5 Things I Did to Be Featured on a Billionaire's Blog

Hi Guys.

I was featured on Richard Branson's Virgin blog a while back. He is kinda iconic, as we know.

I want to share what I did to land a spot on his site and also on sites like Forbes, Fox News and Entrepreneur so you can lay the foundation for gaining more exposure on top sites, and for aligning for brand with these world renowned brands.

I'm also sharing because many bloggers are lost in this area, doing things that guarantee they'd never sniff features on top level sites.

Note; these tips are simple to follow but highly uncomfortable to follow at times, because if you're like how I used to be, you will be afraid you're not getting a return on investment or payback from your actions quickly enough. Welcome to the world of aligning with famous people....or, to become world famous yourself.

1: Double Down on Energy Work

Every practical marketing or blogging tip you follow is backed with energy. Some desperate Warriors cannot get any exposure because they work from fear. Some Warriors really good at parting folks from their money cannot get any exposure on top sites because world renowned brands would never align with spammy/scammy fear-based tacticians; yep, you can make loads of dough but if fear drives you, you cannot align with top brands.

I do 1 hour of deep yin yoga daily. I also exercise for 1 hour daily. Consider doing a bit of each, and/or meditating, EFT tapping, or another technique for doing energy work. Stop charging your work with fear. Begin working from an energy of harmony, love, fun and non-resistance.

2: Practice Writing

I wrote millions of words during my online career. Doing so gave me clarity and confidence in my writing, which helped me pop up on the radar screen of the other RB's staff.

Few bloggers and marketers practice writing; they only write when publishing posts or emailing their lists, not putting in enough time and energy to get clear.

Open a Word document. Write your butt off. Trash the doc. Detach. Become a skilled writer.

3: Publish Helpful Content to Your Blog

I published helpful content to my blog for years before landing my Virgin feature. Your well-stocked, branded Wordpress dot org blog helps you stand out.

A quick visit to Blogging From Paradise caught the Virgin contributor's eye; he followed up with me on Twitter, nabbed my quote and I was featured.

Remove all doubts about blogging; it works. Incredibly well. No better way to shine brightly enough for world famous brands.

4: Be Social on Social

Top brands need to trust you before putting their reputation on the line. Seeing engaging, helpful entrepreneurs active on social boosts your trust factor.

I engaged the Virgin contributor through DM's and @replies. This user put me on many of his Twitter lists before and after the feature.

Chat with folks on Facebook, Twitter and G Plus. Share their content. Help them. Less links, more chats.

5: Be Generous with Top Entrepreneurs in Your Niche

I helped many top bloggers in my niche by commenting on their blogs, by promoting them on my blog and by promoting them on social media. I was generous, and asked for nothing in return, for many months, then, for years.

I befriended many well known entrepreneurs. Maybe not world famous folks, but as these pros promoted me, endorsed me, and featured me on respected sites, I popped up on the radar screen of iconic sites.

You usually land on world famous sites after appearing again and again on less famous but respected sites in your niche. I was mentioned on Neil Patel's blog a few times, on John Chow's blog, on Smart Blogger and also a handful of other blogging or marketing blogs, in addition to many well known travel blogs, and this set the table for the top shelf features I was blessed with.

Help big dawgs in your niche. Ask for nothing in return. Stand out from masses of desperate or greedy entrepreneurs. Build the foundation for features on top sites.

Bonus Tip

It felt cool to get more attention through world renowned features, but I saw the Virgin mention as a way to help more folks versus than to get more traffic, money and exposure. I enjoyed the benefits of the alignment with world famous RB but mainly saw receiving this platform as a fab way to inspire a large group of targeted folks.

Taking this attitude helps you land more features on top blogs and lesser known blogs too.

It was a guest blog post including 9 other people from one of 864 bloggers that aren't Richard Branson.

This is a guest blog and may not represent the views of Virgin.com.

        Yes I'm featured.

        Are you featured?

I posted a fact. It looks like you're trolling?

Virgin.com has 864 guest bloggers. My point was there's 864 chances of getting someone to blog about something/anything related to the site.

Where are you featured? Are you one of those 864 guest bloggers ? Can you please post the link?

          Now...
You see claiming that just because you write a FACT - you are not trolling.

          Really? ....
          Let's see...

A newbie can ask a pretty easy a question: I have 2 options. I help or I answer...

Well that is a pretty newbie question , it showcases you are a NEWBIE.!!!

Just because is a FACT it doesn't mean I'm not trolling.

            Sorry dude,

Read the OP. There is no link to the actual blog post. Read the way Ryan described it.

He was featured on "Richard Branson's Virgin Blog". Not, "in a blog post by a contributor writing for Virgin.com".

Don't forget that Branson is "kinda iconic, I know." Not the random blogger, but Richard Branson.

"Welcome to the world of aligning with famous people"...

He then talks about his alignment with world famous RB. Hint, RB doesn't stand for Random Blogger. He's sayin he aligned himself with Richard Branson.

The tips he gave may have been perfectly helpful, but Biddulph was clearly trying to insinuate that he had been featured by Richard Branson and aligned himself with Richard Branson, which is patently untrue. Also, the use of the word 'featured' in and of itself is very, very loose here.

If I get mentioned in a blog post on MSN.com, it doesn't mean I've been featured by and aligned my personal brand with Bill Gates.

The tone of the OP was intentionally and misleadingly self-aggrandizing in order to attempt to build personal brand cache. Standard IM b.s.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Yukon pointing out the truth. It's interesting to see you, as a forum employee, be more concerned with Yukon correcting the record than with the OP intentionally trying to massively overplay the ties between a blog post on Virgin.com with Richard Branson himself.

            Again, standard IM BS.

Ryan's tips post would've been perfectly cromulent without trying to sell himself as some sort of Branson-buddy. His reasons for including all of that are obvious. So why shouldn't Yukon call out the reality?

Is it really necessary to quote the entire article to comment on it? This is poor forum etiquette and a total waste of bandwidth. lol

    Awesome man...the lessons here are:

    1. Find your strength in terms of "voice" reaching your market - for some people it is writing, for others it will be a podcast and still others it may be video...go with what you enjoy and what you are good at (measured by interest and response not by what YOU think you are good at)

    2. Work hard - 10x harder than you think you will have to work...hard work with faith that in the months to follow, good things will happen. Most people work for a few days or a few weeks (max) and then give up...the reality is that I often see the results happen 2-3 months AFTER the massive effort put in.

    3. Build a real business based on offering real value - the challenge with offering short-term biz opps is that you will not get the really big momentum Ryan is talking about...you will not get syndicated, you will not hit the mainstream and you will not be respected by your peers

    4. Put your purpose and mission before making money...deliver value and the attention and money will come - period!

Man what an awesome post. I've read quite a few of your comments and posts on here and I absolutely love your philosophy and couldn't agree more with you on this topic!

When we relax into our bodies and allow our inner voice to be heard, that's when we become aware of our true heartfelt desires and become filled with an unstoppable motivation.

This state though is definitely something that takes effort to access especially when you're trying to keep up with tasks and goals.

This is actually a very important issue IMO.

I could sneak into the background shot of a CNN live report and wave and then put a big "As seen on CNN" image on my website and there would be plenty of people in the IM world who would look at that and go "well, it's technically true!"

That doesn't mean it isn't a scummy practice though.
