I just went into paypal to set up a new payment process. usually dead easy.

Now...i haven't got a clue what to do. It's way over my head, scripts, etc...a real headache.

What happened? There must have been a huge drop off?

I cannot work out how to set it up now used to take me 2 min's.

  • If you google 'how to add paypal button' you'll find everything from page of developer's instructions to videos with step by step. It may have changed but certainly not a 'drop off'.
  • ok but it went from a 1 to a 9 for ease of use...my question is why?
  • No idea - paypal's decisions are above my pay grade

I was thinking just this morning (as I was trying to muddle through the new massive 'options' on Direct TV menu screens)....that every time any technical site option online is 'new and improved' or 'changed'....

....it seems to require MORE steps and MORE mouse clicks to get where you want to be. And they call it 'progress'....

  • I think it's all part of the big master plan to reduce the number of staff being hired by companies, automating more processes, making the processes so complicated that only a 5 year old can understand them, and making those who are older want to either hire somebody to handle the technical aspects OR run screaming down the street in next to nothing, on a freezing cold morning, chasing after what's left of their sanity.

  • damm it used to be so easy and quick and now...i can't figure it out. Oh well. I won't use them.
  • Banned
I also need to Google more about to setup Paypal button, earlier it was so easy for me to have it on my micro sites. No idea, they are improving it or making it more complex.
  • Did you contact Paypal support? I believe they must give you a reason, then we can base on it to think about the solution.
  • Try to use // paypal.me //
  • [DELETED]
  • You an use paypal.me as suggest above, as a short cut. Howeveer, for merchants and businesses services these stpes are in place to help prevent scammers - they have more safeguards now that people buying "services" are actually receiving something, so the backend is more complex to verify that. Ultimately it should be better for you as a seller because you will, in theory, have seller protection.

Don't ask me how it works. Two years ago when I had a dispute with a buyer, the paypal support told me i need to talk to my developers to create a button that captures the buyer's IP address when buying a service and has proof that the digital service was delivered to that IP instantly. But she wouldn't tell me how to do it or where to look... Perhaps this is them forcing sellers to be more vigitalnt.

    • Right ok that is a good idea....but they need to make it a bit easier i.m.h.o.
  • I just logged in to PP to see what the fuss is about. I can't see a single change.

    • you don't see all this when you now try to set it up? never seen this before...it was 2 minute job....I can't work it out now. Talk about taking something that used to work great and messing it up.

I am confused as to what you are seeing...

      Express Checkout
      Add the PayPal Button
To create the best checkout process for your customers and increase your conversion rates, consider where you will place the PayPal Checkout button on your site. See Choose the optimal button location to learn more.

Add the script to your client
For Express Checkout integrations, PayPal provides the JavaScript checkout.js script. Add the checkout.js script to your client on the page where you want to render the PayPal button:

  • If you're just trying to set up a "buy" button, go to https://www.paypal.com/buttons/ (you'll need to log into your Paypal account)

  • You can bypass the paypal button altogether if you go through an affiliate network ( jvzoo, warrior plus, etc)

Besides the ease of setup by using affiliate networks, you get free advertising for your product, because your product get's listed in their marketplace and you can also get affiliates.
  • I wish we all had other good alternatives to PayPal. Every time these companies get too big they will make changes without informing their subscribers for their own gain or who knows what. And it is nearly impossible to get any help from them when we have issues with their sites.
  • When was that, exactly?

Maybe it's a qualifier...If you can't figure it out you can't use it.

    • Yes..before up to one month ago i could set up a new payment method in 2 minutes....just go through the options get the code presto...

Now it is different....it changed about 3-4 weeks ago. Do you not see this?

I don't get many of the responses on here...to say it has not changed and not got more complicated is baffling.

No need for sarcastic responses. As your mum said "if you have nothing nice to say best to say nothing"

  • Maybe there's new improvement.

    Just check these videos:

How to create a Paypal buy now button - YouTube
    and this:
How to create a Paypal custom payment page - YouTube

    • Unfortunately, BOTH of those videos are outdated, and are virtually useless as "How-To's"
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • I buy thru PayPal but they are useless as far as helping get a refund from a bad seller, in my case at least, they have always sided with the seller or mad eit so difficult to proceed thru PayPal
  • I just logged into my account went to tools chose to create a button and it looks pretty much self explanatory.

If you think that is complicated you are going to have many issues down the line

  • Are you using the Mobile Site or viewing it on a desktop or laptop? I find the Mobile Site a lot more confusing but when I view PayPal on my Desktop it is a whole lot easier to navigate and use the new interface. If you get stuck call customer service for help.
  • Have no idea what you guys are talking about. Interface was changed yeas ago

click my paypal top right hand side
click profile top right hand side
click profile & settings when the drop down drops

and as a matter of fact its then the same profile page thats been around for nearly a decade

click my selling tools and all the payment stuff is right there

I never try on mobile because its much more tedious copying and pasting.
  • They 'simplified' everything. It takes a while to get used to the current UI.
  • what is this....everything looks the same, but I am in OZ.
