First Wordpress Site-Install confusion??

I have just finished installing my webhost to Wordpress. Question is, do I need Wordpress itself actually installed to my home computer, and what the heck do I do now??

Someone in the forum gave me a link to a great guide which I printed but didn't save to my computer, now the printed copy is missing...I appreciate any help!

There is no need to install WP on home computer but rather it has to be installed on your server. Let's say you installed it at www.yourdomainname.com, then you need to first login at www.yourdomainname.com/wp-login.php

    Jen,

I am unsure of the actual guide that you are talking about, however I would recommend: WordPress Tutorial: How to Use WordPress, WP installation, WordPress themes. Find professional WordPress hosting. , that site has sections for what you want to, for instance, the "getting started with WordPress" section tells you how to login to your Website's backend (administrator panel).

Hi, Jen. You can also go to Youtube and find lots of video tutorials, or just go to google and type in what you are looking for.

Make sure you view something that is recent, though because some of the videos are older and may be a bit confusing. The most recent version of WP is 2.8.

      Hope that helps.

My favorite resource is wordpress.tv (no affiliation) and they have a How To section.

Be carefull here, if you install wordpress onto your site using your hosts cpanel fantastico installer. When you first log into WP you will have to go to setting on the bottom left hand side, then privacy and change it to visable. fantastico default setting hides the blog from the serach engines.

    Create pass
    Select user directory "/xyz.biz"

    Your applications
    Blogs
    Wordpress
    Install now
    xyz.biz
    Continue
    Choose install directory
    Ie /blog

Domains that are already existing need to manually change dns -
    Existing domains

lol.. you seem to be a total newbie to this. I'd be around for another hour on the forum. So, PM me and I'd try to help you.

Now, I'm not a wordpress expert but I can, quite easily, get you started with the basics.

Thank you all, this forum is awesome!! I gave up shortly after my post, and called it a night. How wonderful it is to wake up to this many kind people who were willing to help me out, I really appreciate it.
I tried to get into my http address after installing wordpress via the host, but it did not work. I believe the problem is that I never logged into wordpress to change my settings, I will do that today.
Thank you all again, I am printing out everthing here and will be using the wordpress guide above to see how it goes.

      A tip:

Join a lesser known social bookmarking site which you'd probably never use for promotion. Bookmark all your required links there instead of printing stuff. You won't lose it, no matter what!
