Is Solar Energy/Power Niche Profitable in 2018

Hey Guys,

I am seeing world is moving to Solar energy source and majorly it will be occupied by US,Japan and India .

I would like to target solar niche and want to know if solar accessory or solar appliances or solar products would be profitable niche ?

    Well, lets see, the state of California is forcing all new homes to install solar panels. There's going to be a few exceptions, like building roofs that don't get much sunlight.

    Probably profitable for someone.

    Down the road? Definitely. But in 2018? Think of this; will the solar lobby overpower the oil-gas-coal lobby and it's billion-trillion-world dominating influence in 2018? If so, solar will take off. If not, solar will take off likely 5 to 10 to 30 years down the road. May be a while buddy. But who knows?

    I bought my first PV panels 11 or 12 years ago.

    It's a huge market.

      It's also a business that's built on top of the business they're trying to replace. The only way solar makes any financial sense are net metering agreements with utilities. Those deals are now being dumped / modified to the point of making no sense at all. I've seen several local markets where utility monopolies killed solar outright via simple policy changes. I think solar is here to stay, it's a cool technology, but until their business doesn't require piggy backing on top of utility monopolies and getting them to cooperate, it's a business with major business model issues.

      I bought my first one in 2009 - a tiny one that clipped on my backpack that was almost useless unless you were standing on the equator at noon. I've got a fold-up 100W one I use with my car camper now - there was about $100 different in price between the two. It's incredible how affordable it's becoming.

      OP, solar does not have to "overcome the oil-gas-coal lobby", whatever that even means, to be a profitable niche. Like any niche, do your research and understand that the profitability is dependant on you as much as anything else

      But make no mistake, solar is only getting more efficient and more affordable. The barriers to adoption are coming down and the market is only going to keep getting bigger and bigger.

        However, whilst you're right that the barriers to entry are becoming less and less - the truth is that the past 5 years have not seen any technological advancements in terms of efficiency. I.e. the % of sunshine that a solar panel is able to capture. I hope a breakthrough will come soon, but doesn't look like it.

    It is very profitable, l am reading over and over about some company investing 10 of millions into some new solar or wind concept in AU.

    The world is drunk on wind/solar and battery's, so yeah, go for it.

    Why don't you research the marketplace and find your answers? That research should be a basic step for anyone choosing to go into a specific market niche looking to make money. It's not enough to simply ask if a market niche is profitable or not.


    You need to understand where and how you can position a new business in the niche so that you can grab a share of the money flowing in that niche. You need to know what you can sell profitably. Doing your research will validate where the real needs are, how you can find and approach your intended audience, and what they are looking to purchase. It will verify who the competitors are, what they are selling, what industry price structures look like, and where there are "gaps" or holes in the marketplace that you might step in and fill profitably.


    Never jump into a niche simply because random people tell you it's profitable.


    You need to validate your plans and intentions by actually seeing what the marketplace is like and understanding what the niche participants are looking to purchase.

    Yes, all solar appliances would be a profitable niche because the way we are using the energy from a natural resource. It will deplete faster and one day all natural resource will vanish. On that time solar accessory will help us and this resource will provide energy.

    Both efficiency and cost in solar technology have dramatically improved in recent years. In my area (southern California) home owners are installing solar systems, solar farms are sprouting up, and RVs are increasingly being outfitted with nearly complete solar energy self-sufficiency. So yeah, I would say it's a profitable niche.

    Yes because our natural materials are depleting very fast or you can say our consumption it very fast. One day it will vanish and we are only using solar energy.

    Shooting myself in the foot here.. not really LOL the more the merrier But forget the PANELS, and start thinking inverters and charging devices and batteries, and sky is the limit pretty much. Simply put - start thinking consumables.

    In 2017 alone, global solar capacity grew by 32%. Between 2010-2017 the costs of electricity from solar fell by 73%.

    And in my own solar business (through Amazon, etc), sales have climbed steadily over the last 12 years, with no letup in sight.
