I just opened a Not secured website, but not highlighted with Red. What does it mean, because usually most of the Unsecured website is flagged with Red Font (the word NOT SECURED)? Can I continue browsing w/o causing harm to my computer?

It is really important that you get SSL certificate for your website and each of your web pages must represent https. Also, in general, it should be secure. Nowadays search engine and users are quite sensitive to security and lack of security can harm your website in many ways. it's better not to download anything from such website as it has more chances of malicious content.

I believe that by 'opened' he means 'visited,' not 'launched.'

yeah you can continue browsing if you have adequate virus protection. .But if you conduct any activity on that website, like enter creidt card/personal details - it can be tracked by unauthorised parties (or even the website itself) and exploited. All websites should have a SSL certificate -

It's okay. Other sites don't have the SSL certificate maybe that's why it's marked as unsecured. If you have an antivirus that also filters your browsing, it can also detect suspicious websites that you should not be opening. Otherwise, a site with only http instead of https is just fine.

Don't think. You have no antivirus? I do not recommend to visit such sites. Then you will need to check for viruses.

As you described, I believe it's just because the website owner does not install SSL certification, and that's totally fine.

So many bad answers in this thread...

The only thing different about a "Not secured" website is that the data passed between the web browser and the web server (and vice versa) is NOT encrypted because it is NOT using the HTTPS protocol.

When the HTTPS protocol is used, it means that the information passed is unreadable if it's intercepted by another party. That can be anything from your username and password, credit card information, email address, or other personally identifiable data.

If NO personally identifiable information is passed in either direction, there is NO reason to encrypt the information.

It has NOTHING to do with viruses. If a web site has a virus, that virus will simply be encrypted before sending it, and de-crypted by the browser before displaying the information in the browser. In other words, encryption provides NO protection from viruses.

While there are certainly valid reasons to use the HTTPS protocol, The "Not secured" notification only informs the visitor that the site should not be used to input "sensitive" information.
