Best way to direct blog visitors to your sales page?

My first clickbank product has been accepted and I've started a blog that has (I think) pretty valuable information in my niche. At the moment I just have a couple of links pointing to my sales page.

1) What is the best way to promote the sales page. How subtle should it be and should I avoid massive banners at the top of the page for example?

2) In my articles, should I plug my product frequently or just occasionally? In the start, middle or end of the article?

3) My goal at first was to create a blog/homepage that didn't look like I was trying to sell something off the bat, but at the moment nobody is clicking through to my sales page. How important is the initial impression in terms of generating sales. I.E. if it looks like it is selling something will people be more likely to buy or more likely to run away?

My site is Never Fly Economy if you want to see for yourself.

Any advice (including strong criticism) is greatly appreciate as always.

Thanks

    1. you have a nice wide sidebar....use it to capture email addresses - just put up a simple e-course with a few tips. (day one say what you r giving, day 2, 3, 4, give it, day 5 offer and summary.)

it will give you a chance to work with the visitor - and plug your offer in the sig file of every email - and in the body of the last email.

(and a few days later you just "check in" to see if they got it)

    2. just below the op-in, you put a graphic (ebook cover), and a short description of the offer.

    3. use the "post footer plugin" - and add a one-line version of your offer below every post.

4 OR you could use the "maxblogpress unblockable popup" plugin - and show the offer in there. - highly configurable.

    i would do 1, 2 and 3.

Great advice here, thanks very much!

I've installed the post footer plugin. Is there a way to track how many people click on the url here vs click elsewhere on my site? I use google analytics, but as the same link is at the top of every page and the bottom of every post, I'm not sure if it can differentiate where people have clicked to go to my sales page.

Also, I now have a picture of my ebook cover, how can I go about adding this above the "About" section in the sidebar?

I'm starting writing a free report that I'll give out via email as well

Thanks again for your pointers, they really helped me out.

My opinion -- you're being WAAAYYY too subtle, I don't think anyone even sees your link to your "ebook offer" -- and if they did, there's nothing to entice them into clicking on the link. The site is excellent, but the link is virtually hidden -- I was busy reading bits and pieces of very good content, and never bothered to look way up at the top. Am guessing no one else has noticed it, too. Move it to a more prominent place, and promote it some. Tell me what it is and why I want it. You know -- tell me What's In It For Me?

As far as your optin form goes, one of the best ways to do this is to have a free offer (as grumpyjacksa suggested) and work it into your posts, write the posts so that somewhere in the middle you naturally lead into your free offer, so that your optin form is IN the article, then continue on with the article. You can also use this to push your ebook and very targeted affiliate products, plus you're building your list. It works very well. If you wrote all the content onn the site yourself, you're a good writer, and it will be easy for you to do this. And put a free offer and optin form on the sidebar, too.

Overall it's an excellent site -- tweak it some and test the tweaks, it's amazing sometimes how a simple little change can explode your click throughs and optins.

Geeeeeee I'd go against the trend....forget what people say about posting ads 1/2 way down the page....become cunning as a fox....and sell sell sell...hype to the max....and get to your customers as fast as you can......ask yourself this question,...do you want to make money...........or build a free blog for everyone to read?
People already know the trick....of trying to appear as if your not selling till they read down the page a ways.....I say.........toss it to the wind.........tell them right off the bat..hey I have the most unbelieve-able product that will change your life forever.
And...mow them over !! SHOCK them and make sales !!
