How can i quickly make a website without using wordpress

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build small websites quite quickly which also allows me to flip quite easily. I don't want to use Wordpress because I don't know how to handle database etc. So something that is cheap and quick to make would do. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gurpreet

You don't have to handle databases with Wordpress. Go to cPanel in your hosting account (if you have it), click on the Fantastico button (the blue smiley face one), fill out 3 or 4 wee things and you have a website.

Or you could try Googling "free website builder", there are a few out there.

        Hey Lynn,

When i want to sell the website my understanding is that I would need to deal with the database then which I'd rather not do. I'm just looking for something really simple which is quick to do.

          Hey Mr E.

I can't imagine any site that doesn't sport some kind of DB as being worthwhile really. I wonder how practical a WEB2.0 site would be without a DB.
Lyn is absolutely correct.. WordPress is just so simple and you don't need to fiddle with the database. When you come to sell the site you could hire a systems admin techmonkey for $15 or $20 to transfer the DB for you. You can find plenty on Scriptlance. I have a screenshot tutorial of how to download a complete WP site and database in less than 60 minutes on my blog (see my profile) and see the article filed under Wordpress (sorry can't link as I'm still a new warrior!)

Failing this being suitable you could look at Xsitepro and see if that suits.
          Cheers

But I guess you do if you sell the site to someone who wants to move it to their own hosting etc...

I didn't register the "flipping" angle the first time I read it either.

I would like to recommend X site pro, It's complete Software site builder with all setting for Optimize SEO,

But i think you need to learn build site with wordpress because it's very essential as everyone love wordpress blog, especially the ones that already make money, you will flip it easily..

              Cheers,

  • And what software will the person who buys your site be using? Something to think about isn't it?

MySQL databases are probably the easiest thing there is to set up. cPanel Hosts provide a very simple "wizard" process that takes maybe 2 minutes. And the WordPress install is maybe 5-10 minutes once you learn how to do it. Or you can use Fantastico and it's incredibly simple.

But if you don't want to use it don't. But you are not thinking your idea through very well unless you address who is going to buy your site and what they will be using.

You might want to consider creating Squidoo Lenses and selling them. I've never done it, but I understand other people do.

I think I know what you mean.

You want a decent looking site with the ability to move it. I too have trouble with moving WP sites.

You can use premade templates or you can use a simple program like sothink to build uncomplicated little sites. Then a move means only download and upload. Simple

I've tried using the site builders that come with cPanel and they don't work well when someone else wants to make a change after the site is moved.

    Thanks for the response guys.

I've got sothink which George mentioned. I know there is Xsitepro too but thats a little expensive for me at the moment. Any others?

I'm also going to look into handling WP databases but I'm not a techie so not sure how well I will get on with that.

I don't get your point at all.

If you are selling a wordpress site, just sell the domain and give the new owner your password. If your new owner insist on moving the site to his server, just go into fantastico and create a database backup (just click one button). Then transfer that backup (it will be in a zip file) to the new owner, along with the theme. He'll have to reactivate the plugins, but that should take all of about 2 minutes.

Anyway if Wordpress really scares you that much, you can always use Xsite pro. I use that occasionally, along with wordpress, and a few other things.

      Cheers.
