Niche Sites vs Authority Site

I know thin sites + EMD are thing of the past, however just wondering what the difference is if you are adding new valuable content to either type of site?

Is it better to continue adding fresh content to an older niche site

or better creating a new authority type site?

What would be your focus?

I would say depends on how narrow your domain name is.

For example, if your domain is a review for a product (productnamereview.com) then yeah, it probably doesn't allow for a whole lot of additional content.

If you can add articles that make sense within the name of your blog, than I would stick with your older site and just add quality content of 1,000 to 1,500 words with lots of longtail keywords sprinkled in(making it natural of course)

That way, you'll get lots of longtail traffic that will add up with each additional article.

Also, try to embed a video in each post as well. Makes Google happy

    I hope this helps

I was just thinking along some similar lines today with regards to my latest site that I am going to build.

The thing is with some sites content may be limited, for example a webhosting review site. Sure there a tons of web hosting companies out there that you can write about, however you will start to get to obscure less known companies with little reader interest.

With that type of site you will have to put all of your efforts into writing very high quality content for the top 10-20 most well known hosting companies. I would say say this is more of a niche site.

If you compare this to a travel blog for example, your authority type content is endless.

I would say that is the main difference between a niche site and an authority site. Of course you could have a hybrid of the two.

Whichever you choose will depend on your end goals and knowing where your strengths lie.

Go with your strengths; what appeals to you? Always about your clarity on choosing one or the other. I always go authority because my niche lends itself to authority sites.
