How Jason Made His First Clickbank Commission in Just 3 Days...

Two of the biggest "ah ha" moments I've had in the last 20 years of successfully
selling online?

1. Focus on helping people solve problems that are hurting them NOW.

2. Don't make it too obvious that you're trying to sell stuff. Instead, offer a way out of
their painful situation and make it easy for them to grab that help (a product/service)

In fact, it's taken me YEARS to get to a point where I can use those 2 things as
a "guide post" when going into and succeeding in ANY market.

What's even more exciting for me is when someone takes the following formula and
uses it to make sales faster and easier than guessing or wondering what works.

In fact, the steps below can help anyone, new or experienced, make sales a lot quicker
than the 100 different ways you're bound to see online.

You don't need a ton of new shiny toys. You don't need to bounce from one
coaching program to another.

Instead, it's much easier to make an income online if you focus on getting
solutions in front of people LOOKING for them.

That's what Jason did, a fellow Warrior I helped to enter a new market and
make his first Clickbank sale in just 3 days.

Now, let me just say that Jason knew what he was doing when it came to
getting traffic.

So sure, he had an advantage over some of the other folks here who may
not be as traffic savvy.

But I bet you "dollars to donuts" that if you follow the steps right below,
you'll see a sale faster than most online methods that gurus try to pitch you.

So, let me share the same formula I used to help Jason make a Clickbank
sale in just 3 days.

Step 1. Think of "quality of life" problems you can help a lot of people with.

The fact is, people will spend money to get out of pain. And if you can prove
you can help, they'll buy from you.

But again, don't make it look like you're selling or pushing products onto
people.

People resist being sold to. We all do. But want to know what works and
slips under the radar?

Sharing your story and solution with others.

Think of something you've overcome or a big problem you were able
to solve for yourself.

Maybe you prevented a divorce? Got back with an ex?

Lowered your blood pressure or got your blood sugar and diabetes
under control?

Maybe you found a way to get a job faster than you ever have.

Think of something you've accomplished recently... something that
got you out of a painful situation and moved you towards a better,
more comfortable life.

Is this something you can help others do?

Step 2. Check Clickbank for top-selling products related to what you
achieved.

With Jason, we focused on helping people stop their divorce.

At the top of Clickbank, there's a product called "Save the Marriage".

I like using top-selling products as an affiliate because they're top sellers
for a reason. You'll always do better piggy backing off a top seller than
trying to sell a bottom dweller.

So, Jason chose to promote Save the Marriage.

Perhaps you've been able to stop your divorce? Or again, if you have
personal experience with solving any major problem, see if there are
related products on top of Clickbank.

Choose one of the top selling products to promote.

Step 3. Write down a technique that helped you get out of your painful situation

On a word document, write out a short, applicable technique you used
when overcoming your challenge.

If you stopped your divorce, maybe you focused on improving
communication with your spouse.

If you lost a ton of weight, maybe you got rid of a certain kind of food.
If you helped lower your blood sugar, maybe you set up your daily
eating a certain way.

The key is... if you were able to get out of your painful situation doing
something specific, chances are you took some action steps.

Write down one of the action steps in a word doc and be willing to share it
with others.

You want to make it simple, quick to do (and see results) and applicable.

You want the reader to be able to follow the steps in your word
doc and see a result that gets them closer to their goal... which is no more
painful situation they're in.

At the end of that word document, lead into the program you found on
Clickbank, one that relates to the solution you have.

With Jason, since we were helping people stop their divorce, our word doc
outlined 10 things that someone could do to get their spouse WANTING
to stop a possible divorce.

At the end of the word doc, I wrote out a short paragraph that got
people WANTING to click on the link to learn more about Save the
Marriage.

That way, Jason would earn a commission when someone related to
the technique we shared and wanted to learn more about saving their
marriage.

Turn that word document into a PDF file you can give away.

Step 4. Set up a simple opt in/squeeze page on your site

A squeeze page is simply a page where you offer up something for
free, in return for peoples' email addresses.

Set up a squeeze page where you're going to GIVE away
this PDF file that contains your technique.

On the top of the squeeze page, use a headline that tells people
you have a technique or tip that can help them get a desired result.

With Jason and Save the Marriage, I said something like...

"Free Report Shows You How to Stop Your Divorce and
Save your Marriage... Even if it Seems Hopeless"

Then I wrote some bullet points right before the opt in box.

Step 5. Set up a "Thank you Page" on your site

You also want to set up what's known as a "thank you page"...
which is the page that people see AFTER opting in to get your free
report.

On this page, thank the person for taking the time to get your free
report, tell them it's on the way, and then mention you KNOW what they're
going through right now.

Use a few paragraphs to show the reader you can relate to what they're
going through right now, because you were dealing with the same problem.

This is where it really helps to talk about your personal experience,
your struggle, and the discovery and journey to what worked.

Even if you don't have a ton of copywriting skills or experience, use a few
paragraphs on this page to share your personal experience.

You want people to relate to you, like you, and trust you.

Again, that you were in a similar situation, like them, and figured out
a solution.

On this "thank you page", lead people down to a point where you
recommend the top-selling product in your niche.

Jason talked about how Save the Marriage was written by a real
therapist who helps couples for a living.

Since it was one of Clickbank's top selling programs and had a lot of research
that proved it could help people stop their divorce, he was comfortable
recommending it to others.

Again, maybe you lost a lot of weight with one of the top programs on Clickbank?

Or maybe you controlled your blood pressure using a specific technique
and there's a program on Clickbank that uses the same approach you used.

At the bottom of the thank you page, you can recommend the affiliate program
you found on Clickbank. Give people enough reasons why they should check
it out.

Don't be all hypey or salesy. Instead... write as if you were talking to a friend
and offering guidance on what they could do to improve their situation.

You want to pre-sell the program you're going to be recommending.

Don't outwardly appear to be selling. When you try to sell, you're met
with resistance.

But offer to help or show others why they can trust and believe you and
you WILL get more people to buy in.

Step 6. Put 3 to 4 follow up emails into your email service

Whether you use Aweber, Getresponse, or any other email service
provider, write out a few emails that follow up with people who opt in
to get your free report.

Again, don't try to hard sell in the emails. Instead, share your personal
story. Share the struggles, the journey, and the solution you found.

Tell personal stories that can help you relate to the readers and get them
feeling like you've been where they are and figured out a solution.

At the end of the emails, mention the program you got from Clickbank.

Jason had 3 emails he used to deliver the free report and follow up
with people who opted in.

A LARGE majority of his sales and commissions came from these
follow up emails.

At no point in the emails or any part of these steps do you want to push
your stuff onto people.

Instead, simply share your personal struggle and accomplishments.
And write as if you're talking to a friend.

Give people HOPE.

Let them know you can help them get out of the situation they're in
because you've already done it yourself.

Step 7: Get eyeballs to your opt in page

This is where you actually have to get traffic to your opt in page, so you
can start letting people see your solution.

Jason used a Facebook ad I had written. You can use Facebook ads,
Google ads, solo ads, Youtube, Bing, etc..

You want targeted traffic who can actually USE what you're giving away.

In the Facebook ad, I tried to immediately catch attention of our target market
by using the sentence...

"Is your marriage on the verge of ending?"

I wanted to cut right to the heartache that they're feeling. And if someone's on the
verge of getting a divorce, they'll notice stuff that talks about it.

That's your reticular activating system at work.

It's why you suddenly notice all of the same make and model
of new car you just bought. They were always there, but now that your mind
is aware and you're paying attention, you SEE them.

With your Facebook ad, call out the big problem your prospect is facing and
let them know you can help them with your free report.

Your Facebook ad is going to target those people who are struggling with the
same problem you were and that you already solved.

From that ad, to your opt in page, to your thank you page...

To your free report and emails... the goal is to capture attention.

Then, bond and relate with your story. Get people liking and trusting you.
Offer them hope, and prove you have a technique that will help them.

And using your personal story and experience, explain how you can
offer some immediate advice, as well as show them a program that
has the exact insight they need.

By promoting a program that's based on a similar problem you were able to
solve yourself, you can use your own personal story and experience to relate
to people.

Show them you can help and give them enough proof.

This method of persuading and pre-selling, by helping others first, is by
FAR the most effective method of selling I've EVER used.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is the same formula Jason and many others have
used to get their first sale within days.

When you're truly out to help people and you want to share your own experience,
it's more powerful when it comes to persuading and pre-selling Clickbank offers.

I hope this helps a few people!

    Wow...what a great article Shawn!

That is a really unique twist on using the Thank You Page.

So is the story that you put on the Thank you page just a quick summary of
the personal story in the Free report?

    Thank you for your time.

    Shawn,

Great thread and a throwback to what WaFo used to be.

    Thanks.

    Yep Shawn:

    1: Help.

    2: Detach.

Serve and cut strings. Sales find you. Few learn to help then, help. Even fewer are not TOTALLY addicted to outcomes. The generous, detached servants can make sales really really quickly.

      Hey Ryan,

Thanks for taking the time to post on this, I'm not sure what you meant by
      "detach" though?

Maybe you're talking about tire-kickers or those who tend not to buy anything
      from you after a while?

I've found that simply staying in touch with people, offering some really
good insight and advice that helps them, and then always gently nudging
them to take action (buy) works pretty well.

It's true that I have a customer list, of people who have bought products...
and that list is approached a bit different than a general list of opt ins who
      haven't bought.

But, I still tend not to detach, except maybe after I've sent in a proposal
for a job, and once I hit "send" on the email, I no longer worry about whether
      I get hired or not.

Was just curious what you meant by detaching?

    Great article, Shawn

Quick Warning to people thinking of using FB ads though.

It's too easy to burn THOUSANDS of bucks without anything to show for it.

Ad quality is just one part of the equation. You need to KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING IN TERMS OF AUDIENCE TARGETING

They need to research ahead of time how to customize their audience targeting or else they are just wasting their time.

This is especially true if you target US audiences - it's a very competitive market target and mistakes can be costly.

    Once again, great article.

      Thanks for the kind words.

And you're 100% right... it's EASY to give Facebook your
money, for nothing in return, if you're not careful about
      targeting, scaling, and budgeting.

In fact, one thing I do that MAY help others here?

I come from the old school of direct response, having
used direct mail, Google Adwords, newspapers, and
magazine display ads, as well as Facebook ads and other
      online paid traffic.

One thing that has helped me go into a market right away
      and be successful?

I work on targeting and the WHO before I even worry about
      a product or ad.

In other words, I find, by going through either Facebook
demo targeting options, Clickbank top selling markets,
or using the data cards for top selling magazines/mailing lists...

I work on finding the rabid audience first, and then match up
      a product, service, or offer.

So, with a recent funnel I created in the Stop your Divorce/Save
Your Marriage space... I saw the targeting option "separated"
on Facebook demo, and that kick started the idea of marketing
      to them.

I knew, from being married for 10 years now, that possibly getting
a divorce would be devastatingly painful... so people would be more
likely to buy a product that saves their marriage.

By starting with the market and painful problem, and then working
backwards, I'm more likely to ensure that my ads will be set up to
      target correctly.

This is one way for Facebook ad marketers to limit their losses... is
by working on finding a very responsive market first, and then creating
      the offer around that.

And obviously, having parameters in place like cost per click and daily
budget that won't make you go broke!

Thanks again for the kind words!

      Thanks Jason.

But I just gave you the info and content, you still had to apply it all.

So without that, nothing else matters.

I'm willing to bet that the single biggest reason most people don't
get the results they want... is they spend too much time and money
      LEARNING stuff...

      Instead of applying stuff.

As I tell most people on this board who contact me, wondering
what they should sell or what they should do...

There's probably a very good chance that what you know, right now,
is more than enough to make a really good living online.

But for some reason, it doesn't get ACTED on...

Whether it's fear of the unknown, fear in general of failing or
      losing money, who knows.

But if you simply followed ONE proven plan and acted on it,
you have a very good chance of seeing results.

Too many people are stuck in the "Ready, Aim" mode...

When the secret, often times, is to "fire."
