Should I Keep Confirmed Opt-in?

Do you think it is better to have the confirmed opt-in for e-mail marketing? Do you think this deters people from staying on the list - making them do an extra step?

I'm interested to hear your thoughts...

Some won't reconfirm but you can say those that do have shown an interest in what you have to say. and may be a better customer than a freebie seeker.

I use double opt in and I don't have exact stats but most confirm.

If after signup you seriously ask folks to confirm right now, most ( 90+% ) will do as you ask.

    - Make it clear on the opt-in page that they must confirm before they get their free gift.

    - After they opt-in send them to a page that urges them to confirm right away or they won't get their freebie.

    Hope This Helps!!

Adding the step of letting them know to check their email for a confirmation will definitely help your confirmation rate. All of my lists are double opt-in and very responsive.

It would definitely depend on your niche. If your target market is the non-technical and not so internet savvy type, it may confuse them to have to double opt in. In one of my niches, the customers are typically seniors, instead of clicking on the confirmation link they will often hit reply and say "Yes please, you have my permission" So I have to actually click on the confirmation link in the email for them.
As a rule though, if you are in the IM niche you would be best advised to use the double opt in to have a better and more responsive list.

I will have to echo, Alexa Smith. It depends on the market that you are in. It will speed up the process in most a aggressive markets. However, you can do some pretty creative things with the c confirmed opt in.
