Help choosing a domain name

Hello,

I am trying to choose which domain to register:

miami estate agents.com

property sales miami.com

(I have changed the name of the place I am interested in for Miami for this example)

The site will be an multi-listing property site.

How would you go about finding out if it was more benefial to register one over the other?

I would start with keyword research for the EMD's. Which term (property sales or real estate) has been more popular in the city you want to go after, which I'm guessing is Miami.

Then I'd choose the EMD with the keywords with the most search traffic.

    Hi CTHiker,

    Google loves brands.

So, my advise is to come up with a brand name (no EMD) and build the brand.

Later, you can use Keywords, you are going for, in your inner urls.

    Hope that helps,

    Erik

To me, "estate agents" and "property sales" suggest different kinds of audiences. Use a name that expresses exactly what you want to offer. (Estate, IMO, suggests high end sales but not necessarily real estate (for instance, could be an estate sale of art work, antique cars, coins or what have you).

I always register dot com names - it's the best alternative for commercial business. There are many great dot com names available in every marketplace. Use Lean Domain Search or Impossibility to help you find a great dot com name.

IMO, branding is not necessarily as important when geo-targeting a certain city or region as it might be when trying to attract a global audience. I would stick with a mid-range keyword rich domain name ending in dot com. You can still make it memorable, relatively short, and easily spelled.

    The best to you,

    Steve

I am always very suspicious when I visit a domain like keyword-keyword-city.com. It is because of the bad impression which cause these over-optimized domains.

Something like yourcompany.com would look much more professional. But take into account that I work in the internet marketing niche for almost 20 years so my way of perception of this may be very different from the way how other people see it.

You should do some research and see what has more traffic and relevance.

I would also consider buying both.

if you want to build your own brand name, let use your brand, no need to care much about keywords in domain name. But if you want to build a website that can be ranked well and fast.
In terms of 2 domains that you are considering, 1 vote for 1st one as the location miami in front of the other, it can get a little bit more click because you are selling real estate in location Miami.

Use a brand name and build on it.

Go to brandbucket.com and search "real estate" . You will get some great domain name ideas. Here are a few ideas that I got:

    MiamiSpace.com
    MiamiHomes.com
    SuiteMiami
    MiamiRising
    EmpireMiami
    RealMiami
    RealXY

MY advice is to create a quality unique business brand name then use the business name add realtor or realestate to the end.
