find one that you can join for your country - there will usually be a banner to put up somewhere on your site - then you will be paid for all the people that sign up - you should do well.

            Hope this helps.

You have to try different options, compare results and then stick with one that works best for your blog.

I would install Google Analytics if you haven't already. Look at the pages that get the most traffic and engagement (a long dwell time) and try to optimize them for conversions (leads, sales). Test and experiment until you find something that's working for you then simply rinse and repeat.

Thanks, that's solid advice. Appreciate it.

Ged, thanks for your advice as well. I'll definitely google affiliate programs for dating. Cheers

    Hi Grundyboy,

that's good - with sites like Eharmony all you need to do is put a banner on your site so there is no real work to do - apart from finding which position is most profitable for you.

You will often be given the option to have a long banner at the top - this usually gets most hits
    then smaller banners further down.

Webmasters experiment but usually find anything "above the fold" which is the part of the computer screen that you can see when you first view a website get the most hits followed by those beneath the fold.

The best thing to do is sign up and experiment with them to see which is most profitable for you.

    Hope this helps.

Try blog exchange groups especially the ones on facebook where each member submits another blog to his/her social media accounts. You'll definitely get traffic and if possible leads .

Hi, my question wasn't about getting traffic or leads but what to do with them once you have them.

Usually, affiliate marketing gives the best returns but my advice is that you should try all options. Compare the earnings and choose the best one.

      Great answer,

that's what the professional marketers do - its the only way to find the most profitable course of action - the worst thing to do is to procrastinate for too long or do nothing!

How do you monetize a site like yours?

I think it's been said a few times already...

    Affiliate marketing!

You don't have to do product reviews but you could learn how to 'call to action' your readers to click on a link at the end of your posts to opt in your lead capture page (If you have one).

Give a free product away in exchange for their email.

    Learn email marketing.
