Adult business - worth pursuing or something else?

Hey,

So basically I come from a background where I have owned businesses all my life and for many years now I built a business in the adult industry as a model. I am in my late 20's now and I don't really enjoy being the model anymore, I much prefer being behind the scenes and creating income streams that are more interesting.

I see that I have potential to use the things I built in the adult industry as a form of passive income. For example I have around 9000 followers on twitter, 3000 on Instagram and I am very much established and well known across the adult industry forums where the other models hang out.
I fully understand many aspects of the industry and am well known in the fetish side of things, I have created over 300+ videos and photo content.

So I wanted to target more towards the models to teach them how to become cam/content creating models within the industry and other things that would be passive for me and useful to them.

However I have been on fiverr and attempted to message around some people for design work (am a graphic and web designer but I would rather save time than money) and to write articles etc and outsource all the work. However nobody seems to want to deal with anything relating to the adult industry, is this avenue worth even pursuing? is it as lucrative as they say?

I do have other options of other businesses that are totally outside of the adult industry and I am wondering if that is going to be far easier to pursue than adult related stuff?
Thank you

In some ways, this is a refreshing break from the how do I make 100 dollars with IM type of WF post. So, I'll render an opinion or two...

Adult industry is as evergreen as any marketplace, an absolutely insatiable market and the fetish niche is a growing one. Since you are established, you might consider ways to make your experience more mainstream, or more acceptable to the "mass market", ala, FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY. The success of that franchise has given you some templates and even some tracks to follow.

So, as a money making pursuit, there have always been a couple of tiers, those at the top getting rich, and those "worker bees" who provide the labor and oft get the lower wages.

With so much content already created, look for ways to bundle them, perhaps separating them into categories, and targeting your followers you already have.

A good start is with a TELL ALL book, sort of like, ME AND STORMY; Insights into adult entertainment and American politics. I'd buy that one.

Look for ways to leverage what you already have, start where you are at, and focus on where you want to go, which is pretty standard advice for all Warriors who question their future activities.

    Good luck.

Thank you for your input. Yes I can imagine how frustrating it must be to keep seeing/responding to those kind of posts. I come from a business background & recognise it's hard work and time consuming. There is no quick buck or easy money (even as a cam model lol).

In terms of tell all books, to be honest I don't have much of an story to tell. As much as I have certainly heard it all and along the way heard some amusing things. I feel I have more to teach. Becoming a cam model or adult content producer goes far beyond the actual performance. In a market saturated with beautiful women, offering the same thing. It's truly hard to stand out. So if you lack marketing or business skills to make it work, then you're technically winging it.
Thankfully I know how to market myself well & have seen some high success in quick time.

In regards to my content which is essentially my most valuable product, I have a struggle as yes there are several video platforms for my content, however they take between 30-40%. For that you get a platform, certain amount of traffic and payment processing dealt with. Problem is I am then essentially directing people to my page of the platform but then every other girl on there too. So all my traffic & marketing could be all in vain, if they decide to click off me onto another model and spend with her.

I would love to have my own platform and site to have my content on, have one per niche and market it, without the concern of competition. Problem is I am in the UK. We have some warped laws when it comes to porn & legal things, especially ones they roll out the age verification thing later this year.

This is, no doubt, a skill and talent other young models would like to have. Why not teach others what you already know about promoting yourself?

Just as a thought ... you may want to downplay the porn side of things ... and mostly concentrate on the marketing knowledge that you have. Why?

Just as you stated in one of your posts ... there are legal aspects to the adult industry that many don't want to have to deal with. If you are associated with porn (even though your site may not directly publish porn) you may have your site banned or black listed because of your association (whether warranted or not).

What you can surely do is build a business around YOU.

As an example as a webcam girl. And you can make nice money.

The most good marketer in adult industry is onlineadrian, google it.

Or you can ask to me: if i understand, you are a woman, so you can build a brand around you and be a very well paid webcam girl in a good site and also be an agent.

It's one of the most profitable business, of course, i made nice money with it.

If you have a good product/service and a way to reach your audience and sell to them, then why not? It all comes down to that.

  • Kimberly91,

I think GordonJ's idea has good potential, especially since:

    1. You said in your other recent thread that you're looking at more passive ways to generate good income and that you're considering publishing books as a possible way forward;
    2. You mentioned here that you have lots of followers at widely used social media platforms; and
    3. You also said you have good contacts within the cam modeling industry ...

    * For number 1 - You might find it interesting, challenging and rewarding to hire fiction writers, work with them in integrating your experience into the content, and publish books in erotica and related categories as an author at Kindle among other similar platforms with good traffic?
    * As for number 2 - I think that's a ready market of buyers and viral marketers for your books?
    * For number 3 - Your contacts could be interested in signing up as affiliates for your books, since it might be straightforward for them to promote your books to their own followers?

As for your video content, if you find Youtube strict and cumbersome - You might find an ad-free, user data tracker-free platform called Bit.Tube to be an option with good potential as an additional repository for your videos (you can still maintain your videos at other platforms); and
The platform also offers a live broadcast feature where your followers can participate without paying anything, since you'll get TUBE payouts for the time that each viewer spends on your live broadcasts ...

Instead of the 30% cut of Youtube (haven't checked this recently, though I remember this at this rate), you'll get 90% of all payouts for the time that each viewer spends watching your videos (no need for ad views since there aren't any ads); and
You get TUBE payouts, which you can quickly exchange for BTC then to USD at LiveCoin, TradeOgre and other exchange platforms - It's currently trading at $0.18 per 1 TUBE. Plus:
I'm sure you already know this, though as just a friendly reminder - You might want to check how such payouts are taxed by your government ...

Do you feel passionate about porn? Seriously....because if you have to deal with tons of headaches - and you will - it helps to feel clear and passionate about the adult niche. If not, you will not have too much fun with jumping through hoops just to see some success. Never about the potential in the niche but it is all about the passion in you. Big difference.

    Hi

Ultimately you will have to decide which direction you go but as I understand it your problem right now is you can't find freelancers?

I did a quick search and there are people advertising for graphics designers for porn banners on upwork and freelancer com
you could try to advertise for a designer in LA, there has to be somebody in the San Fernando Valley that works closely with that industry.

When you find a designer they may be able to recommend a content writer.
