Funding Own Project, How Long Should Co Founder Help For

Quick question. If I create a product and funded the project from development to advertising. Is it fair to request developer work with me first for free in order to see how they work? If so, how long should I request they help me for. I'm doing a 3 month pre-launch. Would 30 days or 90 day be better? I appreciate any help!

    99% of the time...
    any developer willing to work for any period of time without either
    1. payment from the outset,
    2. a percentage ownership in the resulting product/business, or
    3. both
    isn't worth having.

    You will be wasting your time as well as his/hers.
