Completely agree with you Dhoni, welcome to the forum

IM lets us focus on the things that are important to us, help others and brings a sense of fulfilment that I can't imagine having if I did anything else.

You can develop a lot of skills and good work habits. You can add these skill to a resume should you wish to get back into the job market.

You can take pride in your successes and learn from your failures.

You can teach others and take pleasure in their successes.

You can introduce younger folks into the world of online capitalism and inspire entrepreneurship.

It all depends on what you want to get out of Internet marketing. The pendulum swings both ways!

Some people like new associations and personal development . . . other like to hide behind the anonymity and "facelessness" of the Internet because they don't want personal associations, new friends, or having to talk to people and build relationships.

I think you make of it what you will.

  • tbh I'm only in it so I can pass on dividends to distressed dolphins.

Infinite cash for heels is merely a distraction.

Point is, IM stuffs are a way to tap your talents that kinda offers an alternative to sellin' cheese in a cheese store.

Plenty people fired up to go sell cheese -- but if that ain't you, then what you got?

More important, who needs what you got?

If it helps, ima currently workin' on a luxury musical shoewear range specifically targettin' the aquatic theme park community.

    rn my heart says WINNA.

    Hi Dhoni,
Agree with you totally. You have to have the desire to help first (along with at least a bit of entrepreneur in you). From there, you figure out what people want help with, and give them the solution.

If you have no desire to help others, you've missed step one.

Even people in trade professions know this.

They become a hairdresser because they want to help people look good.
They become a chef because they want to serve and help people to eat wonderful food.
They become an accountant because they want to help other people get their finances in order.
They become a teacher because they want to help students through giving them all-important knowledge...

They see a need they can fill with a passion they are skilled at, and help make others' lives better as a result. Being in IM really isn't (nor should it be) any different.

A lot of people go into it asking first, "How can I make money?" Instead of "What talents, knowledge, experience do I have, than can serve others?"

  • I personally believe it is essential you don't just go into IM to make cash.

Don't get me wrong, of course making money has to be an outcome, BUT the important thing is to focus on a WIN - WIN relationship; receiving income for providing REAL value to people.

It applies in any sort of marketing efforts; online or offline.

This way you can sleep at night, you create positive relationships AND you earn from your efforts.

    Exactly Dhoni.

Plus, when you focus on IM to have fun, to learn and practice skills, and to help people, the money flows in with greater ease over time. Give little attention to dough, and a bunch of attention to making a difference. You have fun, enjoy the ride and creating lasting success, including making a tidy profit.

Well...business and marketing in general is about getting attention, serving markets and making a profit doing so. In that sense, you MUST go where your audience goes...and increasingly that is online and more specifically, online via mobile devices to connect, consume content and buy things.

Internet marketing is nothing more than adapting marketing to reach the attention of your audience who's tastes evolve quickly (5-years ago 90% of my home's content consumption was on TV, today 95% is via OTT apps (Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Insta, Podcasts) - same trend emerging in terms of buying behavior (hell I can't even find half of what I want today in physical stores...not even that option anymore)

So, internet marketing is (more than ever) becoming the ONLY option to reach your market to learn, serve, connect and make money.

Serving is something I think a lot of people overlook, and mistakenly think that attention = profit.

To me, it's not really about the money, but rather what the money can do for you.

It's also about freedom. Time freedom, and the freedom to do what you love.

Everyone is wired differently. That's my 2 cents.

It all depends on your intentions. Yes you have to give value. Yes you can create new associations. Yes you can experience loving relationships (as I have met some awesome people online).

But in the end, the people who focus on the skills that you need like:

    1- Traffic

    2- Lead Generation

    3- Email Marketing

    4- Customer Service

    5- Following Up

    6- Closing (if need be)

Are the people who end up making most of the money.

90 something end up failing because most are spending most of their time doing things outside of these 6 things listed above.

It's not only about generating money but you also have an opportunity to network with like minded Internet Marketers who will be happy to share with you new effective Internet Marketing Strategies. At the end of the day, it all comes down to making new connections and brain storming new strategies with fellow Internet Marketers.

I completely agree with you. We can make good friends too in Internet Marketing why only focus on earning money
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11417789].message }}
  • Agree! Since the IM industry is very fast-paced and requires continuous learning, it also allows us to grow and develop our skills in the niches that we choose to do. Then everything follows like networking. I have known a lot of good people through this industry and some became one of my closest friends.

I studied the people who made fortunes in business long before I came along...think J.D. Rockefeller.

Not one, I repeat, not one gave a flying **** about their clientele beyond their ability to pay.

If you want to "serve" people then go to the local soup kitchen. They will be grateful for the extra hands.

I personally would rather be rich than thought of as a "servant."

I guess it depends on your priorities.

    Sorry, I disagree.

It's totally to make money. The growing relationships is a by-product of that, IMO at least.
