Where do you buy .co.uk domains?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking about registering my first .co.uk domain, but I am not sure who is the best/recommended.

So the question is where should I register a .co.uk and what is the estimated costs?

I already have a hosting account, just need to buy the name. Any suggestions where?

    I've personally used 123reg.co.uk for a number of years without issue - although their email isn't the best (but for domains it's okay).

    I would HIGHLY suggest namecheap, one of the best registrars by far! trust me, you can't go wong with them...

    .co.uk are $8.88 per year, with a minimum of 2 yrs, to get the 8.88 price, enter the code GETMECHEAPER during checkout.

    WOW, thanks for the quick reply.

    I went to the 123reg.co.uk site and it seems to cost 2.99 pounds for a .co.uk domain.

    2.99 pounds is cheaper than $8.88 - is there a catch?

    I think name.com is a good place to buy domains. And they deal with .co.uk as well.

    Pay the extra and go with namecheap, i've used every domain registrar there is and namecheap are by far the best.

    But, saying that...if you want to save some dosh, go with the cheapest i guess...but you get what you pay for...bear that in mind.

    The above is just a bit of friendly advice, and goes via years of experience!

    OH YEAH! Forgot about those little extras aswell...free whoisguard protection AND a FREE SSL certificate!

    Another thing to bear in mind is read the smallprint of these registrars..what if you want to transfer the domain to someone? Fee's, complications...You want a simple transfer process that won't give you grey hairs...

    Namecheap transfers is a two step process, enter password, enter username to transfer to..DONE...

      I am unsure about the $8.88 as I just went to the namecheap.com site and it already says a price of $8.88

      If I use the code GETMECHEAPER then will I get the price of $8.88 for 2 years?

      That's pretty standard (123reg offer the same) - any registrar should let you transfer your domain to another user of the same registar free of charge. The fees will kick in when you start wanting to transfer between registrars - but again, this will depend on your registar and their terms.

    For .coms I use namecheap.

      This is my exact solution.

      The one and one servers live in the UK. For some reason this seems to make a difference when the website is for a UK audience.

      All other domains are on namecheap

      O ok, thanks for the advice. You have definitely given me some good advice, especially considering its from your personal experiences.

      The problem is I want to buy about 2 or 3 and that extra cash will add up. So I guess I have to make a decision - buy quality or buy cheap?

      Well here is my situation: I am going to buy the domain and then update the server to my server and then in about 2 days time update the server one last time and then leave the domain. After that all I will have to do is pay year after year. So in your opinion do I really need namecheap to do this sufficiently?

      PS: I do not plan to sell or transfer the 2 or 3 domains I am going to purchase - only use them myself. :confused:

    here's my pennies worth (for what it's worth)

    Don't stint on your registrar especially when you're only talking a couple of quid. You just may live to regret it.

    Namecheap is my choice as well

    i use: Heartinternet.co.uk

    For all my uk domain names

    they are very good and even do free uk transfers if you have the domain somewhere else. The worst two though are fasthosts and 123reg who are very unreliable and its very hard to transfer away from them later on.
